Reviewed By yeraniadI was in Viajero Hostel the last week and was amazing, is a great place to stay in Cartagena, is close to everything, the staff is so nice and helpful. The Hostel infrastructure is one of the best that you can find in the city, the rooms are comfortable and clean, the Palo Mango bar is really good, you can enjoy a drink or talk with people in a relaxing way. Finally the protocols for COVID -19, I can say, they are careful with every recommendation from the government, Highly recommend!

Located in the historical center of Cartagena de indias, inside the walled colonial city where you can find restaurants, bars, hotels, and many different activities to enjoy your stay. We have private rooms and share dormitories with air conditioning.

Reviewed By GordonsvilleGalStayed here for three nights. Could have done SO much better. Good: It’s cheap. Some rooms have air conditioning. It’s centrally located in Old Town, close to many bars, restaurants, shops. Easy walk to waterfront, museums, street markets, etc. But so is every other hotel and hostel in Old Town , and there are dozens to choose from. Bad: You get what you pay for. No hot water. At all. No towel. Regatton blasting late into the night EVERY night. Impossible to get away from it. Dirty floors— my feet were black. Breakfast — not worth $12000 pesos. Use the street vendors outside instead. Old worn sheets, towels, chairs. Cracked tiles. Busted flowerpots, straggly plants. Cigarette butts around pool. If you just need a flop house, this place meets the requirements. Overall, this is a place that is managed by no one who cares. It is not kept up, “rules” are not enforced, cleaning is superficial, the furniture and decor is tired, and it is impossible to get a good night’s sleep due to the incessant noise from the pool area. I regret choosing this hostel.

Posada Kalea is a beachfront paradise hostel located in the north area of the city of Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, on one of the most extensive beaches of the “Corralito de Piedra” and only a few minutes from the most important hotels in the city, Las Americas Convention Center, 2KM from the Rafael Nuñez International Airport and only 7km from the historical center. Thanks to its strategic location, all of our rooms have a spectacular sea view, and in addition to this, they are equipped with mini bar, snacks, satellite TV, private bathroom and mosquito nets. We offer bar and restaurant service, as well as nautical sports services, such as: kitesurf, windsurf, SUP, fishing, kayak, hobbie cat, ski, wakeboard and paramotor. Every morning our guests can enjoy a delicious cup of Colombian coffee, accompanied by our lovely Caribbean Sea view. In the afternoons, from your balcony or from the beach, you can enjoy the wonderful sunsets, and at night you can enjoy the calm and tranquility.

Reviewed By NYperspectiveI stayed in a private room for about three weeks in January of 2022 and really enjoyed my stay! There isn't much to do in La Boquilla other than kite, but a taxi ride into the old city costs $3-$5 and takes about 20mins. There is not a shared kitchen, but a great breakfast is included and there are two restaurants 3mins away walking where you can get a tasty, typical Colombian meal for about $3. Gloria, the receptionist, is incredibly sweet and accommodating- she was happy to change breakfast a bit to accommodate vegetarians, low carb, etc. Sebastian, the owner, couldn't be nicer or more helpful. He also owns Colombia Kite, which distributes a lot of major kite brands in Colombia. Gear is about 20% cheaper there than in the US or Europe. The long beach is great for learning, and the guys at the kite school are always happy to help out. The wind was kitable on a 12m (78kg) about 90% of the time in the afternoon. Got out on my 9m a few times as well. The only downside is the noise from neighbors and construction, so bring ear plugs. The wifi was a bit spotty, and when it did work, it was pretty slow, not enough for a video chat, but good enough to load SD videos. But cell data in Colombia is very cheap, so not a huge deal. Other than that, everything was perfect!

Reviewed By Kat KThe hostel is located at the cool & colorful historic neighborhood of Getsemani, a short walk from the old town center and major attractions and is housed in a beautiful old building. However, the rooms and bathrooms at the time when we stayed could use a lot of work in terms on cleaning and maintenance… nothing was disgustingly dirty but nothing felt entirely clean either; bedsheets kinda tired and with stains, the furniture, curtains etc kinda dusty, no cleaning or linen change during our 3-nights stay. Bathroom and common areas in a similar condition while the door service (returning to the hostel you have to ring a bell so they let you in) is not always responsive; once we had to wait over 15 minutes in the street at night before they let us in (no apology of course). It is not terrible but there is sooo much room for improvement… for the rest of our stay in Cartagena, we booked another place for the same price (just 1€ more per night) and it was 10 times better/newer/cleaner and with a pool, cleaning service and breakfast included… so, we definitely recommend checking your options before concluding to this one!

Reviewed By Vacation59245663728We stayed 3 nights at Secreto Hostel Isla Grande. Our overall experience: average hostel with terrible management. A few highlights: The rooms are old, especially the bathrooms where mirrors are “broken/not functional”. The reception works until 4 p.m.. If you have a problem after that time, no one really cares. We had to insist and wait for over one hour until a staff member, which was partying at the beach helped us in the evening. In addition, the hostel does not make any effort to organise tours (snorkling, yoga, mangrove and plankton). They always try to find excuses (broken boat / no guide / teacher got sick) why these activities are not offered. Another issue was that there was no water in the room and neither in the whole hostel the fist two morning (until 12pm). The biggest problem however was the loud music at the bar and the parties at the beach organised by the staff. We could not sleep until 2 a.m! The rosario islands are supposed to be a protected area (national park) which is definitely not respected by this hostel. If you would like to explore the island and the natural treasure in tranquillity and in a sustainable way then better look for another option.

Reviewed By udai113Nice hostel close to the airport but extremely far from the city. Very reasonably priced for the room and the buffet breakfast they offer. However, would recommend staying only for a night as it is too far from the city. The separations between the dorm beds are tooo thin - I could clearly hear all the details of a blow-job two beds away!!!

The hostel is a little more expensive that others in the city, but you get what you pay for as it was very quiet and clean and in a perfect central location. The staff were very friendly and helpful and could speak good English, as our Spanish wasn’t up to scratch! You also got a great breakfast included in the price, and the bar/cafe served reasonably priced beer and coffee. We also enjoyed using the rooftop space to chill out in the evenings.

Reviewed By FunkyMarshmallowWe stayed four nights in this beautiful little oasis, the room was a good size and clean, bed was comfortable, shower was super hot, breakfast, fruit, juice, eggs and toast is made to order with vegetarians catered for. Staff are wonderful, friendly and helpful. The dipping pool in the courtyard is refreshing and there is a roof area, perfect for watching the sun rise over Cartegena. Perfect location for Getsemani and Historic town, didnt want to leave. My only reservation was lack of bedside lamp, the main light in the room was a little harsh for evening reading hence the loss of the 5th star

Reviewed By AletheGreat08The hotel is located in a very central part of town and for me, that is everything! Stayed in Room 201 which had a balcony overlooking the street. Has good air conditioning whihc you WILL NEED so that's a plus. There is no BOILING hot water but the temperature is do-able and with the heat, trust me, you'll be looking to take cold showers anyway. If you don't like noise at night, ask for one of the back rooms (personally, was so tired didn't bother me much) My only complaint would be that the sheets are really thin so I would suggest bringing an extra blanket if you like being cozy at night. Shoutout to Nestor and Edwin who were absolute sweethearts and very helpful for tips about the city and anything we needed. We arrived before the check-in time and we were able to store our luggage and go out to explore! Overall, quaint hotel with good location and good staff! :D

A TRAVELERS BIGGEST NIGHTMARE
Reviewed By Tour06780559630Your worst nightmare as for a traveler! Please don’t go to this place! I’m traveling with two friends and during a tour where the hostel recommended to leave our valuables in the hostel. Our lockers were broken into and everything valuable was stolen (passports, credit cards, debit card, money, jewelry). No cooperation at all from the staff, the police were only informed 2 hours later and camera images were "coincidentally" black. The weird thing about this situation is that the hostel was the only one who knew which lockers were ours and what time we would be gone. Furthermore, they did not try to find a suitable solution and the boss of the hostel did not contact us or make any effort to reach us after several requests. PLEASE DON’T GO HERE!
