April 28, 2023 Vivienne Hutton

Relics ranging from ancient shrines to Venetian-style castles overlook swaths of golden sand beaches on Kos, a fertile island in Greece’s Dodecanese chain. Mega-resorts dominate the developed southern coast, while visitors looking for tranquility head to the quieter northern shores.

Nice ist not a Discribtion

I stayed for only two nights there, a big mistake. The stuff there is amazing (greet to my Malakas Steve and Steve) they gave me so many great recommendations f.e. restaurants (btw. best seafood in my life) and other sights. After a long day go to the bar and you will feel so warm welcomed. The boss (don't remember his name SORRY) is taking care of you than no one else will do. So friendly and kind that's unbelievable as well. You will find really cleaned apartments and everything around what you need (Supermarket, Pool, a playground for kids) just everything. Big Thank you guys for this amazing stay. Greets Lukas

Stunning Experience

Reviewed By MaryAnnDorset

We stayed here for two weeks at the end of September. Our stay was faultless. The accommodation is excellent, good sized room, well equipped with cooking facilities, kettle etc. Good shower with excellent pressure and always lovely and warm. The balcony was a good size with comfy chairs…Housekeeping was excellent. The bed, probably the comfiest bed we’ve ever slept in away from home. A easy 10 minute flat walk to town and 25 min flat walk to the Salt Lake. Would we recommend…definitely…would we return…hell yes!!!! Wonderful Miros

Mixed feelings

Within an hour of arriving at Chrysoula, I wanted to give it a 1-star review – first impressions were not good (but keep reading, it does get better!) The sign to reception points to a building that is no longer in use, only by luck did I stumble upon a man who informed me you must check-in at the pool bar now. For the price, I was prepared for a basic room but what I got was at the very bottom end of what I would consider acceptable. The bathroom needed a deep clean (a faint but unmistakable smell of urine lingered), air conditioning – an extra €5 per day (only mentioned in the small print on Booking.com) – was weak: I took to detaching the electricity fob from the door key so I could leave it on while I was at the pool, otherwise it took so long to chill the room it wouldn’t have been worth paying for. The bed was firm, though not quite the least comfortable I’ve slept in. Also, I stayed for 4 nights and my room was only cleaned once - luckily I'm not a messy person, but fresh towels and emptying the toilet bin more than once would have been nice. So, those are the negatives. Are there any positives? Well, yes actually. The pool is as big and fantastic as it looks in the photos (I’m a swimmer and it’s a real luxury having a full 25m pool at any hotel). Breakfasts are better than I was expecting with cooked to order pancakes, bread, toast, Greek yoghurt with honey, full English if you want it – just order at the bar and they bring it over to you. The staff are very friendly and do seem to try to give you a pleasant experience. Cold drinks at the bar are VERY cold (nothing like an ice-cold beer in the afternoon), though a tad expensive at €3 a can, when you can buy the same for €1.50 across the road. The location is okay: a supermarket is just opposite and the beach is only 150m past the supermarket. The closest tavernas are 5 minutes’ walk, though if you want more variety, it’s 15-25 minutes to get a selection of places. There is also a bus stop just to the left on the main road, useful for getting to/from Kos Town or other places on the island. In the end, I settled on a 3-star rating, because despite the efforts of the staff, the breakfasts and the pool, the rooms really need improving for it to deserve being called "very good". It wasn’t a lot cheaper than I’ve paid elsewhere - especially with the air conditioning charge added on – and it’s hard to feel like it’s great value for money.

Nice apartment, shame about the cleaners

Reviewed By lxdonogh

Good location, decent sized rooms, nice pool, great cocktails. But... I would have given 4 stars if it wasn't for the cleaners. They knocked really early, when we told them to come back later they just stood outside and knocked again every 10 minutes. The next day we put a "do not disturb" sign on the door and they completely ignored it and came in while we were still asleep! When I pointed out the sign to them they just shrugged and started cleaning. It felt like we were being forced to wake up extra early and leave the room just to accommodate them. I wouldn't have minded if we were the last room but they seemed to start at our room and work their way down the rest of the apartments, so us being asleep in there ruined their routine. Not a great way to treat paying guests and it really spoilt our stay.

Lovely hotel, great location

Reviewed By slv30

Absolutely loved this hotel. It was refurbished a couple of years ago and you can tell its still new and done to a good standard. The rooms are a really nice size (we had a 2 bed apartment) and surprisingly quiet given it's in a town. All the staff are really friendly, especially Costas on reception, he was so helpful and nice to have a chat with of an evening. The pool is a decent size and very refreshing from the sunshine, with views towards Bodrum. While there's only around 14 sunbeds, spaced out for social distancing, 99.9% of the time we never had a problem getting one, no matter what time of day. I think because this is not all inclusive so people don't feel tied to the hotel, also as the pool area is fairly small it's really obvious if someone has reserved a bed and then disappeared, so most people were considerate, which was a nice change. The location of this hotel is perfect for self-catering or b&b, with the harbour reached at the end of the road (we had a room at the front of the building and could just see the harbour from our balcony), and the beach reached across the road in the other direction. Both offered such a huge choice of bars and restaurants we're being forced to come back as we missed so much, and will stay at astron suites again without hesitation. Finally I'd like to add, that as 2 nervous travellers (first holiday since covid) the protocols in place both in the astron suites and kos generally made us feel very safe (much more so than at home) so another reason we will be very happy to return

Perfection

Reviewed By simoneh410

Our first time in Kos to attend my daughter’s wedding at a nearby resort, so we didn’t know what to expect. We booked three apartments here, all were spotlessly clean with everything that we could need and wonderful sea views. After 4 days here, I suffered a back injury which left me incapacitated. Denise called the Doctor for me and visited me with snacks and coffee. Her kindness and compassion went over and beyond what I could’ve ever expected. She also moved me to a ground floor apartment to make mobility easier. If you want a true taste of Greek hospitality, come here. Food is fresh and great value. Denise, her husband George and their entire family make you feel so welcome. I am so desperately unhappy to be leaving here but I am doing so more relaxed and with a smile on my face. Oh, and we will definitely be back! Highly recommended!
