Superb Place to Stay in St. Petersburg

Reviewed By andrewsquigley2014

Excellent place to stay in St. Petersburg in a restored grand home. We stayed 4 nights and only regret is that we didn't stay longer. The staff is wonderful, always pleasant and helpful. A wonderful touch that they provide is free ice cream and coffee/tea service in your room at any time. Hotel has a great location only a few blocks from Moscow train station in a very nice neighborhood with many good restaurants within a short walk. The city bus #22 stops a few steps away from hotel with direct service along Nevsky Prospekt and direct to Mariinsky Theatre. This made getting around the center city a breeze.

Kudos to Assembly B&B and Natalia

Simply put: Wonderful Experience!! This was my first trip to Russia and first international solo trip. I can honestly say that without Natalia's assistance and suggestions in planning, I don't think I could have pulled off the trip! From the moment I booked my reservation, Natalia proactively gave me suggestions for an itinerary and other very helpful hints and kept in contact over the months I was planning my trip. She made sure I was taken care of, not only in the accommodation at her B&B, but also in transportation needs and even dinner accommodations :-) She literally thought of everything!! I felt I had my very own travel agent AND translator "at my service" because I don't speak more than 5 words of Russian. Natalia patiently translated for me when I was talking with someone who did not speak English. In addition, she ensured that I had the very best local guide for my tours. Hats off to Valentina (whoop! whoop!) who is also an exceptional wealth of knowledge in Russian history and art and an absolute joy to tour with on daily outings. With the two of them, it was a recipe for an exceptional experience in Russia. I cannot wait to go back (I'm already tentatively looking at dates). Hopefully, next time I can bring my son with me. I know he will enjoy it! With Assembly B&B, I was fully afforded and enjoyed immersing myself in the culture right away. This is exactly what I wanted; to experience Russia via an authentic Russian experience and that is what Natalia's place provided. I was able to experience a historical Russian apartment; very comfortable and clean with plenty of room and privacy. The breakfasts Natalia cooked each morning were delicious! The landmarks to Russian history that one reads about and sees on TV, are within walking distance from Assembly. While staying there, I enjoyed seeing the local market across the street go up and down each day while feeling the energy of the bustling city of St. Petersburg. As others have stated before, I too, feel like I have new friends in St. Petersburg. I cannot stress enough how exceptional this experience has been and highly recommend Natalia, her home and her recommended travel guide(s)! I am so thankful for the opportunity to visit this beautiful country and very thankful for the hard work, diligence and follow-thru that Natalia provided to ensure I had a great experience. "Thank you Natalia!

Quaint hotel close to everything

Like Moscow its cheaper to not stay in the centre of town and enjoy a vibrant local neighbourhood. Its an easy walk across the bridge to the main tourist attractions or stroll to the metro. We had the only room with a balcony overlooking what is aquiet street and park. Room wwas spacious and clean and bathroom had a heated towel rail. There are no english channels on the tv. If you have mobility issues this hotel is not a good choice as there is not lift and all rooms are upstairs. Breakfast is on the ground floor in the Mary restaurant and is ok for a hotel of this size. We ate at the restaurant for other meals a couple of times. Food is excellent but expensive. We are not big eaters and russian portion sizes are not generous but they were shrunk too much here. Got hungry later in the evening and had some instant noodles. A first. By contrast the portions at the georgian next door are gargantuan. A cute place that we woild stay at again because we love the feel of the neighbourhood.

Old Vienna

A both stylish and "home-cozy" place to stay in buisiness class, placed on the first floor of Malaya Morskaya 13/8; this was during the early XXth century a famous restaurant for the Bohemia of the Capital. The walls in "Old Vienna" did see the "Silver Age"of the Russian culture. Here Alexander Block was chosen the king of poets (for more about the history of this unusual place, see the section About ). Our guests have an unusual opportunity to live in the heart of our city in an atmosphere of the beginning of the last century to a most reasonable price. We have fine library for our guests, with memories and works of art from practically all the main characters of the Russian late XIXth and early XXth century culture. All rooms are of higs standard; Of cours all rooms are air conditioned. You can nicely walk to the Hermitage,St Isaacs Cathedral and the Admiralty while enjoying the beauty of the Northern Capital. Everything is close to you. Attention! The entrance is from Gorohovaya Street

Very good location. Very good value. Wifi doesn't work.

Pros: Very good location. Easy access since the entire hotel is located only on one floor just above the ground floor, through only about 18 gentle steps. Comfortable, clean room with clean towels. 24-hour minimart and restaurant within the same building complex. Cons: Wifi never really worked. We also got food smell in our room coming from the kitchen in the late morning. Some staff doesn't speak English, but Google Translate easily fixed that problem.

Offenbacher Hotel

Decadence art, progress and the desire for radical change are the leads of the early 20th century. Time travel bureau Epoque Projects opens a portal to the St. Petersburg of the pre-revolutionary years: the Offenbacher boutique hotel. On the third floor of merchant Yegorov's former apartment building a black-and-white photograph just came to life, and you are about to become part of it. Our cozy rooms are dedicated to the people of art of the Silver age, and the dining room reimagines the charming atmosphere of a pre-revolutionary artsy restaurant. Here you will find a vintage camera, a gramophone and, most importantly, an original Offenbacher piano. Legend has it that Wilhelm Offenbacher himself (who was one of the founding brothers of the firm) sometimes wanders by to see if we treat his instrument well. His anger scares us, so we take good care of the piano. Our rooms provide you with most comfort: a large bed, TV, air conditioning, kettle and a private bathroom with bathrobes and towels. You will have a view upon historic streets of the old city or the famous St. Petersburg 'well' courtyard if you prefer a more quiet stay. The design is mostly monochrome, but each room has its unique colour or architectural feature. You can stay in a room with a balcony facing Vosstaniya street, or with a spacious bay window furnished with wicker furniture under a vintage lampshade, or with a small corner bay window, ideal for romantic evenings and morning coffee. Our dining room is inspired by Cubat restaurant where Sergei Diaghilev, Fyodor Chaliapin and other celebrities of the Silver age used to gather. In our Cubat variety you will be surrounded by plants and the sound of music of the time. Here you can have a delicious breakfast, play chess, study pre-revolutionary posters and photos or choose one of the books in a small library. Of course, we also have WiFi, so you won't lose connection with reality! The dining room is open around the clock, and you can use it before checkin and after checkout, too. You are free to leave suitcases and other heavy luggage securely at the reception, if needed. We work 24/7 and are always happy to attend to any technical troubles or give you advice on what to visit in St. Petersburg. Our hotel is located in the historical centre of the city close to lots of sights and cafes for every taste, so it can be incredibly hard to make a choice! Experience what it was like on the threshold of the upcoming century as a part of the art movement that defies history, questions and changes the ongoing reality.

The Best Hotel to Stay in St. Petersburg!!!

Reviewed By edubife

At first we couldn't find it. Quite hard to find anything in this city. With the help of some passers-by, we finally found the hotel, whose name is written in very small letters, . Stairs to climb up with loads of luggage! After having travelled for 50 days in different places, our suitcases became too heavy! And then... Where was the entrance? It seemed just a building with flats in it. Suddenly, on the 4th floor in a door it was written "Offenbacher Hotel." I mean, the first impression may be weird, but once you put a foot in, you are one beloved guest in a very cosy, charming and lovely hotel. The staff, most of them young people are real professionals, the rooms are comfortable and all of them are decorated differently due to the fact that it's a boutique hotel. Our room had a balcony and it snowed, so imagine how lovely the atmosphere was. Breakfast: amazing!! There's bouffet system with a variety of fruit, tea, pancakes and cereals and biscuits and, also, you have to choose a prepared meal: a lovely gorgeous sandwich, pancake with ice cream and fruit, English breakfast, among others. The dining room is nicely decorated with a piano, pictures of fampus dancers, singers, actors... The location is very good, ten minutes from the main station, half an hour from the top attractions in the centre, buses nearby, supermakets, pubs, restaurants. Apart from falling in love with St Petersburg, we loved being in this hotel. We are immensly thankful to the staff and we hope to go there once again!!
