Reviewed By amitchellaIn trying to avoid the crowds at the larger resorts in Puerto Plata, I opted for this boutique property in Cabarete. What a find! I couldn't have chosen a better place to stay or had a more perfect experience. Beginning with my original inquiry about the property, Alondra was responsive and provide great information. Booking was easy and she took care of a number of details - both transportation and excursions. She is truly a gem. I stayed in a 2-bedroom penthouse unit, which was far more spacious than I imagined. The living area was on one floor (along with a comfortable patio area) and the 2nd level contained the rooftop, with a couch, table, lounge chairs, a bathroom/shower and a jacuzzi. The area is not covered for rain but perfect on a clear evening, with views of the ocean and nearby property. The unit had all of expected amenities and was very comfortable. We opted to alternate between cooking in the full kitchen and dining out. A great option to have and everything you need to make it home is included. The location is perfect as well. Walking along the beach, gives you access to several restaurants that are part of other resorts. A quick taxi ride puts you in a very busy area of shops and restaurants. A block off the main street, you can also find some wonderful places to eat and shop that feel a bit more local. There is also easy access to both Sosua and Puerto Plato proper. If you are in search of a clean, safe and quiet place to stay with wonderful service, definitely stay here. I do plan to return as soon as I can!

Reviewed By JPinRIJust returned from a week at Natura Cabana and like previous reviewers, we had a wonderful experience. We stayed in Coral, which was clean and has a lovely upstairs porch for looking out on palm trees and geckos. The restaurants served healthy and delicious food; service from everyone was excellent. We appreciated the daily tending of the resort grounds and constant surveillance from the security staff. The beach is beautiful but a bit too rough for us to go in beyond our knees. This was the perfect spot to get away from screens and other electronic distractions.

Velero Beach Resort was the first luxury Cabarete hotel to be built and the visionary architect chose the best location on the entire beach to build. Our grounds are sheltered from the wind for the non-windsurfers, but 5 meters into the water the windsurfer or kiter will have access to the trade winds. Velero Beach Resort is the only one of the Cabarete hotels to have a small reef right out front that forms shallow tidal pools at low tide. These are perfect for the toddlers to play in protected from the waves. Our restaurant is also the only one in Cabarete that is directly on the water for perfect sunsets!
Beautiful resort but unsafe with poor security
Reviewed By RichNic67A beautiful resort with ‘most’ of the staff very friendly and helpful, great food and drinks and we loved the daily happy hour however, at the beginning of our second week we suffered a robbery. All of our cash, travel documentation including passports, jewellery and other items which had been ‘safely’ locked in the in-room safe were taken along with the safe! Yes the entire safe was stolen, it was literally ripped out of the wardrobe! Initially both Security and Reception staff seemed disinterested stating that we would need to speak to the apartment owner. To this day neither the hotel or the apartment owner have assisted us in claiming against their insurance or recouping our losses for what was woefully inadequate security (contracted by the owners and the hotel). We noted that other resorts in Cabarete employed several armed Security Guards and had locked gates, with anyone venturing close to the perimeter robustly challenged, this was sadly not the case at Velero Beach resort. We did not like to see armed Guards but following our experience this would clearly deter any trespassers or thieves! Velero Beach resort had a beach access gate which was unlocked and open during daylight hours and on a daily basis we noted people who clearly were not guests eating at the poolside restaurant and using the pool! The apartment owner was helpful and over the next few days took us to Police Stations and translated for us and arranged for a taxi to take us on the 9 hour round trip to the British Embassy in Santa Domingo to collect Emergency Travel Passports. Despite the thief (not a local but a caucasian male appearing to be in his early 20’s) being caught on camera fleeing the scene with the safe (sadly only visible from behind and we have not been provided with any footage of him entering or leaving the apartment, despite several requests), he has not been caught although security was markedly stepped up the day after the robbery with increased patrols, additional lighting and cameras installed and foliage around the apartment cleared, sadly all too late for us! Disappointingly, despite there being an owners meeting the morning after the robbery, not one of the seriously wealthy owners offered to financially assist us in any way, despite us being left without cash or credit cards with many actually saying to a fellow guest that it “wasn’t their problem”! Very disappointing and thank god for the help of our family. Our awful second week was finally capped when we arrived at the airport to fly home. The Emergency Travel Passport would not link with the airport system and it took almost 3 hours to resolve the issue. Thankfully the amazing West Jet Captain delayed the plane for us and the very helpful check in Supervisor managed at the last minute to successfully check us in! A very stressful, upsetting and traumatic second week which has destroyed any chances of us ever returning to Velero Beach or the Dominican Republic.

Good bar and restaurant and excellent and professionnal service by Roman and Jenny. They are the perfect mix of courtesy and kindness. They made us feel like family right from the start.

Michael and his staff went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. My friends and I felt safe and secure throughout the day and night as they have on-site security. I will definitely be returning :)

Reviewed By fundoms2I had planned on staying for 5 days and ended up staying for 20!! and really don't know where to start. it was great all around. beautiful gardens, a short walk to the beach with some of the best surfing in the World, very safe, very chill, great vibe. amazing people! that applies to the old owners (THANK YOU ROMARIO), the new ones (Grant and Giselle are super nice) the other guests, the ambience, the cleanliness, the comfy bed, the beautiful pools. also an amazing addition is the little fridge in the room, as well as the community kitchen that allows for cooking. The Breakfast is perfect, fresh fruit, eggs, cornflakes and bread every day. thursdays is BBQ night! DO NOT MISS BBQ NIGHT! i extended my stay several times in order to get to enjoy one of these wonderful evenings.lol. Luis ( THE ARGENTINIAN BBQ GOD) prepared us a BBQ for 3 Thursdays. The other guests were all super people, very interesting, very chill. BIG SHOUT OUT AND THANK YOU TO KARINA who is an amazing person and took care of all questions, very friendly, helpful and for sure a great asset to the Hostel Staff. She went above and beyond to even arrange a transportation to Bavaro. I will be back FOR SURE!

These are good people who want you to enjoy your stay and look out for your needs. Everyone is friendly, the food is great, the location is perfect, and the rooms are very nice. We stayed in the superior suites - spacious and clean. This is a very relaxing place and they care for all of your needs, be it taxis, recommendations for restaurants, activities, or just good conversation. Great humans here. Do it.

Reviewed By CshyrMy family and I traveled to Cabarete for the first time a week ago. This place was a wonderful home away from home. The staff was friendly and extremely helpful. They arranged airport transport and made helpful recommendations for our day trip to Ocean World. The condos are well appointed and extremely clean. The cleaning staff came daily to clean and ensure everything was working well. The condos are right on the beach. And while the pool is small…it was perfect for us. We can’t wait to come back!
