Disappointing stay

Reviewed By p0lly222

We’ve stayed at this hotel a number of times in the past but our most recent visit was v disappointing. There had been changes to the service since we last visited meaning that there was no longer table service and everything had to be ordered at the bar. There was an extremely loud door bell type noise that went off every time the food was ready to be collected which made the place feel cheap and not relaxing. On our second night one of the waiters was very rude in telling us that we must collect our bottle of wine and glasses from the bar. We had ordered at the till and no one had told us to go to the bar for wine in fact the night before it has been brought to us. The waiter pretty much shouted that it’s not table service and that he was ‘too busy’ to bring our drinks over even though there was a maximum of 2 tables in at the time. The venue has gone from a v nice hotel to a cheap pub style service yet the prices have remained high. It is definitely no longer worthy of 4 stars.

Our first stay at a B&B opposed to a cottage, had four great nights at Elder Grove, over the jubilee holiday. We stayed in the junior suite, which was immaculate and a great size for all our walking gear. Matthew is a great front of house, supported by Lucy (the boss) who cooks the best breakfast we have ever had, and we have had lots. We will be staying here again soon..

Fantastic, quiet, peaceful retreat

Enjoyed a 4 night self-catering apartment in Mulberry which is probably the best of the apartments there. The location is fantastic - walk to Tarn Hows is 20 mins and then a plethora of walks from there around Tarn Hows or to Hawkshead or even to Coniston. Derek is very friendly and informative about local walks and routes. Would highly recommend it to anyone like us who needed a 3-4 day break to "de-compress". We will be back - even though we live about an hour away this was like an oasis!

Stunning

Reviewed By robert h

Absolutely beautiful gardens welcome you to the property. The main house is stunning and extremely well presented. We were told it was due a renovation next year but to be absolutely honest I can't see why. We were checked in by the manageress who was very friendly and welcoming. Felt at ease straight away. We had a hideaway room which was spotlessly clean and the large window overlooking the lake was an absolute treat. Breakfast was very good. Great choice of cereals and pastries. The full cooked breakfast was served hot and was very nice. We would highly recommend and can't wait to stay there again very soon.
