Takachiho Gorge

Reviewed By garetjax72 - Singapore, Singapore

Nice walk along the gorge from Mihashi to Shinbashi Bridge with lovely autumn colours along the route. The waterfall beside Mihashi Bridge is pretty, but not very spectacular. Quite interesting to see how the river has carved a route through the basalt columns of the gorge. Note that there are quite a number of stairs along the route, with no slopes for wheelchairs or prams. Parking beside Mihashi Bridge is most convenient, but is very limited. Do come early.

Truly, green, magical place, where I was able to see small macaques and native yakushika deer in a verdant green moss forest.

Naruko Valley

Reviewed By jaylowe - Hong Kong, China

This gorge + valley are so colourful in autumn. We drove there and it wasn't hard to get a parking spot. The whole valley was dotted with red, orange and yellow and very pretty. I found the autumn leaves here are more in red than other places in Tohoku Japan. (Most places we've been to are mostly yellow to orange in shade.) We hike down the valley and back up. It's really one of the highlights of our trip.

Sandankyo

Reviewed By j00lic - Singapore, Singapore

Sandankyo was the highlight of our trip to Hiroshima, and I highly recommend everyone to at least walk the lower gorge up to the noodle house (1.5km one way). The scenery is to die for, and the route is manageable for most. If you are fitter, keep going up the gorge, and target to catch the shuttle bus that leaves from the mid-level carpark back to Sandankyo at 2pm. Most people should be able to cover the lower gorge, nidandaki and sandandaki before 2pm. The 2pm shuttle should take you back into town in time for a quick lunch and to catch the 3:00 or 3:30 express bus back to Hiroshima.

Oni no Shitaburui

Reviewed By dianasftr - Higashihiroshima, Japan

Oni no Shitaburui gorge is the second gorge I have ever been to in Japan. I was really impressed with the scenery, the bridge, the river, also the rocks there. This is the perfect place if you want to relax and see the breathtaking scenery between gorge and autumn in Japan. Really recommended enjoying tea time there <3
