Fleet Air Arm Museum

The Fleet Air Arm Museum will thrill the whole family. Get up close and personal with Europe's largest collection of Naval aircraft and see the first British Concorde. You'll 'Fly' by helicopter to the replica flight deck of the Ark Royal where two enormous projection screens show aircraft taking off and landing. Witness an air sea rescue when a Buccaneer is lost over the side into the sea. There's even a nuclear bomb.Situated alongside RNAS Yeovilton, you may also see aircraft flying in and out.Visit The Fleet Air Arm Museum. The thrill is being there. Opening hours are 10:00 am to 4.30pm Wednesdays to Sundays. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays.

I last visited here as a child with a love or aircraft and so a revisit with a friend has been planned for quite a while. Nicely laid out museum with all the aircraft and exhibits located in indoor hangers (not always the case when large aircraft are the subject!), so a great place for a rainy day. The only unfortunate point is that you need to go outside to a different building for a cafe/restaurant ‘pit stop’. However, I think the rest of the museum has been so well done I haven’t marked down for this. There’s a viewing area to the airstrip outside so you can view live Merlin/Puma helicopters taking off and landing. The highlight is the Ark Royal experience, make sure to leave enough time for this, I’d say 45 mins to an hour as it’s an escorted tour. Hard to explain but a mix of computer simulation and real equipment to give an impression of life inboard the Ark Royal as she was, excellent & v interesting!

A really stunning activity centre in Yeovil. We took our two granddaughters (9&10) this morning for an hour long session - the time flew by for us (observing) and them doing! A really sensible aporoach is given by the instructors with a serious, brief and to the point safety session and then an alertness by the two instructors ensuring continuous safety at the same time making sure the session was fun. The staff were just great and we thoroughly enjoyed a well earned tea, coffee and soft drinks in the on site cafe afterwards. Can’t recommend this Centre enough. Keep up the great work.

We took our two kids for a round of crazy golf and then had a cup of tea afterwards to thaw out. The golf was fun, the kids enjoyed it and the staff at the recreation centre were fun, enthusiastic and nice. Yeah, they served us two cups of tea but when they two ladies in the kiosk did it with smiles on the faces and nice chat it left us having had an even better time.
