Can only recommend

We stayed here at the end of July and had a fantastic stay. The room was excellent and comfortable; there was a large selection for breakfast, including the history of the family hotel from 1929; the staff were helpful, knowledgeable and really welcoming. It is also excellent value for money in the summer: the price included the use of the local public transport, the mountain lifts and bike hire (one mountain lift alone was c. €30 per person so we saved a lot). I can only recommend this place and hope to be coming back soon!

Mixed feelings!

Reviewed By VickyB522

This was our 3rd year to try out a new hotel over the Christmas-New Year holidays and from the Trip Advisor reviews, we had high expectations. The hotel was rated no. 1 in the village, had many repeat customers and had many (and current) good reviews - all things I look for when I choose a hotel. I must say that overall the hotel was good, however having stayed in many 4 star Austrian hotels, offering Wellness treatments and the option to bring a dog along, we were in the end disappointed - we have come to expect certain "amenities" for 4 stars and this hotel was just "different" from what we thought it would be. Guests were 90% german(we could tell from the liscense plates on cars parked outside) which for us is no problem as we are anyway german speakers. Age of guests was on the average 65-75(we being end of 50`s) but also not a problem as we had GREAT table neighbors with lots of interesting and fun conversations. However if you don`t speak german I really don`t know if this age group would be able to converse in english. The hotel is family run, with the children and spouse doing reception and day-to-day hotel matters (we saw them often and they were friendly) while the parents chose to only be visible at the formal Christmas and New Year Dinners to welcome people. This was unusual for us as all other hotels we have stayed at had at least one family member circulating through the breakfast or dining rooms to talk to guests and make their presence known - we missed this contact. The food at all meals was excellent! Breakfast served(unusually) until 11 which for us latecomers meant that there were usually no scrambled eggs left and we had to wait or order more. Service staff was excellent - despite the fact that I thought they were understaffed and we always had to wait a long time to get our dinner drinks(often until after we had already eaten the salad bar course). However the service team were ALWAYS friendly and always on the go to get the orders out or dishes cleared away. Top marks here! Room: as we came with a dog we were only allowed into basically one of 2 room types, right above the garage(even tho we were allowed to walk with our dog throughout the hotel!). The room itself was VERY large with LOTS of storage space however....it was dark with dark wood and with the usual poorly lit lamps that alot of hotels offer, at night we had to turn on almost all the available lights in order to have some quantity of light in the room. Some rooms have been renovated, but not for dog owners. And the bathroom really let this room down!!! It was tiled in brown and beige tiles, had a glass shelf for storage(good) but right under the only towel rack so you could never hang your bath towel there as it would knock all of your things off. The double towel bar next to the sink was actually falling off of the wall and the faucet in the bath/shower was in definite need of replacement as it was a millimeter guessing game between cold and very hot water. The faucet at the sink looked brand new and worked great-too bad they didn`t follow though and replace the one in the tub. The tub did have a brand new glass shower wall mounted on it so that was nice. Housekeeping was a real disappointment!! Our room smelled a little bit musty from the beginning- maybe because it`s always a dog room but we`ve never had that problem in other Hotels, where they have managed to even clean the room and make it smell nice with an air freshener. There was no sign saying towels would only be washed if thrown in the tub, however towels were not changed out every day(we could tell as they were often left in the state in which we left them hanging) and used glasses, plates and water pitchers were also left on our coffee table, even though we gathered them together for easy clearing away. I had to take my own cake plate back to the restaurant area and drop it off there. A trash can that they had placed under a shelf area in the entry-which we used- was never emptied until many days later when we noticed and pulled it out for them to empty. A positive for the hotel was its public areas - the bar and lounge, both fresh, clean and bright and people were in there ALL the time either reading the huge selection of magazines they offer or playing a wide variety of cards and games, also sitting around for use. I was however disappointed that when I did sit there in the mornings and staff walked back and forth going from the kitchen to the dining room, no one ever stopped to ask if I wanted to order something to drink! This is very unusual! The hotel offered a very large and varied range of Wellness treatments, which is always half of the reason we pick such a hotel-this is our time to be pampered. I only did one treatment due to health reasons, but my husband did a massage every other day and was very happy with the facilities, staff and treatments themselves. The hotel itself is in a great location, a 10 minute walk up a street leading off the main drag. The view out the diningroom window over the village of Riezlern and the mountains is fabulous! For dog owners as well as hikers/walkers, the hotel was a 1 minute walk away from the beginning of several walking paths. The village of Riezlern itself has never been mentioned in other reviews and so I didn`t know what to expect - Well! It`s a GREAT village, with about a 1 mile long main "drag" full of shops, ski shops, restuarants, a few small hotels, grocery stores - a real village! A super bus system is in place, with bus No.1 running the length of the "drag" and all the way into Oberstdorf(walk the drag one way and take the bus back to the other end). We also took the No. 1 to the other end, to Baad, and then did a hike (panorama high route) back into Riezlern. The No. 2 bus stops, REALLY, right outside the door of the hotel and it, too, will take you down the hill and down to the far end of the drag(bus "depot" area) before it goes off into another direction for other hiking options. There are also buses 3,4,5 which also have special routes - but this is a fantastic system and the hotel gives you a free bus pass. This area of Kleinwalsertal is also SUPER!!! We came for walking with our dog and were NOT disappointed. What I really liked is that the hikes were not overly mountainous and steep - yes you had to go up, mainly on forest roads before coming to the paths, but then it was always some up and some down but nothing extreme. We made use of the gondola too to come down from one of our hikes - chair lifts also available. These options are not included in that bus pass. So as you can see we really had mixed feelings about our stay.

Piece and quiet, great time

Reviewed By ClaudiaRotterdam

Stayed here for 6 days in the Widderstein suite. Very, very comfortable. Great beds. Hotel is a few km's uphill from the town centre. Walking is possible, quite a steep climb, but can be done. Diners were all-inclusive. Most of the time quite nice, sometimes combinations were not to our tasting. Breakfast was nice, a lot of choices in different eggs, which was nice. Maybe some local cakes could be added to breakfast buffet as a treat ;-) The swimming pond is very, very nice. Took a swim everyday. Sunbeds could be arranged a bit more attractively. Staff were very kind and took care of any requests or questions directly. Region of Kleinwalsertal is beautiful. So, big recommendation from us for a lovely stay!

Sehr schöner Skiurlaub

Reviewed By ulrret

Quiet, friendly and just perfect for families

the apartment house right in the center of Riezerln is not top notch in relation to maximum comfort or very new furniture. But the apartments are huge, well equipped and very clean, you will probably get a huge balcony too. Best of all: the complimentary cable car ticket for all the mountain cableways plus various discounts and free bus rides. The owner cares in every aspect: daily roll service or breakfast, cleaning and tips for hikes are just some of the a amenities you can expect. The house is quietly located and views are inclusive.
