The memorial contains the last piece of Berlin Wall with the preserved grounds behind it and is thus able to convey an impression of how the border fortifications developed until the end of the 1980s. M10 tram from HBF station. Probably THE best free exhibition. Very interesting, sombre and thought provoking, the area shows the history of Bernauer Strasse, the layout of the wall, Look out towers, tunnels etc. Lots of information freely available all along the site as well as the murals on the buildings.

This memorial marks the place where politician and social actist Karl Liebknecht was shot dead by the Freikorps, murdered for his participation in the Spartacist uprising, along with Rosa Luxemburg, whose body was dumped in the Landswehr canal nearby.

Children should never be victims of man's follies. This memorial reminds us of the fate of so many of them, sent to London or to the camps. To life or to death. Breaks your heart. Very well executed artwork.

A fascinating tour round the house where Bertolt Brecht and his wife lived in Berlin, complete with personal items of furniture, books, pictures, etc. Also a small shop with a display and short film. Next door is the cemetery where the Brechts are buried, along with Hegel. Great value at 5 euros and 2.5 euros for pensioners, but check opening hours beforehand - and it's quite hard to find.

The site of the Nazi bookburning on May 10, 1933 now houses a memorial to that event: a below-ground room lined with empty bookcases, which you see through a window set in the pavement.

Free Location: Tiergarten. Close to Brenderburg gate and Reichstag. Vosit Duration: 45 Minutes. Erected in the British sector of Berlin by the Soviet Union to commemorate its 80 000 soldiers died during the Battle of Berlin between April and May 1945. The memorial takes the form of a curved stoa topped by a large bronze statue of a Soviet soldier. The marble built in came from destroyed government buildings. At the back of the columns exist the names of the the soldiers burried there since this memorial is also a burial site of more than 2,000 fallen Soviet soldiers. In front sides of this memorial you will notice the T-34/36 tank and ML Howitzer. Other Russian war memorials exists in Berlin. Treptower Park memorial is not to be missed.

The pictures along the corridor contrast starkly with the pictures of the victims who fell under the Soviet bullets. Impressive and emotional memorial.
