Lovely spring break

Reviewed By Vicki86001

This was our first trip to the DR and we wanted to avoid the large all-inclusive resorts. My husband and I stayed 6 nights with our 14 year old daughter. We stayed in an independent villa with a small plunge pool. We flew into Santa Domingo and hired a diver, Marcos, who Sarah arranged. I would highly recommend doing this. We was an excellent, safe driver and spoke perfect English, but also was very kind in letting me practice my Spanish. He was very tolerant in listening to and answering my husband’s multitude questions. The food at the hotel was very good. We also enjoyed having a kitchen to cook our own breakfasts as needed. It is a short walk to a very lovely beach with calm waters (Playita). A short walk to restaurants and shops if you need to buy groceries or essentials. One day we took an ATV ride to Playa Rincon and Playa Bremmen. I rode with Alfredo from the hotel and my husband and daughter rode on another ATV. Would also recommend doing this day trip. Everyone at the hotel was very friendly, professional, and kind. It would serve you well to know a little Spanish, but all the staff were very patient with my limited Spanish. We felt very safe in the hotel, in the town of Las Galeras, walking to the beach and also at all the beaches. Sarah, the owner was a delight to work with. I didn’t catch everyone’s names, but also enjoyed Alfredo and Luis Miguel. Beautiful grounds and very friendly people everywhere we went.

Quiet little hotel with lovely pool and accommodating staff!

We were just in for weekend. We usually stay at higher end properties in las terrenas but we weren’t looking to spend a fortune and wanted something clean and close to town The property has lots of trees and shady areas to relax. and great pool for after beach. The property needs a bit of power wash and clean up but understood as tourism reopens here that it will take higher occupancies to get hotel looking neat and tidy However. Where is matters , the rooms are very tidy and fun. Bright walls, and great air conditioners and high quality sheets ! The bathroom could use bit facelift. But they Are fine .. better towels would be nice The balcony area definitely needs a fan to help keep mosquitoes away. It was impossible to enjoy a drink out there What shines that most about this hotel is the Lovely and attentive staff. Not overbearing but just the right amount of helpful. Great included breakfast and daily room service but pool side drink service all from what appears to be 3 women team.

Little paradise!

AMAZING PLACE! We stayed at Hotel Punta Popy for our honeymoon and couldn't be more happy about the choice we made. The rooms are exactly as the pictures show: Beautiful, cosy and well-equipped with a lovely decoration. When we arrived we even had fresh flowers in the room :-) The rooms are cleaned every day, also the towels are changed daily. The entire area is in a very well-kept and clean condition. A special mention to the owners, Montse and Jaume. They are wonderful people. Very friendly, helpful and smiling. During our stay we thought of them as friends and we could reach out to them with any question, knowing that they were going to do the best to make us feel right at home. They also gave us a lot of useful information about Las Terrenas and the area around. Their staff is also very kind and helpful. The breakfast was daily fresh prepared by Jaume and Montse - and was suuuuper delicious (especially the homemade marmalade, muffins and fresh pineapple juice)! The whole property is very idyllic and perfect for relaxing. It's a quiet, peaceful little place of earth with beautiful plants and flowers, a nice pool and a small bar with the best Mojitos on the island :-) Plus it's really safe (looked 24/7) and you'll always find someone from the staff there to help you. We liked that it's not directly at the beach but a few metres away so you don't hear the busy traffic. Note for kiteboarders: We went kiting at El Portillo, which is a nice flatwater spot you can reach within 10 minutes by guagua or motoconcho. All in all we highly recommend this place - it's a dream! Thank you, Montse and Jaume! :-)

Beware! Read Carefully! Bring cash! Be ready for the owner!

I have been to the Dominican Republic more then 25 times and have traveled the entire country from one end to the other. I have stayed in many resorts, guest houses, Airbnb‘s all over the island. With that said, the listing for this guest house/hotel/hostel is VERY misleading. The pictures on Priceline clearly show an air conditioner in the room. It does not say anywhere in the listing that your room will not have an air conditioner and that you will have to pay an additional fee for a room with an air conditioner. When you see pictures of a room and there is clearly an air conditioner shown, the assumption is that the room will have an air conditioner. BEWARE, no air conditioner and NO screens to leave the doors open at night. Read ALL of the fine print. And even when you read the fine print when you get to the hotel it is a different story. Upon arrival at the hotel we were told that we were required to pay cash for the entire stay. This is not listed in any part of the reservation. It clearly shows in the reservation that the amount of 50% of the reservation was charged and the other 50% would be due via a bank transfer. This is not the case though. The extremely RUDE owner of this hotel will demand that you pay him in cash. There is NO other way to pay. He claims that he would have to pay too much in tax if he took the money via bank transfer. This has never happened to me before at any hotel in the Dominican Republic. If you say ONE word to the owner, he will huff and puff and follow you around and make your stay miserable. Our bathroom was terrible with sink clogged and broken toilet seat. Slippery floor as water splashes out of the shower everywhere. When I let the owner know that there was no hot water, the man went around and knocked on everyone’s doors and asked them to run the water to see if it was hot. What I was told was that I should let the water run for five minutes and then it will get hot. Whatt?? Ridiculous! We did not want breakfast but ordered coffee. In the middle of drinking our coffee the owner stepped up to the counter and pounded on the counter and in front of everyone said “make sure you know that coffee is a dollar but coffee with milk is $1.50! I was appalled. Don’t stay here! You don’t feel safe with the owner who is clearly a little “off”. There are tons of mosquitoes and no way to get air with no screens. The bathroom doors in the rooms made such loud noise all day and night and were quite bothersome. So many nicer places to stay with owners who will come and offer you fresh fruits from their property and even invite you for FREE coffee. Unless you are French or speak/understand French and can understand what the owner says when he storms around yelling and screaming, DON’T STAY HERE!

so-so

I'm in the minority here. I stayed here quite awhile ago but hadn't gotten around to writing a review. I didn't find Edith very friendly but again I am in the minority. Fata Morgana is far from everything and as a single woman, I wasn't that thrilled about having to constantly track down a motoconcho. There are no signs as to how to get to the place and I found it confusing finding my way back from the beach/town. It wasn't very relaxing because there was a 24 hour bar nearby blasting the same music over and over and over. I loved all the animals that were around. No hot water of course. Kitchen was dirty. I think for visitors who are more adventurous, this would would be an okay place. For me, I found it dirty, Edith kind of unfriendly, and really far from anything.
