Total Dissapointment

Reviewed By JoseR1102

I went there once like in 2015 and was OK then. This saturday February 5th I booked for an overnight and I regret having booked there. At first it looked fine, because it had been recently refurbished. It rained overnight and the windows leaked, so next moring I woke up to a flooded floor. The bathroom was refurbished but with poor instalations, the hand shower leaked and the shower cabin leaked to the bathroom floor. Breakfast was horrible, everithing was cold and stale (cold mashed potatoes, cold coffe, cold fried eggs and cold dominican salami). I complained but got no reply. That place sure is on my NO GO LIST.

Nice place to visit, not so pleasant for confort seekers

We stayed at Casa Rural for 2 nights and I must say it was an interesting experience but one we would think twice before repeating. The island itself is great, with nice beaches and postcard-like turquoise waters, so I think it's a must see on your first trip to RD. Sara from Bayahibe (who also owns the Casa Rural) is a very nice person and helped us beyond expectations with the transfer from the first hotel to the third (we stayed at resorts before and after Casa Rural) as well as with any information we needed via email and whattsup. Everything went pretty smooth, no surprises with the transfer. About Casa Rural: it's a truly rural place, very basic (as advertised, actually), the rooms are only meant for sleeping. The tap and shower water is not hot and is salted (I figure it comes directly from the sea). One odd thing is that the bathroom was not entirely separated from the room vertically speaking (the walls were not up to the ceiling), which created a strange feeling when using it. One should bring his/her own toiletries and beach towels (maybe they are available upon request but we were already prepared so didn't ask for any). Food is very simple but good, tasty, no exotic seasoning (eggs, pancakes, fruits etc for breakfast, freshly cooked meals with meat or fish for lunch and dinner), prepared on the spot by Maggy, the lady in charge with the house. We found drinks and snacks available in the village (they charged us 5 usd / large beer and 2 usd / can of juice, which might be a fair price on the island), it was a real pleasure to walk for 10 minutes to go there, which also offers the opportunity to see the large groups of tourists arriving on one-day tours to the island. Local handmade products/souvenirs were available at small shops located close to the tourist area. The beach in front of Casa Rural looks exactly as in the pictures, with hammocks, rough sunbeds, fine sand and nice water. If it wasn't for the the tourists, it would feel like the most peaceful place on earth (lack of cell network or wi-fi included:), so if you seek such a place, you will appreciate the mornings and evenings on Saona Island, which is not possible on a simple one-day tour:)

Just say NO!!

The hotel is just OK but a few MAJOR issues make it a nightmare: : 1) Loud parties on the rooftop that go well into the early morning makes it impossible to sleep. 2) We received a charge of almost $200 on our credit card and we never incurred ANY expenses for the 1 night we were there. The the hotel has been unwilling to provide any details of this erroneous charge and AMEX has also been unsuccessful at resolving this dispute. This is OUTRAGEOUS!!! 3) If you don't speak Spanish, don't expect to be able to communicate with any hotel personnel. We do speak some Spanish and it was still impossible to carry on any conversation or make them understand our concerns.

Penthouse Suite- Long Term Stay 2022- Overall a great stay!

Reviewed By Lina A

Following is my review broken down into key categories: Hosts and Property Management: Daviana (and her husband Manuel) are amazing hosts. Although we did not meet in person we communicated via WhatsApp and /or Airbnb and I found them to be very accessible, pleasant, and accommodating. Any issues we had with the penthouse were taken care of quickly and efficiently. The super host ranking is very well deserved!! Bertho the manager of the property is great. He is Daviana’s property maintenance/manager who lives on the property, and the person who took care of everything that was needed. Location: Chateau del Mar is in a fantastic location, less than 100 steps from the beach. It is also within walking distance of many great restaurants, a supermarket/mini mart and even a small slot machine casino. One important thing to note is that there is A LOT of new builds/ construction around the Chateau making the road a hazard and quite messy. Also, when it rains the road right in front of the Chateau turns into a mini lake. (No drainage /sewers). Do not bring nice shoes as they will be ruined by the dust, mud, and water. The Penthouse: Check in was seamless and love the fact that it is a keypad lock so no need to worry about keys. The star of this property is the rooftop pool terrace. We spent most of our time there enjoying the pool, and the beautiful ocean views. The wicker patio furniture and cushions are not only attractive but also extremely comfortable! The living /dining room/kitchen area is spacious and the huge TV with firestick was great. The kitchen was well equipped for all our needs. The bedrooms are nice with comfortable mattresses and pillows and white crisp bedding that was changed weekly by the cleaning staff. Nice bathrooms with large walk-in showers. What’s Included: Water cooler with 8L gallon of water that is replenished when empty. Just call Bertho and within minutes we had water! Toilet paper, paper towels, dish washing soap and hand liquid soap is supplied on arrival and replenished when needed. Electricity Air conditioners in main living area as well as each of the three bedrooms, that worked well at cooling the spaces. Wi-Fi – which was GREAT! On any given day we had 6 devices on the Wi-Fi with people working remotely, taking video calls and we had no issues at all! What could be improved: Given we loved our stay these are just suggestions that would take it from very good to excellent! The penthouse would benefit from a “refresh”: a fresh coat of paint, fresh caulking on all windows, sliding doors and showers, brighter lighting and/or vanity mirrors in bathrooms, a new toilet in terrace bathroom, railing on pool stairs. The overall building and its staircase could also use a paint job. Also, the laundry room/area could use a “makeover.” Highly recommend!

Italian Lunch at B&B Villa Luna

Reviewed By Jemelle H

While in Bayahibe diving with one of my local friends, we stopped by her friend’s Bed and Breakfast, Villa Luna, for a quick bite. Adele was so hospitable even in the midst of a global pandemic. Both Adele and my friend are Italian so we had a great Italian light lunch of pork and fresh baked breads outside by the pool. Adele doesn’t speak English but she was still very engaged with us, even singing a bit of We Are the World. Maybe the next time in Bayahibe, I can even spend a night here. I definitely recommend stopping by B&B Villa Luna and seeing Adele if you’re ever in Bayahibe!!

Bavaro Punta Cana Hotel Flamboyan

Punta Cana has long been known as touristic destination of Dominican Republic, when you are visiting what better place to stay in, then Bavaro Punta Cana Hotel Flamboyan. Located between White Sands Golf and Plaza Bavaro, you can reach all popular beaches that Punta Cana has to offer, just a step away of Casinos, Golf courses and Shopping malls.

Perfect for a quick overnight!

Reviewed By Emile R

We arrived in Punta Cana with the plan to spend a night and then leave early for our ultimate destination. We didn't want to spend a bunch of money so we looked for something reasonable and found Flamboyan with breakfast included. Reservation was for 2 adults and 1 child. Check in was easy and quick (they have a hand written book like the old days lol). We were told that our child had to pay extra for breakfast, which made no sense since our booking was for 3! Of course they gave us the third breakfast. Breakfast was basic but good (we had omelettes with onion, green peppers, cheese & tomato). You get 1 cup of coffee and have to pay extra for a second ($1)...they don't have orange juice but they offer an oatmeal/lemon juice that is very "Dominican". Service was pleasant and fast!! FYI-TV is always a disappointment, for me, in The DR...As an American, I can say that the average American will always find something to complain about in The Dominican Republic...however, they have all of the basics covered clean, decent bed, hot running water and conveniently priced. With just a little enhancement this could be a great hotel! Happy travels!
