Perfect way to spend our wedding anniversary

Reviewed By Diamonds2

I searched for a secluded getaway in the Bay of Islands, and that is what we found for our wedding anniversary weekend getaway. Even before arrival, Glennis made every effort to exceed our expectations. We were able to check in a bit early due to having lunch booked across in Russell. On arrival we were greeted by our lovely hostess. Unbeknownst to me, hubby had asked for specific flowers to be in the room, they were a lovely surprise. The room was a delight, there are 4 rooms with decks that look out over native bush to the sea beyond. The sound of birdsong on the deck was lovely. The breakfasts prepared by Glennis were amazing, with a selection of cut-up fresh fruits, nuts, grains, juices, tea, and coffee. On our second morning, we had cooked breakfast which was equally delicious. On our actual anniversary, Glennis cooked us a beautiful 3-course meal, one of the best meals we have had. We had lovely massages as well. Glennis was the best hostess, on hand to chat to us, but did not impose on our time either. We will be making this a regular stay-away venue.

New Zealand's northernmost motel, Pukenui Lodge is set amongst beautiful semi-tropical gardens with spectacular views over the picturesque Houhora Harbour. Secluded and private, our Northland motel accommodation is the perfect place to escape and unwind. Just up the harbour from Houhora Heads, Pukenui is a small fishing village which has views stretching up and down the scenic harbour. Located one hour from Cape Reinga, the northernmost tip of New Zealand, and only a 15 minute drive to Ninety Mile Beach, Pukenui is a truly breathtaking spot. With such captivating surroundings there is a wealth of activities with which to amuse yourself while staying at Pukenui Lodge Motel. Visit Cape Reinga and Ninety Mile Beach available, or you can try your hand at sand boarding the giant Te Paki sand dunes, hiking, kayaking, horse treks, and quad biking. Otherwise you can simply relax and visit one of the five fabulous beaches nearby.

A great stop-over

Stayed first in February when we incorporated it into a Cape Reinga trip and was sufficiently impressed to repeat the trip this week. Well sited just above wharf, opposite shop(s) and restaurant, the property also appears to go right to the cliff edge, offering great views over and down the harbour. Basic but comfortable unit with a nice feeling and everything we needed at what I regard as a very reasonable price. Helpful staff.

This place is amazing. Inga has gone out of her way to ensure it is home away from home. We stayed in the Fishmore yellow cottage and it was amazing. Fully equipped kitchen, with really nice stuff. Insect screens on the windows. Beautiful bathroom. Two TVs. BBQ. Full sized fridge with freezer. Deck with outdoor furniture to sit and eat your breakfast on or have a drink in the afternoon. Gorgeous salinated pool which is perfect temperature. Feed the pigs and play with the dogs. Enjoy your complimentary citrus. Inga and Klaus were so welcoming and friendly. Free washing machine. This place could not be better and we have already recommended it to our friends. It was by far the best kitted out and value for money place we stayed in on our 20 day tour of the north island. Thanks so much Inga and family!

Very Lucky Find

Reviewed By 219brucec

We were looking for a night’s accommodation in Opononi and were lucky enough to book a night at this amazing lodge just 10 minutes from town. Tucked away up a short stretch of gravel road this two bedroomed lodge sits looking out over the bush covered hills. We were greeted by Candy, the owner and given an amazing introduction to the house and even got taken on the short walk so she could show us where glow worms could be seen at night. The house itself was really comfortable and sitting on the deck listening to the birds was so peaceful. Everything we needed for a continental breakfast (including freshly picked strawberries from their garden) was left in the kitchen for us and fresh vegetables were also offered if we’d wanted to cook dinner. The Hokianga is a beautiful part of the country and there’s so much to do in the area. We took up Candy’s suggestion of going to Manea - Footprints of Kupe, the recently opened interactive cultural experience in Opononi and we would recommend it as highly as we would a stay at Waiotemarama Falls Lodge.

Stunning views and beautiful doggie ?

Reviewed By Dolma22

My partner booked us a two night stay at cliff edge, by which it was a surprise, i had no idea where we were staying prior to leaving so you could imagine my surprise when we pulled up to Cliff Edge by the sea. Firstly we must apologise to Peter the wonderful host, we were quite late in leaving Auckland and he kindly waited up for us to arrive. When we did arrive i was so impressed by the amazing shared space, the beautiful communal areas has gorgeous curated pieces from both east meets west elements, but still had all the quirks that you would find in a “kiwi bach” such as frames maps of the area, and local books of the Bay of Islands. Peter kindly showed us that we were welcomed in those areas and to also help ourselves to the tea and coffee section in his impressive kitchen area. Peter then showed us to our room, we stayed in the Okiato room, which was massive! And very neatly presented with stunning ocean views. Peter then asked us what time we would like breakfast and little did we both know that Peter is an acclaimed chef! The breakfast was beautiful there was delicious ham off the bone served with heirloom tomatoes, a cheese board, a divine fruit loaf (which Luke forgot to ask Peter where it was from or if he had made it himself) and a selection of muesli served with fruit compote, selection of fruits and natural yoghurt. Peter waited on us and made sure to ask us if we would like more toast etc, lets just say we did not need lunch after this! One thing we are guttered we did not do but would do next time is include the dinner as to have dinner cooked by a legendary chef would be one off the bucket list being a huge foodie myself! A huge plus for me was also meeting Peter’s beloved king charles spaniel Charlie, having her greet you in the mornings and being such a sweet and well behaved pup i wish i could have taken her home! We did not get a chance to see Peter before we left, but we would like to extend our thank you for his hospitality. His property really is one of the most stunning properties i have ever stayed in and being a former flight attendant i have stayed in many hotels! We would love to come back next time

I had a lovely stay with Paul and Katalina over the long weekend. They were incredibly kind and went out of their way to ensure I was warm, comfortable and well fed. I was really blown away by their generosity! I stayed in George the caravan, which was very well set up with everything you could need for cooking, a surprisingly big bathroom and a comfortable bed. Both Paula and Katalina spent time giving me recommendations of things to do in the area and I only wish I’d had longer to see it all. I would highly recommend Karikari Lodge as a great place to stay for a short or extended period. You’ll be welcomed like one of their whanau!
