The city standard bearer stands on a Corinthian pillar in town hall square facing the Rathaus. The figure had withstood abuse including losing his metal plate to a soldier of Napoleon's army and for a period of time, the bearer had a cane rather than a sword.

The most interesting of the many fountains built in Bern. I think it was made in the 16th century and reflects the local folklore about the monster that eats children.

This fountain is a testament to Samson's strength - he has the lion's mouth apart with his hands. The statue was donated by the Burcher's Guild so it is not surprising that he has a weapon and butcher's tools on his belt!

The Lady Justice has a sword in her right hand and the golden scales of justice in her left, and her eyes are blindfolded. An her feet are a sultan, emperor, king and pope with closed eyes, showing their reverence for justice. When Napoleon's army marched into Bern, soldiers stole the sword and scales!
