Excellent Location, Value for Money, Exactly what we expected

Reviewed By Judith J

This was our first long haul flight since before the start of the pandemic, having travelled extensively around the world. Upon arrival we were treated to an efficient check in and a rum punch:). The room was exactly if not more than we expected for the price we paid. It was a large room, clean, plenty of towels, in a good location and just a few steps away from the pool. It is not a luxury hotel but in fairness it doesn't advertise itself as one. Some days we did have to ask for towels, coffee and toilet rolls but Hey Ho, this is the Caribbean (and exactly what we needed) as soon as we made the call they were always prompt with their response and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. On our first day we asked for more coat hangers and were asked if we could call back later that day and we could pick them up from there. We completely forgot and when we returned to our room they had been left on the side. The staff behind reception were a delight, my husband mentioned that we were going on a trip and would need clean beach towels in the morning, the reception staff remembered and had clean towels waiting for us! Having the use of all of the Bay Group hotels is a bonus, most days we used the facilities at Bay Garden Resort Inn, sun beds were always available and the guy monitoring was so helpful with a good sense humour. As I mentioned above everything described about the hotel was exactly what "it said on the tin". If you have higher expectations then you need to book one of the high end hotels but miss out on the "real Caribbean"

A perfectly located place of tranquility

Reviewed By etravelcho

My son and I visited St Lucia the first time for some quality time together. We chose Rodney Bay and came across this new boutique hotel. The room was very comfortable, with balcony overlooking mango trees and sea view at a distance. The owners, GM, and the team were excellent. We joined a meditation session taught by the owners. A very refreshing experience! The area was very safe and Rodney Bay was within 5 minutes walk from the hotel. There were lots of restaurants to choose from, either along the beach or along the road parallel to the beach in the neighbourhood. Thoroughly enjoyed our trip and would have no hesitation in recommending it.

Somewhere Special Guesthouse

The host Claudia is a German sea captain and chef. Guestrooms with private bathrooms in the heart of Gros Islet fishing village. Restaurant with ocean view and beach access. Internet/Wifi and Cable TV available. Private tropical garden with beach chairs. Rooms with breakfast for 60 USD or half board for 80 USD per night (double room). Private individual boat charters and tours. A unique experience!

Somewhere Special is not fit for business. The hospitality was appalling and the house is filthy.

I was stranded outside of the guest house for many hours waiting for the owner Claudia to answer her phone and to arrive back to the guest house. There was no response at all. I had arrived at around 4pm which was the expected arrival time. I sat in the bar opposite waiting ,whilst calling and knocking on the door every few hours(there was no reply).By 11pm a man called Sam answered the door.He was very friendly and apologetic. Apparently Claudia's computer wasn't working, so they were out getting it fixed. He said she did not have her phone with her, which is unprofessional.I asked where Claudia was and he said she was sleeping. I started to wonder whether or not Claudia existed. There are 2 cats and a dog that also live in the guest house, which I had no idea about when I booked. I do not like either cats or dogs enough to share a living space with, so this made be feel very uncomfortable. Sam brought me to my room. There were loads of termite droppings in the bedroom and bathroom. I told Sam about the filthy room and bathroom and he said he would notify Claudia the next morning. The next morning my privacy was violated because someone had accessed my ensuite bathroom from the other door which was left open. I felt unsafe knowing that someone had access to getting into the bathroom from the other side. Claudia said that the other door was her bedroom and that she had no idea why it was open and that I shouldn't worry about it. I also showed her the dirty sheets and the unclean bathroom. She said she would clean it(which she didn't do). My cousin landed the evening after me and we packed and left Somewhere Special the following morning. It almost ruined our holiday.

Be cautious before booking

I had a similar experience to the recent 1* review. I had booked to stay at Hotel Chez Marie but had to cancel. I cancelled well within the allotted time however when I reached out to the hotel about my deposit refund they deny ever receiving it. I was able to provide my Visa statement which shows the hotel charging a deposit, as well I provided an email that THEY sent to ME containing the details of the deposit that they charged onto my Visa. Yet, they are still refusing to refund me the funds and say that their bank “cannot find” proof that they charged me. Apparently my Visa statement, as well as an email sent FROM THEM is not enough. I cancelled over 8 days ago and they are still declining to refund me. Be very cautious if looking at booking this hotel. Ensure you get a receipt for everything and get EVERYTHING in writing, though in my case even that didn’t make a difference.

One Rodney Heights: Superb location in Rodney Bay

Reviewed By Chamois_11

This is a block of six self contained apartments each with two airconditioned bedrooms, two bathrooms, laundry room with wc and open plan kitchen dining and living area. It is recently built (2019). The owner lives in the top floor penthouse, so is on hand to offer advice and assistance, if needed. Wifi is included. The location is secure. The real bonus is its location. It is equidistant from the harbour at Rodney Bay and the small town.Road noise between the two rarely intervenes. A supermarket is five minutes' walk and other shops, restaurants and banks are only a little further away in either direction. It's also close to the Harbour Club, a Hilton Resort hotel offering facilites to non residents. Self caterers have a wide choice of eateries at a reasonable price, despite being somewhat restricted due to Covid. Facilities at the property include a pool and a gym. A small welcome starter pack is included, but I'm sure the owner would be happy to provide groceries if given a list. We were given eggs which were in short supply!
