Not 4 star or ‘superior’ – rather inferior
Reviewed By rogermargaret2015We’ll start with the (few) things which were acceptable. Our (“superior”) room was a reasonable size - albeit the decor, while in acceptable condition, was outdated with multi-patterned wallpaper and clashing carpet. The bathroom was satisfactory. One of the big failings was breakfast. One morning we had to wait with a crowd of other guests for a table and every morning the food was poor: rubbery scrambled eggs, only two hot dishes, only a few types of cheese, mainly processed meats, a bowl of mixed fruits on one occasion with no separate fruits to choose from, only two flavours of fruit juice. Not 4 star quality – or even 3. Further, for all three of the days we were staying, the restaurant was closed (and it’s quite a walk to restaurants in the city). Not acceptable for 4 stars – or even 3. Some staff members were very helpful (4 star) - but a few others were unhelpful and rude (0 star). Prices would be acceptable for a 4 star hotel – but are too high for the quality of services we experienced. We cannot under any circumstances recommend this hotel; some of its main services were very poor.

They really make a difference! Thanks to Nicolle, Martina, Alex, Marek and the nice maintenance guy. The breakfast buffet is simply amazing! Very affordable pricing and a huge variety. We didn’t even bother going out for breakfast, can’t beat this one. This time I finally tried the bar (open 24 hrs!) and not only were the drinks and snacks good but Nicole and Alex are great conversationalists and made our time there fun! Can’t wait to come back next year!

Reviewed By Karen TThis hotel, in a historic and intresting building, is in a great location making all the tourist sites easily accessible. Although we booked a standard room it was huge. Görlitz lived up to its reputation as being culturaly fascinating and the hotel is also near the bridge leading to Poland - it was fun to go for a cocktail in a different country

Reviewed By Peter NThe new, well designed Hotel directly on Bersdorfer See is amazing. The interior, and services in combination with crystal clear water of Berzdorfer See makes you feel you are in the ocean resort. The surrounding area is still to be finished and soon will be offering even more impressive experience. We can only reccomend and hopefull will find the time to return.

In 2010 newly opened ***-star-hotel with a personal touch. In the immediate vicinity of the post place in the center and only a few meters from old town but in a quiet location. 18 spacious rooms and suites, modern facilities with historical details; owned and enclosed parking.
Comfortable hotel in an interesting place
Reviewed By kjp805Goerlitz is a small town with a long history right on the Polish border. You can walk over the bridge into Poland in a couple of minutes. Staying at the Alt Goerlitz was the perfect choice - close to the old town with friendly mainly Polish staff, large rooms and what a breakfast. The rooms were good and furnished with older pieces of furniture apart from the bed of course. But the breakfast was exceptional. The variety of dishes offered was not something I'd experienced anywhere in any place and all of it was beautifully made and presented. It kept me going on Goerlitz's cobbled streets for hours. There's plenty to do and see in this small town and in Bautzent, another small historic town 40 minutes away by train with a prison used by the Nazis, the Russians and then finally the East Germans for all manner of crimes and non-crimes in the 20th century.. When the wall came down in 1989 it's doors were opened and prisoners walked free. This area of Germany was part of the former GDR and is full of stories and places of interest. The Alt Goerlitz was our base for 3 nights and was excellent in all respects and modestly priced too.

We had a Comfort Double Room which was spacey and well equipped. Breakfast is a real treat in a nice atmosphere and a service lady being so kind. Parking in a nearby parking house is convenient.

Lack of Service
Reviewed By travelersbyways1Stay at your own risk. Arrived for a confirmed and paid reservation. Hotel was closed. A note on the locked door instructed us to ring the bell for service. Rang the bell ten times and no one answered. Called the phone number listed on the door and no one answered. We went to the tourist information office across the street and asked for assistance. The woman at the office said that hotel is closed. They are remodeling. When she learned the hotel accepted the reservation and we paid for the room, s he placed a call to someone at the hotel and they finally arrived. We were the only peole in the hotel. The next morning, there was no one at reception for check out. It was 930am and the place was locked tight. Three weeks after our stay, we were charged 50 euros for two keys which we had returned. Stay at your own risk. Customer service is a disaster.

Reviewed By Suzanne SI stayed here 2 nights and they have the softest, most comfortable beds! I was on the top floor in room 8 and the ceilings were sloped, which could be a problem for a tall person. There was no elevator, so taking a heavy bag up several flights of stairs was a mission. The staff were very helpful and the food was great - both breakfast and dinner.
