Fabulous 10/10 resort

Reviewed By Eagertraveller2019

Just returned from a week in Candia Village. I travelled with my husband & 2 teenage daughters . We booked 2 x 1 bedroom apartments across from each other. Firstly the apartments where fabulous. Fully stocked with everything you needed. Spacious modern bedrooms. Brand new luxurious bathrooms. And one of the best showers I’ve ever had during a holiday stay! Couldn’t get out of it! Beds were super. Big & comfy! And each apartment had a large balcony with lovely garden views. The resort itself has all you needed. Beach onsite was just gorgeous with plenty of Sun loungers but we tended to use the pool area more as there was more shade. No problem ever getting a sun lounger now no matter what time you got to the pool. We also ate in all 3 on-site restaurants. Breakfast in the main restaurant was buffet, plentiful & fresh. The Greek taverna on site was amazing. Traditional Greek fair & lovely staff. Pool bar was my favourite for frappes & snacks. Always greeted with a smile & good service Only 2 things I would change - it can be quite windy & the Sun loungers head area would flip & could catch little fingers. Or hit someone sitting on the sun lounger on the head . So these need to be changed or made stronger. The 2nd would be a warning my the grassy area by the pool. Plenty of sun loungers here & shade which would attract families. Lots of lovely little flowers too which attract bees & Wasps! I stood on one as I wasn’t wearing shoes & hurt for a few days as I’m allergic to the venom. It would be worth putting a sign up for guests to wear something underfoot in this area. Not really a complaint just a suggestion ?. This place is just fantastic. And I cannot wait to return

Minos Beach Art Hotel

Minos Beach art hotel has been influenced by the traditional architectural style of fishermen’s villages of Eastern Crete. One storey, whitewashed bungalows and villas with terraces and minimal interiors are almost touching the sea. The unique environs of the hotel with its sumptuous gardens and narrow stone paved streets host the 45 works of Greek and foreign artists. In the eastern part of Crete, only a ten-minute walk from the town centre of Agios Nikolaos and a 45-minute drive from the airport of Heraklion. Exquisite decoration features, minimalist forms and Feng-Shui elements enriched by the Greek aesthetics of cotton and wood, handcrafted details, candles and water syntheses, create unique spaces and corners, making your stay in Minos Beach unforgettable. For a truly VIP experience at Minos Beach, we offer one presidential villa and three executive villas with private swimming pools, as well as exclusive bungalows that are literary “caressing” the sea.

Made my experience of Crete even better.

Wonderful return trip to excellent resort. The grounds and views are breathtaking. Although the hotel is old, the rooms and grounds are well taken care of. It is actually environmentally conscious to only fix what is needed. I hope the renovations which are planned will maintain the understated luxury character of the hotel. The staff will go out of their way to make you comfortable and recognize and value you as a return guest.. From the bell staff on arrival, to the front desk, to the waiters at breakfast to the beach attendants. Special mention to Kostas from the concierge desk who really wants all his guests to have the best experience and Dora who works tirelessly to make sure all her guests have the room of their choice. Good very comfortable luxury collection bed and bedding, nice and plentiful bathroom amenities including hygiene wipes! Very generous with towels (even at the beach they never run out!) but will respect of you want to reuse. Two options for breakfast. We always used the buffet restaurant with endless options from meats to fish to cheeses and spreads, fresh fruits and vegetables and eggs made to order. Great selection of restaurants.. The only draw back is the good size gym, which has while functional but very old and somewhat limited equipment. Can't wait for our return trip.

Not a 5* hotel or Service

Reviewed By E1010WRryanh

You really only need to look at the responses to reviews from the management team to understand how this hotel is run and managed. Positives are an amazing location, and beautiful views. Beach and close enough to other towns that you can get a cab. Staff that are there are hard working and helpful. I'm not sure where to start on the hotel though. This is no longer a 5* hotel, the reviews, pictures are very misleading. The grounds and rooms are run down and don't appear to have been restored and cleaned since the re-opening (we stayed in a Superior Room, Sea View Balcony which by the looks of the Hotels responses we do not have enough money to stay at this hotel because we should of payed for a better one). So if you're not buying a Suite or something better you're not getting a good standard of room. View was amazing though. The food. The buffet was very disappointing and underwhelming, almost a first come first served style as if you turned up later than 8 for dinner it was slim pickings and the same at Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Choices were ok but only half the food was labelled. Because they're heavily understaffed getting a drink within the "all inclusive" model was painful and most nights we would only have 1 drink with food as there was no waiters tending tables. We gave up after 4 visits to the buffet and found alternatives outside the hotel. The al a carte options available were varied BUT they use a voucher/coupon system, we were given 3 vouchers but the restaurants were apparently already at capacity until our last night so we weren't even able to use them. You had to get in a queue at 10:30am to book the restaurants which took an hour so I can't tell you how good or bad they are. What I can say is that when we turned up for the buffet at 8:30 there was plenty of space in these restaurants. In a 5* hotel I would not be expecting limitations like this and such a poorly executed system of vouchers where you can't even go to the restaurants anyway! This was one of the reasons we booked. I would understand only being able to go to each one once even but we could not even do this. We did do the "village experience" which was one of the options and although food was good this was off-site in the local village of Milatos, we had to share tables and food and didn't even have a menu, we were only allocated 1 drink each after that you had to pay (all inclusive). Would not recommend, I'd just go and visit Milatos and enjoy your meal in the ordinary fashion, great idea but again poorly executed. The Bars. Again understaffed, you are queuing for everything, you only get free drinks until 23:00 and then you have to pay for it in this all inclusive 5* experience, not much entertainment laid on either. We stopped going to the bars on day 3 of 7 and just went out in the evening to Milatos, Sissi and Malia. But this obviously means taxi fares etc. The pools, general maintenance and cleanliness of the hotel were again poor, talking to other guests we were hearing some very interesting stories, again you can see a lot of this in other reviews. Some of the recent 5* reviews I'm reading are either fake or have been paid to do so or they've never been on a 5* all inclusive holiday before. We have seen they partnered with an agency who flew in some Instagram influencers. So if you have loads of social media followers then you will probably have a fantastic stay. We spoke to a lot of guests that had the same feeling as us, it gave the guests a lot to talk about for the wrong reasons. The management seemed to shrug off complaints talking about how good value the rooms and what people had paid to be there but that's not how these things work. The lack of care and accountability was shocking. You can see this in the responses. We were very disappointed overall, I will not be returning to this hotel and would not recommend it unless you are looking for an expensive bed and breakfast and are planning to skip breakfast or if you have a passion for queuing. If you have already booked then I hope it's gets better as there were people there looking in to the issues and trying to change this, the last day there seemed to be more staff but I can only comment on the 7 days I spent in the hotel - again just read the responses to reviews. If it still hasn't improved, I would recommend; No Name Bar in Milatos which is only a 10 minute walk from the beach where George and his team were fantastic at Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Drinks and any of the fish Restaurants. Sissi has plenty of great restaurants and bars which the hotel offers a transfer too and from and Malia old town - any restaurant is fantastic.

Lovely relaxing holiday in a beautiful setting

Reviewed By Michelle B

We have just got back from 2 weeks at this hotel and came back truly relaxed and rested. This is a lovely hotel and the staff really do all they can to make your holiday special particularly under the circumstances. I say this as they are obviously understaffed which is not their fault but you can see how hard working they all are, particularly in the main restaurant where a special mention goes to Christina and all her team that are just so lovely and friendly. My husband and I like to keep a bit active on holiday too and there are regular 30 minute classes you can attend through the day to keep you fit if you like, or relax with a bit of yoga maybe. I cannot praise Lisa enough! She is brilliant, her classes are fun and we were all great friends by the end of the 2 weeks. The TUI team, particularly Lisa and Sophie, are always happy and upbeat which can't be easy at times in their jobs but they are always ready with a smile and the banter at Aquafit was hilarious, that class is a must if you want a laugh in the morning. As far as the rooms were concerned, our first room was not great, very dated and overlooking the bar outdoor area but we spoke to a very helpful gentleman on reception (sorry, I can't remember your name!) and he was also excellent and acted quickly to move us to another room that had recently been renovated and was just lovely so a big thank you for that. We the also went into Agios Nikolaos, Elounda, Plaka and Spinalonga - all a must for your trip, and all people we encountered were just so friendly and helpful. Everyone seems to be locally born and bred and we learnt they haven't had a police station in Elounda for 27 years as there is never any crime! All the towns are so beautiful so it is good to venture out if you can. Like the other reviews say, it is 15 euros to Agios Nikolaos or 9 euros to Elounda so very reasonable. You can walk to Elounda from the hotel but the road is a bit hairy in some places. The rep's do a walk too so you can do that to get your bearings. Our first week was quite quiet at the hotel but then a lot busier in the second week but we were always able to get a sunbed so this wasn't a problem. You can change your beach towels as much as you like too at the beach bar. The Greek night was such fun and we attended this on both the Thursdays we were there, a lovely outdoor buffet and the gyros was lovely! The dancing is fun too if you don't mind getting up! The food generally is very good in the buffet and the 2 other restaurants, all very fresh and so much choice in the buffet, it really is good for all inclusive. I really can't recommend this hotel enough, the staff do make it though, we thoroughly enjoyed our 2 weeks and didn't want to leave!

Great Hotel

Unusually I’m writing this review 1/2 way through a 10 day stay. Generally all good. Staff are great and alway seem pleased to interact. Minor gripe is there is a shortage of beds near main pool area. I’m lucky enough to have booked a suite with a shared pool but it’s quite intense sun and feel guilty using the main pool and sunshades. Mentioned to management who responded and whilst I still don’t have a sunshade I’m really impressed with the way the matter was dealt with. No problem with recommendations for this hotel. Breakfast could be a bit better ( choice of food and a happy bkfst chef could improve) but overall really impressed.

Perfect in every way ?????☀️??? This holiday in Crete was picked as due to Long Covid & poor breathing & being in hospital I was nervous travelling long haul to St Lucia so we cancelled it & booked closer to hone instead & boy oh boy am I pleased we did. Marena (one of the senior Managers) met us at the hotel & showed us to our amazing deluxe junior suite with sea view in room 504. Wow wow wow. Located centrally with incredible view over pool out to sea & see the island coastlines - breathtaking. Modern room, large tv, fridge, sofa, dressing table, plenty of wardrobes & hangers, coffee table, big balcony, big bed, nespresso coffee machine, 2 x bottled water delivered daily, bathroom with bath & shower and separate wc. I commented to Marena that it’s a shame there was no full length mirror as every woman needs one. Within hours when we returned from the pool, a long mirror had been hung in our bedroom. Wonderful service & attention to detail. Outstanding Marena etal. The hotel gardens are immaculately kept, blooming flowers, shrubs & trees. Alex the Manager is most welcoming and seen daily chatting to guests and staff & checking all is good - excellent & you can see it’s paid off. The staff are so warm, friendly & professional. Special shout out to Maria ! The dining rooms and entertainment are second to none. We particularly loved the Greek night & dancing outside on the terrace overlooking the sea. The bar is fun & love the cocktails. I am so pleased we chose to come here in the end. We loved it so much - infact we’ve booked another week in September. That speaks volumes as we are both well travelled with high standards and this hotel will not let you down. 10/10 highly recommend A+* Marena - if you read this - YOU made this holiday extra special with your efficiency, professionalism & warmth. Thanks also to Manager Alexander for keeping his team & hotel to perfection. See you again on 11/9/22 ?‍♀️??????

The various swimming pools are excellent, there is also a lot to do for children. The hotel is within walking distance of Sitea where you can shop or eat at one of the restaurants. The hotel is situated east of Crete with very beautiful nature where you can make day trips. The hotel is very nice for couples or families with children, no noise in the evening just enjoy the bar with various (local) cocktails.
