June 26, 2021 Almeta Stockton

Vancouver was founded as “Gastown” by an Englishman with a penchant for beer and storytelling. Today Gastown is a historic section of the Canadian metropolis, and the lively pubs still reflect the area’s former status as a sort of community drinking center. The city’s forests, grand parks, and impressive suspension bridge beckon travelers to explore them, as do the city’s shops and museums. Relive the glory of the 2010 Winter Games with visits to Olympic venues and the marvelous Olympic Cauldron.

We organized a Virtual Trivia Night to bring together friends and colleagues as a way to "see" each other safely since all of our usual dinners and parties were not happening this year. What a fantastic way to connect online!! Trivia questions were fun yet challenging and allowed smaller group teams to play together :)

We did the Mystery at the Majestic Theatre with 2 adults and 3 kids (12, 12, and 9). The staff was exceptional, the option of "unsolicited hints" was so fun and very helpful, and the whole room was so well thought out, professional, and engaging. It was definitely challenging but not infuriating, and we all had such a great time that we can't wait to try the other room. The only 'con' is the location, but the room was so good that it still gets 5/5!

Zero Latency

Zero Latency is the global leader in free-roaming, multiplayer virtual reality. Our “gaming arena” spans over 1500 sq ft, designed for 6 players and is the largest VR gaming arena in western Canada.

I went to Zero Latency in the first weekend of March 2020 with a group of friends. We all play on a rec sports team together so we thought we'd try out our teamwork skills in VR. A few of us have done these group VR things before, but for everyone in our group, it was our first time at Zero Latency. We booked ahead and they were ready for us. We got fitted with the backpacks, guns, VR goggles and headsets. They made sure all our equipment was working before going in. The game we played was a space mission. I have to say, compared to others, the story was actually pretty good, but what blew me away was the immersion. Not only were the goggles great (no screen door effect) but because this place was so big, when you walk around the game, you actually forget you're just in a big empty room in a mall. Was so much fun, and the staff used their own phone to take photos and videos (with our permission). After the session was over, they AirDropped it to my phone for free. Super nice of them.

Most laughs I've had in years! Players were funny and enthusiastic and audience participation was encouraged. Not for young children or prudes but not vulgar either. Just real adult/teen humor. The admission price was very reasonable. Get tickets early because it sold out on a Tuesday night ! Theater is located on Granville Is. so parking is at a premium ( use the nearby underground lot ).

Special effects, including wind, mist and scents, combine with the ride’s motion to create an unforgettable experience. At FlyOver Canada you will spend approximately 25 minutes getting introduced to our great country. You will then experience the unforgettable 8-minute Ultimate Flying Ride soaring over some of the most spectacular scenery the country has to offer. Open year round, 7 days a week. Conveniently located downtown at Canada Place.

This is a fabulous experience even though its only a short ride. We sit in a row of seats (7 to a row) and belt up as if we're going to fly. Once secured the safety barrier drops down and the seats move forward (or give that impression) while we are still in darkness. We then "ride" through clouds and are whisked off on a coast to coast plane ride (without the plane) taking in mountains, forests, zooming through valleys and the whole effect is quite breathtaking. We went on this ride twice but you could ride it many times and be mesmerised every time. Totally and utterly fabulous!
