The hike up the mountain took 2 hours. It is not an easy hike and luckily there were a few Bedouin huts open for snacks and drink. The hike is tough as you get close to the top. It is well worth the trip

We booked this trip with the Egypt Tours company and it turns out we paid too much since St. Catherine monastery is closed because of the COVID virus, but we still paid for it. I would suggest going with other companies that only climb up Mt. Sinai and save money. There were 5 different vans from different tour companies going from Sharm El Sheikh to St. Catherine at the same time our van was and we encountered these vans at the St. Catherine gift shop before beginning the climb up Mt. Sinai. The tour company gave every a small flashlight so we can see the path in the dark, and they turned us over to a guide who brought the group up the mountain path. There are frequent stops along the way, but our guide liked to drink coffee at every stop so we ended up waiting for him to finish coffee at every stop. At the top of the stair section, there are several coffee stands and you can also buy souvenirs. If you feel cold, you can also rent a big blanket for $3 USD, but I didn't need it because I went in May and it was not too cold. I also brought sweat pants and jacket, so I was not too cold at the top. After you reach the last coffee shops, you are on your own and the guide is not involved, so you can go to the mosque at the top to see the sunrise when you want. I think it's best to wait for first light, before sunrise to go to the very top, not when it is still too dark to see the stairs. I and several other people found a spot on a rock to see the sunrise and it was just like in a movie. Very special experience at a very important places in biblical history. After the sun became too bright to view and began to feel hot, we all walked down the trail on our own to St. Catherine, but this turned out to be the hazardous part of the trip. One of the women in our group slipped and hurt her ankle while going down the stair part of the trail and limped the rest of the way down. We waited for the tour operator to show up at St. Catherine, since it doesn't open early, and the only thing available was the gift shop. The church was closed because of COVID, so we returned to Sharm El Sheikh with only half of the trip done.

St. Catherine city has a high spiritual significance as a result of its location near Moses Mountain. Enjoy the Beautiful landscape all the way from Sharm El Sheikh and visit the oldest monastery in the world! St. Catherine's Monastery lies on the Sinai Peninsula, at the mouth of a gorge at the foot of Mount Sinai in St. Catherine's City. The monastery is Orthodox and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This monastery is one of the oldest working Christian monasteries in the world. The monastery was built by order of Emperor Justinian I, enclosing the Chapel of the Burning Bush ordered to be built by St. Helen, the mother of Constantine I, at the site where Moses is supposed to have seen the burning bush; the living bush on the grounds is purportedly the original. It is also referred to as "St. Helen's Chapel". The site is sacred to Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

At the end of April we were on holiday in Sharm el Sheikh. Our group wanted to visit the city and, by luck, we booked a city tour with the Sharm Smile Tour. We liked it very much. We were all delighted with this experience. There were wonderful few hours, which passed very quickly. We really appreciated the fact that our guide speaks English very well and gave us a lot of interesting information. We enjoyed the tour, we have beautiful memories and the joy that we had a good guide and all the organization of the tour was carefully done.

It's a unique experience to follow the biblical history of the sacred mountain, where it’s believed Moses received the Ten Commandments. Climbing to the summit to watch a spectacular sunrise is worth the tough efforts you do. Our tips: - be ready for a cold weather on the top (ecpecially in winter season, snow, -C temperature) and take with you heavy clothes (gloves, hat, jacket); - you can take hot drinks with you in thermo cup and some snacks. The prices on the mountain are "touristic"; - wear comfortable shoes; - there is option to rent a camel if you are tired, but the last part of the route - 750 steps to the top you have to walk. Attention: we do not pick up at the airport, port or bus stations located on the ring road. The possible pickup locations are any hotel within Sharm-el-Sheikh and bus stations on El Salam road. The possible drop-off locations are any hotel within Sharm-el-Sheikh, airport main entrance gates (300m walking to terminal), bus stations on El Salam road.

Inclusions: Air-conditioned vehicle, Entrance fees, Hotel pickup and drop-off, Bedouin guide during climbing up the mountain

Exclusions: Food&Drink, Camel ride

I highly recommend taking this trip by plane. We booked less than 2 days in advance, there were almost no tickets left. We had business class seats to go. My name was wrong so I had to buy another ticket at the airport, maybe last seat on the plane. The agency was fair and deducted the amount from the total price agreed, very correct! From there, everything went very smooth. We were expected at the airport in Cairo by our guide Zenab and our driver. We had a private tour just for ourselves. We could go at our own pace. Zenab was a great guide and person. She was very welcoming and did her best to please us at all times. Overall, I totally recommend this travel agency, they are very thrust worthy and will guide you from and back to your hotel entrance. Thank you!!
