I have been going to the Mayflower for years and you will not find any better doughnuts than you find at this place. It's small, it's clean, and it's well run, and doughnuts very reasonably priced.

The Pizza Shack

The Shack Special Pizza. YUM! The gumbo is so-so, but I'm originally from South Louisiana, so it's unfair to compare I guess. Only complaint I have is that the servers are often seen eating in the front, then grabbing your order without washing their hands.

The Hidden Gem

I am back recommending the Gem again. One of the specials this week blew me away! Her Cajun shrimp lettuce wrap with creole rice was a perfect summer treat. Not spicy but well flavored. The crunch of the lettuce combined with the shrimp could not have been better. I also saved room for her buttermilk pie that made my day complete. She has her regular menu, but check The Hidden Gem's facebook page to see the weekly specials.

Fish Pond Restaurant

Reviewed By bureaucrat377 - Coldspring, Texas

We had heard a lot about this place. This is exactly the kind of restaurant we usually seek out. This one, however was a disappointment. In no way does it live up to the hype. The chicken fried steak was not even average. It was very large, the texture was even OK. But the flavor was somehow off. Even dousing it with the excellent gravy couldn't disguise the taste. We were even both HUNGRY, but this CFS just did not make the grade. The mashed potatoes were awesome. Real potatoes, great gravy. Really good. The other sides were on par with the mediocre Chicken Fried Steak. Just not worth the drive out to this place. The staff was nice enough. Now, if they get a cook as good as the wait staff, they're in business. Good-mashed potatoes, gravy, tea, wait staff.
Not so good-Chicken Fried Steak, fried okra, fried squash (the squash was pretty much inedible)., ambiance.
All-in-all, it was a big disappointment. We won't be back.

Los Pericos

Hola! Visiting family in Montgomery, I requested a place with great margaritas. As locals, they lead me to their favorite - here.
The blended margaritas were great, we each had two! The menu featured unique mexican entrees, sides served in unusual yet delicious combinations. Many seafood options too.
And probably the best Chilis Rellenos on the planet, fried to perfection, topped with killer sauce, stuffed with beef and cheese. The platter was huge with enchiladas - any kind, green and red chili sauce, beans, rice and the beloved rellenos! Server was prompt and funny too. They serve some of their sides and sauces in mini tortillas. Southwest Mexican food lovers in Willis must dine here! I will eat here again when in Willis.

Texans BBQ

Reviewed By Jim J - Montgomery, Texas

A typical roadside BBQ. Small dining area, family style seating, traditional Texas BBQ with brisket, chopped beef and pork ribs and sausage. Normal sides eat in or to go. One of vthe best in the county. Prices for sandwich plates with fries at lunch are typical and we enjoy the owners and they're family working the business.
We've been going there for years, in fact picked up an order of ribs for Father's day appetizers. You gotta watch for it on FM830 but we'll worth the stop.

This was my first stop here even though I pass it every day going home from work.

If you would like a good alternative to other fast food burger places then you should definitely take the time to find this place in downtown Wilis. The burgers are very well done and are very juicy.

It is not a huge place and gets crowded quickly but it is worth any wait or elbow brushing with your neighbor. The staff are very friendly and make you feel like they are truly happy you decided to stop in.

Poppy's Seafood Grille

Poppy's Seafood Grille opened in October 2012 by owners Larry and Chris Reichert, bringing cajun style cuisine with a Texas flair to the Willis area. With the desire for the customer to have an experience and not just a meal, they created a warm friendly atmosphere using a nautical theme with old wood and tin to reflect the Texas Gulf Coast. With a love for good quality food and the desire to see people enjoy a mouth watering, eye catching meal, Poppy's offers its customers entrees prepared with great attention to detail to every plate that goes out of the kitchen. A friendly staff serves our generous portions of seafood classics, such as our fried catfish and shrimp, that are prepared and cooked per order. The menu also includes such southern favorites as jambalaya, "Texas" creole, red beans and rice, poboys, and gumbo. Poppy's own unique appetizers, "Bouchee Rolls" and Corn-eatas, keep customers coming back for more.

We were at a Timeshare and asked for a good place for seafood. She said try Poppy's.
The place was busy and the parking lot full. The seafood excellent. There are a lot of selections to chose from. Burgers, salads, chicken, and of course seafood. It is worth the visit.
