Yangshuo Sudder Street Guesthouse

Yangshuo sudder street guesthouse is run by a Chinese husband-Japanese wife couple Dongdong and Axiang. They met each other in Sudder street, a famous place for international backpackers in Kolkata of India. How many strangers are passing by when we are traveling? We believe none of the meeting is coincidental, seizing the chance to know a stranger might totally change your life. “Treasure every encounter, for it will never recur.” We hope our guesthouse can be like Sudder street: Travelers encounter each other, share stories, have unforgettable memories on the way.

Excellent service, excellent rooms.

English-speaking staff of very high level. They offer plenty of help and information with regards to finding things to do and will book things for you including the travel to various things. The room itself was a bit cold, even with the heating but that's more a result of the time of year/weather plus the style of the building (huge windows for the view). Ultimately the value of the price is great. You can't go wrong here. The staff in particular are excellent and for that alone I'd give 5 stars. Thank you for your help!

Comfortable Stay!

Good location to explore Guilin-walking distance to old bus station(South station), 2 minutes walk to the right to have Guilin dried noodles for breakfast and to the left to have warm soya bean drink, steamed stuffed buns(Bao and Mantou) and dumplings, shops and restaurants are just stones-throw away from the hostel. with elevator, room was clean and covers the basics, bed was clean and very comfortable, the front desk staff are friendly and helpful especially the young gentlemen who loves coffee has a big smile on his face (sorry that I didn't manage to get his name), they spoke English well. Except the tissue box cover was dusty, everything was great!

4-Star Hotel Deserves 3-Star Rating

This hotel did not have very good management or conveniences. The building condition for the restaurant was very poor. There was no air conditioning in the restaurant. Trying to find any water to drink with your meal was very difficult. The air-conditioning unit in the room was unsatisfactory. The rooms very large in size but the property needed improvement. The worst part about any hotel in China is that they issue you a magnetic door entry card for a key; that same key must be inserted into a receptacle located on the wall just inside the door in order to turn on power for the room. If you leave the room for a few hours and return, the room may be very hot and if the air conditioner does not work well, the room may never get cool again before you check out! Baise is actually a very beautiful city!

Wanjinglou Hotel

Rustic ambiance with a friendly staff

Reviewed By Janitron

I stayed at Wanjinglou Hotel for two nights in mid-July 2019. Overall, I was pretty satisfied with my stay. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful in providing information before and during my stay, as well as arranging my onward ticket to Yangshuo and organizing a jeep pick-up down the mountain to the bus stop. When I arrived during a rainstorm, they were having an electrical problem on the second floor, so they generously upgraded me to a larger room on the third floor with one of the corner window views. The food was also delicious, and it goes without saying that the views from Wanjinglou are absolutely stunning. As other reviews have said, the hotel is located almost atop one of the Jinkeng Rice Terraces in Tiantouzhai, which means that for some, it could be a difficult experience getting there. From the Dazhai parking lot, I paid 30 rmb for a seat in a jeep (you may have to wait a while at that price for other travelers and locals to fill up the car), but once out of the jeep, you still have a 10-20 minute walk uphill on primarily unpaved roads and paths (which can be a little confusing the first time, even with the picture directions I was given). Under normal weather conditions, this probably wouldn't be so bad, but in the pouring rain and muggy July humidity, the roads were muddy and slippery, and I was soaked by the time I got to the hotel. My point is to be mindful of the season you are coming in, as well as keeping in mind how much you are carrying. Also, know your physical limitations, as the hike up can be tough. That being said, if you are planning to hike the terraces and stay overnight in this area, you might as well stay up at the top because the views are worth it. And if you're gonna stay up at the top, Wangjinglou Hotel is a great place to stay. Again, you should definitely be mindful of the season you are coming. It rained almost nonstop the 2+ days I was there, which limited the things I could do or photograph. Power outages should be expected atop the mountain during heavy rain, and the power was out the majority of the time I was at the hotel. They did put on a generator for a few hours at night time, but overall, it was troublesome at times with no working wi-fi or ability to recharge my electronics. Of course, this was not the hotel's fault, and they were very apologetic about the situation and a staff member even let me use his personal Internet connection when I needed to contact someone. Had I not come during the rainy July season though, perhaps my experience would have been quite different. While my visit to the area wasn't ideal with the uncooperative weather and electricity, Wanjinglou Hotel and it's staff still made my stay comfortable and enjoyable despite the problems of the season. I'd still give the hotel itself a 5-star rating and recommend them to anyone wanting to stay overnight in the area, as the staff is helpful and friendly, and those views really can't be beat.

Xingping This Old Place Int'l Youth Hostel

Why stay in the city.... when the riverside is SO AMAZING!Just 27 km outside of touristhotspot Yangshuo you will find the 'This Old Place Int’l Youth Hostel', a very unique youth hostel. We live in a small town named Xingping which has 1740 years old. It has the most beautiful riverview of the whole li-river erea. For this reason the riverside of Xingping is printed on the picture of the back the Chinese 20 yuan note. Our hostel is just located 50 meters away from Xingping port. So from some rooms’ balcony you may see the amazing riverview just the picture on the back the Chinese 20 yuan note.

We could top up our water bottle with hot or cold water here. There are regular bus every 15 mins to Yangshou. Journey is about 45 mins.

Xiaobali Boutique Hotel

Gorgeous interior and comfort on a small budget

Reviewed By TravellingApe

XiaoBaLi (literally “Little Bali”) is one of three branches of the “Xiao Qing Mai” (“Little Chiangmai”) brand of hotels in Yangshuo, managed by an amiable local family. I think the older pictures posted in TA belong to a hotel under a different management previously – the address is the same but the hotel owners must have been changed and it has been completely revamped since. Location : In a quiet lane about 5 minutes’ walk from the river bank and about 10 minutes’ walk to West street. There are several other quaint-looking boutique style hotels along this lane (no convenience shops or restaurants on this stretch of the road) and the front of the hotel faces lots of greenery. I love the location for its proximity to the river and also the commercial West street without the noise and crowds. One end of the lane (nearer to the river) only becomes busy around 12.30 pm to 1.30 pm as it is close to the land transport pickup point for boat tours that arrive from Guilin. If you arrive at the Yangshuo Southern bus station, it will cost about 10 RMB by “motorbike taxi” to the hotel (10 minutes’ ride). Didn’t see any taxis at the bus station but I guess the hotel might be able to help arrange for your taxi or local car transport . Room : Various room types from tiny to family rooms. The ones with balcony (rather small) are the best as some of the rooms with windows look right into walls of nearby buildings! The entire hotel adopts a Thai/Balinese design style so you see a lot of teak wood furniture and Southeast Asian ethnic fabrics being used in the furnishings. All are done in a beautiful and tasteful style and you might forget that you are in China momentarily.….. well, a nice change if you’ve been in China for quite some time already. Room is very comfortable and though quite small (I booked a mini double with balcony, located on level 3), it has all the standard amenities within (kettle, mugs, bottled water, hairdryer, toiletries, good quality towels etc.). Take note that the large toilet/shower-room does not have a door separating it from the rest of the room – only a linen curtain to protect your modesty : ) Overall : The family members are friendly and helpful and the small lobby is a nice pleasant place to hand around with a drink (juices, coffee etc are sold there). I enjoyed my stay thoroughly and thought this is a really good deal – great environment, beautiful interior and pleasant staff, all on a modest budget. Highly recommended.
