10 hotels in Tobago: Best hotel deals for 2023

August 5, 2022 Harland Bartelt

The smaller half of Trinidad and Tobago, the 116-square mile island is a top eco-tourism destination. Its rainforest has been protected since 1776. Kayak through mangrove swamps, mountain bike testing trails in the island's northeast, drift dive with manta rays and sharks, hike the Rainforest Reserve or take in the distinctive Tobago pursuits of goat and crab racing. Cars, taxis and "maxi taxi" minibuses make it easy to get around the island. Carnival sees this exuberant island at its most extroverted.

Really REALLY Disappointed

Blue waters review Given the multiple reviews I’ve gotten through both word of mouth/online… I thought staying away from the regular hustle and bustle of the “town/city” area would be well worth distance… unfortunately… this was FAR FROM the reality… After what was supposed to be a stay of “mental self care” … turned into feeling as though I was being conned, I stayed in room 17… the room was NOT properly cleaned (there was a used panty liner I discovered under the chair cushion along with other trash, the bins were not emptied, the room had NO towels and even up to day 3 of my stay WIFI never worked! The food was mediocre AT BEST…. Same goes for the drinks?… Whilst admittedly the staff there are very kind and pleasant, the most that was offered when I complained at the front desk was “I would have to look into that.” Somehow… what I paid for and what I received in exchange SEVERELY lacked! Would definitely never ever return or recommend anyone here..

Great Staff

Reviewed By Yorkflyer

On first arrival we were a little underwhelmed as the hotel needs a lot of TLC. However the longer we stayed the more relaxed we became which was mainly due to the excellent service and friendliness of the staff. Particular mention must go to Pamela, Cecilia, Adanna (pool bar), and Marvin. On the debit side the housekeeping staff need better training/management as we were constantly left without towels/tissues/tea bags and toilet rolls. It’s not difficult to put right. It would also appear that Tuna is the only fish available in the Caribbean as it was constantly the “Catch of the Day” and also a feature at breakfast. Would we recommend? Yes if you can put up with the minor niggles. Tip: Book a suite or ask for an upgrade, the extra space is worth the money.

A great value, friendly hotel

We stayed here for a week on a British Airways All Inclusive holiday package. We had a lovely relaxing time and would not hesitate recommending the hotel. The grounds are beautifully kept, the pools were very clean, there were plenty of sun beds around the 2 pools. Our room was a standard room with a garden view, maybe a little dated, but again very clean and the bed was very comfortable. The bar area was very nice with a lovely outdoor seating area that overlooked the sea. The barmen (Robbie and Tenis) were very courteous and worked very hard and we were always served quickly. Lunches were served in the bar area and had a good choice of burgers, chicken, salad etc. Breakfast and lunch were served in the pleasant restaurant, there wasn’t the huge choice of dishes that you may have in a large All Inclusive hotel, but the food was always tasty and plentiful. The waiting staff were very attentive. We did turtle watching (which was incredible, we saw a turtle laying her eggs)!and the Cool Runnings boat trip from the hotel. Both were excellent value 150 TT per person. There is a small beach with 3 cabanas accessible from the hotel, but it’s not advisable to swim there due to the strong currents. Store bay beach is a 10 minute amble away where you can hire sun beds and swim. There is a life guard on the beach. All in all we had a great holiday and would definitely like to return one day

Reservations were booked and paid for in advance. On reaching the hotel we were informed that vaccination cards (or proof of) was required plus our toddler is to undergo a PCR Test. This information was not relayed to us prior to booking, not via email confirmations or phone calls, which were both engaged. If we were privy to this information we would not have booked simply to avoid subjecting our toddler to a PCR Test for a hotel stay. The manager at the time, Marita Huggins, took no responsibility for their lack of information prior to this. On requesting our full refund, we were told that the payment could not be found on their system. After making calls to the bank to confirm, the receptionist notified that they found our payment. No assistance was offered otherwise. Booking a new hotel at the last minute proved to be a challenge.

Is it Worth It?

As you drive through the landscaped and manicured grounds, enter the open, airy reception area, you are greeted by the pristine waters of the Caribbean Sea and it is evident that this property was once majestic. The location cannot be beat, you can walk from the airport. The private beach is stunning, calm, clear and there are many tropical fish to see near the rocks. This is the only thing that draws me here. The bones of the property are quite beautiful and the attention to detail is admired but it is past the point of having old Caribbean charm. It is so dated it feels like a museum and has a signature old musty smell. It is relatively clean but the age cannot be hidden especially in the bathrooms which are unpleasant. The room was poorly lit with a shaky bed, warped mattress and two worn out pillows. The ceilings on the second floor are very low compared to the ground floor rooms. The foul smell in the corridor by the shops need to be addressed. Hotel staff customer service is average, not at international standard. Tamara’s servers are unprofessional and appear irritated. Food was subpar. Sad to see what was a glorious hotel fall into disrepair. Not sure if I would spend another night there or if it’s worth the price. There’s an eerie feeling as there’s hardly any guests and you can see and feel the hotel withering away. Would be delighted to return if it was renovated.

Bacolet Beach Club

Breathtaking is an understatement for this luxurious Tobagonian hideaway. This exclusive resort is built on a stunning 4.5-acre beachfront property, dotted with lush coconut and almond groves. Nestled into the beautifully secluded Bacolet Bay, the suites offer stunning panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea and nearby Bacolet Bay. This delightful club is committed to providing guests with luxury and personal service. Its intimate size encourages a particularly warm and family-friendly atmosphere, which has been fostered by its owner’s years of travel experience strutting the international catwalks across Europe. The resort’s 50 ocean-front suites have been styled to reflect a cross-cultural aesthetic; Asian-inspired silk elements blend nicely with curlicued pieces and modernist fixtures in a chic manner. Throughout the rooms, the balance with nature is very evident. The airy interiors are filled with luxurious details, such as delicately beaded lamps and grand, silk-covered chaise.

Describes itself a beach club but beach was unusable due to masses of seaweed, and beach bar was closed. Hidden Gem

We visited Buccoo March, 2020 and vowed that someday we would be back. We were specifically interested in Miller’s Guest House because of the location and we are not disappointed. We stayed in unit#8 overlooking the warf. The apartment is spacious and has all that you would need for your stay. We could see upgrades being done in all of the rooms, and if you enjoy basic, comfortable accommodations, this place is perfect. The WIFI worked fine, however when I was watching a movie and my husband was googling stuff, it was a bit slow. There was lots of music and activity on the pier when the fishermen would bring in their catch. If that tends to bother you, bring ear plugs to sleep. … which might come in handy when the resident rooster sounds his alarm very early in the morning. We bought groceries at nearby stands and mini-marts, however did enjoy our meals out. We were very impressed with Winston, his knowledge of Tobago and his roots in such a warm and friendly community. My husband enjoyed discussing world events with him and appreciated his conversant manner. We will definitely come back.
