I had a 24 hour layover in Seoul and chose this hotel based on the proximity to Seoul Station. From Incheon, the train journey is about one hour to Seoul Station. Fortunately, the hotel is less than a five minute walk from Exit 12. There is a slight hill, but it’s moderate and not overwhelming. The staff were super pleasant and offered to take my luggage up. I declined since I only had a carry-on, but note there is no elevator in this hotel. Don’t expect opulent space. The rooms are compact, but comfortable. As is typical in Seoul, the bathroom includes the sink, shower and toilet - there’s no separation of the shower. I slept comfortably and the streets are quiet during the night. I only paid $40 for the night so it’s certainly easy on the wallet. As far as location, it’s a walker’s dream. Seoul Station connects to high-speed rail as well as metro lines. Myeongdong is about a 30 minute walk from the hotel. There are plenty of eateries around including those at Seoul Station. If you’re a budget traveler or low maintenance, I highly recommend this place.

Disappointed

Reviewed By Megan C

I was pretty disappointed in my stay. I arrived to see that the carpeted floors were all stained and I waited at the front desk for about 10 minutes to get checked in. My room had two twin beds jammed next to each other when the picture showed a bunk bed where there would at least be a little room. The breakfast was just bread and butter. The room was clean though.

Bukchonmaru Hanok Guesthouse

Bukchon Maru Hanok Guesthouse is located in the heart of the Bukchon Hanok residential area in Seoul. Bukchon (meaning North Village in Korean) has the highest concentration of Hanoks, the traditional tiled-roof Korean buildings. We are a family run guest house, having owned this property for over 30 years. Due to its proximity to the local palaces, Bukchon has been home to high government officials and prestigious families of the late Chosen Dynasty, who needed to commute to the local palaces often. The name "Bukchon" was synonymous with status and class in the era no more than 100 years ago. Along with the tumultuous modern Korean history, the quiet neighborhood of Bukchon also underwent significant changes. Modern buildings began to appear, and with the elimination of traditional class system, more and more people swarmed in to the village.

Excellent Hanok experience

Reviewed By Cececececilia

We are a family of three adults staying in the family room. The room is spacious and comfortable. We were able to open all three of our suitcases and still have rooms to move around. The heated floor is very warm and made the room very cozy. A traditional Korean breakfast is included and all the ingredients are homemade by house mama. We stayed two nights and different dishes were served each morning. Both house mama and house papa are very friendly and hospitable. They taught us about Korean culture and the Korean alphabets even though there is language barrier (Google translate is your best friend). They also lent us hanbok (traditional Korean clothing) to wear and take pictures inside the guesthouse. They even pose with us and took pictures with us. Their hanbok are nicer and fancier than many of the ones we saw for rent on the streets. there is an option to rent the hanbok for visiting the palaces but we opted to just take pictures inside the guesthouse. Overall, we had an excellent experience staying at Bukchonmaru. The walk from the subway station is direct and easy and brightly lit at night. We would recommend Bukchonmaru to anyone looking for a cultural experience and some great homemade Korean breakfast. One thing to note is that the guestrooms are on the upper level and there is no elevator. It took some lifting but we had no problem moving our three suitcases up the stairs and into room. Our stay at Bukchonmaru made our first visit to Seoul extra memorable!

Nice but not worth the price

Reviewed By sallytsai

PRO: Nice and clean. Big room for 2 people with nice heated floors during the night. Wifi is good. The host is usually a woman but the day I was there, it was her mom who only spoke Korean. She made nice rice cakes in the morning. There's tea and crackers if you are hungry during the night. CON: Hard to find and not suitable for big luggages. Baby crying and people talking throughout the night with thin walls. Shower is a bit weirdly placed but good heat and pressure. OVERALL: there's nicer guesthouses out there for about the same price.

I was here before Covid19 really hit South Korea, but it wouldn't let me go further back. I stayed around 10 nights in a double room with two single beds ( i was travelling with my best friend ). The location was to DIE for !!! It was way too easy going out in Myeongdong, quickly going back to change or lay down shopping stuff, and then going out again. It's close to shopping, street food, restaurants (even Mcd isn't far away!) and subways + buses. The room was a liiittle small for both people and suitcases, but the beds were very big and comfy, and it's amazing for the price. The make-self food down in the kitchen and the great wifi were also a life savior. + the air condition worked super well to cool us down in the heat.

This is the cheapest motel around the Yeungdongpo area but trust me, spend that extra $20 on the many motels around! This motel has a dirty bathroom where I found pubic hair! The rooms are super tiny and it just feels like a sleazy motel that I couldn't even get a comfortable night's sleep.
