Second visit, still very good

This was our second visit, our last 2 years ago with a couple of friends, this time we were with a large party. Service was still excellent, very friendly and helpful and the food also very good. Considering how many were in the party we didn't have too long to wait. The building alone is worth a visit.

Great Hotel with thoughtfully staff

Reviewed By nick_hodge

This hotel is well situated in Hattingen which is a surprisingly pretty town. The hotel is great value, has a superb buffet breakfast with a large arrange of choice. We arrived on 5 motorcycles and they parked us in a locked underground car park. So important to us. What really made this was the staff. The lady on reception met us with a smile. Saw we were tired. Told us to sit out in the sun. And have a beer. She’d bring the paperwork to register out to us. It was such an easy process that was so welcome. The lady serving drinks too was friendly and English is spoken well. Highly recommended

Great find in Hattingen

Hotel located in sort of an industrial area...must have been a former office building...but beautifully redesigned. We had booked a Deluxe Double but they gave us a Suite. Enormous, immaculately clean room with bed separated from the living space. Comfortable beds with plugs next to the beds. TVs in both bed and living space. Bathroom was enormous with freestanding tub, nice big shower and room to put things. Staff was very nice. Peaceful outdoor area for sitting with huge tables and umbrellas. Very quiet neighborhood. About a ten minute walk to get to the Old Town area of Hattingen which was truly charming. Breakfast was nice and we requested a packed lunch (we were biking) which was inexpensive and plentiful. Bike storage is outside but under a covered area (gate to the property locked at night so bikes were fine). Would ABSOLUTELY stay here again if biking through Hattingen.

Hochzeitsessen

Reviewed By johnwD4226SC

This was my fourth and last visit to this ‘renowned’ local. The first was several years ago for waffles and strawberry rhubarb jam. Delightful! Then my partner gave me a weekend special with overnight and delicious menu. Very good and relaxing. Then my partner and her twin sister asked whether we, immediate family, about ten, could celebrate their mother’s 90th birthday with some simple sandwiches and cake and coffee. “No, if you want sandwiches, then you must order our Bergische Kaffeetafel!” This would be twice as much food than required or wanted but they (Hackstuek’s management), offered no ‘light’ version table offering so we went elsewhere... To yesterday’s disaster and reason for my grave warning here: my sister-in-law got married and she wanted to offer something special for her new husband, sister and me. She booked a garden table for four and was suggested by the manager (I would like to name her but despite my fury do not), to order their Menu Karussell (05.15.-06.30.20) for €55 /plate. This we had. Please note that the day before my sister-in-law phoned Hackstück to ask if all was ready and assured that yes, all was arranged. The Carpaccio was great, the asparagus tip soup tasted very good but there was no asparagus tip to be found (if purée then please state it so), and -here my major complaint- for the main entry the women had fish and the men, steak. Both were stated to have asparagus and small potatoes, gratin or panned, as vegetable. We all were happily anticipating first-class asparagus and were served sautéed peppers! My steak was medium rare, the groom‘s, medium. These were misplaced when served. There was no mention or apology about missing asparagus at all. As we were under a tight time schedule, it was either take it or leave it and I ask for understanding when I say that I kept my cool due to the truly special occasion. As is we spent 3 1/2 hours there in lovely surroundings but some of the poorest service I have ever had. I could add details (e.g., I went indoors in order to find our waiter and order drinks after ten minutes waiting - despite only about twenty other luncheon guests who all received more attention and faster service), but underscore this insulting situation by presenting that no manager came and apologized, least explain why we were served sautéed bell peppers in lieu of asparagus in asparagus season. When the waiter asked how we enjoyed our meal, our host presented her dismay to with our waiter presented two bottles of sparkling wine and said the three espressi (which arrived five minutes before our desert), were on the house. For what it is worth, only I enjoy an alcoholic beverage and none of us four like bell peppers aside from occasionally fresh in salads. The desert was very good too. The poor management almost ruined our day, 30 hours later I am still livid. Never again here!

Organic and vegan friendly options in eco- conscious lodge setting.

Off the beaten path, but worth the trip. We stayed here to visit nearby friends. Beautiful restaurant on first floor with amazing offerings. Rooms are bright, clean and well appointed. No Wi- Fi or AC, but this fits with the eco-centric concept. The complementary breakfast buffet included eggs made to order, vegan options and farm raised meats. My daughter had the dutch pancake - spectacular. Staff were engaging and eager to help.

Campingplatz An der Kost

Embedded in the Ruhr meadows, between Bochum and Hattingen, directly on the banks of the Ruhr and the Ruhrtalradweg, which leads over the "Leinpfad" from the Middle Ages, lies the historic listed building "An der Kost", which has been used as a restaurant and hotel since 1910. "A traditional GERMAN CUISINE" - without finished products, freshly cooked. Our restaurant stands for good traditional cuisine in Hattingen. We offer you fresh salads, schnitzel, tarte flambée and changing daily specials. Our nice atmosphere and our hospitality always creates one with the guest family cordiality. Come to us and let yourself be pampered with the wonderful view over the Ruhr Valley, right on the banks of the Ruhr. We are looking forward to your visit.

Find another

Unfriendly camping, find another! Did a low season booking a week before arrival for one(1) night stay. Campervan, two adults, three dogs and electricity to the camper pitch. Got an email with costs, divided in the different parts. On arrival, a "gentleman" met up, I showed him the mail with the costs and he gladly took my money. He was not interested to understand anything in english. I have not had any problems before in Europe to use my english, it usally works fine with a little bit understanding from each parts. But not here. In near 10 cm of snow we were shown a pitch without any electricity. When using 35 meters of our own cable we could find power. The man questioned us how we would use the power. If we were using a fan the 3.50€ we already paid would suddenly be 8.50€! After that when the dogs wanted a pee-pee the man came at us and proclaimed that it was NOT allowed on the camping. (not even the small one, that is) Costs for the dogs one night: 7.50€. Whats in it for them at that cost? We were also shown the service building. Ladies room was under renovation so another small room was usable instead. That's fine. The service building needed a renovation. Badly. And perhaps a cleaning a couple of times each year. A shower added another 1.10€ to the cost per person. Would been ok if the place was clean and warm. Despite that we were told that is was OK to stay until 1 PM, the unfriedly host unplugged the electricity before 11 AM. Euros are welcome, guests and dogs are not. I have learnt a little dutch now: "Campingplatz an der Kost" means "Camping with extra cost".
