Awful service and misleading description

Our room was modern and we had not been informed it was in an annex. We could hear our fellow guests very noisy, we could not eat in the restaurant in the hotel although we were staying there and there was room if we had not "booked". There was no parking and we spent a long time looking for parking. We could not get a massage as the wellness spa had one masseur and he was booked. Nothing was good about our stay in this hotel.

Like the title says, not great, and not bad. Lots of space in our room. The breakfast was good, but not outstanding. Not a super-friendly staff, but okay. Parking was okay. On a Sunday evening, nothing is going on in the town (not the hotel’s fault).

Hotel Moseltor

You'll find a hotel on the outskirts at TRARBACH. The exterior of this four-story rectangular building, dating from 1838, is a masterpiece of fieldstone masonry from another era. Inside, a charming combination of new construction with antique elements from the original building creates a warm mixture of comfort and convenience. The Bauer family runs the hotel, and the light cuisine is prepared by Chef Ruth Bauer, whose reputation has spread to such a degree that German urbanites come here for a 'gastronomic weekend'. The Restaurant 'BAUER'S' is small only 11 tables The hotel located aprox. 70 Km from the famous racing course 'nurburgring'

The appartment we stayed in is old and needs a could clean

Paid 555 euro for 3 nights for 3 people breakfast included. That's 62 euros per person or 123 euros for a couple. A hotel that was nicer, only a few meters further, had double rooms for 70 euros (same furniture as this one) and 90 euros (renovated modern room) breakfast included, so this hotel is really expensive. The appartment needed a good clean, it was not cleaned thoroughly. The kitchen and bathroom date from the seventies. The button to put on the fridge is broken off, You hurt Your fingers if You want to put on the fridge. The light near the sink/mirror in the bathroom didn't work, only light on the ceiling. To use the mirror it was to dark in the bathroom. The shower heads from the shower and bath were so calcified the water sprayed around but nearly down, if You took a shower You hardly felt water on You. There was a lot of tableware, pots and pans and devices in the kitchen but no dish cloth or kitchen towels. If You wanted to wash for instance glasses or tableware You had to use Your hands to wash and kitchen paper to dry. You could not clean something Yourself because there were nog cloths available. The oven didn't work. The bedrooms had carpet on the floor with strange lumps under it??? Strange uneven surface to walk on. The breakfast was the same everyday except on Monday: no fruit on Monday. On Saturday and Sunday we got strawberries and canned peaches. Breakfast was ok but not outstanding. Owners are not so hospitable and welcoming. We felt we paid way to much here, a bit of a rip-off.

Checked out after being yelled at by management/owner

Reviewed By Aaron Q

This looked like a nice place to stay in Traben-Trabach, especially after my prior booking in the area found me at a small hotel where, despite having a reservation, no one seemed to ever appear at the front desk. This pension seemed to have staff busy with family activities when I arrived, but the lady who checked me in and showed me to my room was nice. This was around 7 pm or a bit after. I needed dinner so I went into town, walked around, ate at a kebap shop, and came back a bit before 10 pm, after which I looked to get settled and and plan my next days' adventure on the Mossel (or the Rhein, I wasn't sure, yet). I needed the internet to book a cruise. Problem being, none of my check-in materials had any wifi log-on information. I looked around my room, but nothing. I went out in the hall--nothing. Front desk area had nothing posted. Some guests came in and I asked them and they said I had to get a passcode number from the management. But no one was at the front desk anymore. Lights were on upstairs and I could hear people with children when I came in, but when I asked the guests in the hall how to locate the management to get the code they said they didn't know. They said something about the woman who worked there and I suggested I might call the number for the pension and the guests said "I don't know, it's late." Well, to me it wasn't all that late...it still wasn't 10 pm yet, and there was a publicly-listed number to call on the booking website I booked through. And I needed wifi to make reservations. Alas, I called the number and an older-sounding man answered the phone. I explained as best I could in fractured German my name, room number, and that I was trying to get a passcode for wifi which I had no been given on check in. I thought I had the wrong number when the man fussed in German and said he was in the bed. I apologized and said I must have the wrong number, that I was trying to call Pension Bartz. He informed me I did not have the wrong number but that it was late and he was in the bed. This he yelled at me. I apologized, again, sincerely, and said I was sorry that I was just trying to connect to the internet and needed the number. He hung up on me. I walked out, called the booking agency and made sure I was not going to be charged for my stay. I wasn't. Apologies for upsetting someone reclining for the evening. But I had checked in less than 3 hours prior and hadn't unpacked yet...had immediately left to go find food after a long journey. In the time it took him to yell at me, he could have given me the passcode. In the time it took him to deal with the booking company that had to get a translator to call him an hour later, when he was definitely in the bed, he probably wished he had. That said, the room looked very nice, though the location is a bit away (a drive) from the scenic part of the town. It might have been an enjoyable stay if I had been given wifi information upon check-in or, otherwise, if it was provided en-suite as it is in many places of accommodation.

Great hotel, with some adjustments

Reviewed By JRgvl

We had two wonderful nights in this hotel with its beautiful location right on the Mosel river. Our (upgraded) room was great with two floors and two beds and also two bathrooms. The room is very neat, clean and tidy. A pity and actually not quite up-to-date is the lack of an air conditioner. We had a very hot room. There is a separate fan, but it is not sufficient enough. Not everything went smoothly with our reservation because we had to send an email three times after we booked with a question about the rental bikes. We got no response three times until we emailed management directly. Only then did we get a reply. Sad and sloppy. We ate at the hotel restaurant once as there are almost no restaurants open in the area on Mondays and Tuesdays. The menu was small but fine. We liked it very much but found it very expensive for what it was. A simple schnitzel for €28.- is really not right and way above average. And I am not talking about the quantity but quality. It’s nothing fancy or special but the prices are. Breakfast is fine although it can be quite busy at the buffet. The setup is not very convenient. Very nice for a pre-dinner drink or simple lunch is the beer garden with a beautiful view over the Mosel. We certainly have to give a big compliment to the lady behind the bar in the separate bar that belongs to the hotel. What a nice professional! She knows how to make the most beautiful and tasty cocktails and she knows how it should be done! An absolute asset to the hotel! In addition to the lack of the air conditioner, we still have a few points for improvement. There is a good coffee machine in the room, but only 2 cups are included. This is very scanty and measured and not very welcoming. It is also very annoying that the shower does not stay hot. This is regularly cold and then warm again and we only used 1 bathroom! And again…. the restaurant prices are not in proportion to what is offered. In the village you can eat much better for less money. We drive to Die Greifen. Awesome! In short, a great hotel with nice facilities and highly recommended. The critical points are easy to solve!

This hotel is truly a special find! It combines the quality experience of a family run German small hotel with hip ambiance and stylish comfort. Check in was very friendly and welcoming. The rooms are large, super clean, and feel brand new. There is a fabulous roof garden with nice views over the little town. The complementary breakfast is lovely and made me want to move back to Germany :)

Friends of ours had stayed here over the years. Traban Trarbach is a lovely small town on both sides of the Mosel joined by a bridge. It is very close to Hahn Airport with convenient flights to Dublin. We first came here in 2007 and stayed with Iris at the Central Hotel on our friends' recommendation. This year we arrived into Traban Trarbach on foot over the hills from Bernkastel - Kues while walking along the trails following the Mosel. We had no pre-booking and while crossing the bridge we thought of possible places to stay. Then we saw the sign to the Central Hotel and there was no contest. We marched straight in and Iris and her husband were manning reception. We were lucky and got the last room. It had a top floor river view out of a Velux window and everything was fine. Breakfast has an excellent choice of items including the ubiquitous boiled egg served by granny as in previous visits. We spent two nights here and moved on as the local wine festival was starting and they were fully booked. All in all another great stay here and thoroughly recommended.

After reading good reviews of this hotel we were left disappointed when we found the room had no tea or coffee making facility. The Wi-Fi and TV channels were poor. The bed was comfortable but there was only one very soft pillow each and the thin curtains let in the light. The breakfast options were sparse and there was no toaster. The staff were all very friendly and there was good parking.
