La Ciottolona is a small restaurant with a shady cool garden and pool (don't forget your swim wear) :)The menu is based on the "slow food" movement with local ingredients and tasty surprises such as lemon in the tortellini and capers with anchovies in the vinegar they serve within the slices beef (tagliata di manzo). They also serve a refreshing white wine which goes great with the garden setting under the grape vines. The manager is super friendly and will make you feel at home in his restaurant.

We enjoyed dining at this out of the way restaurant. The weather wasnât perfect so we sat indoors. The large vaulted dining room had a warm atmosphere. As others have said, this is slightly finer dining than other restaurants weâve eaten at in the area. The parmigiana melanzane starter was tasty if a ârefinedâ portion . The slow cooked chicken was good too. The chocolate tart desert was good but more like a chocolate cake. Service was friendly and efficient.

Not a lot of choices in small town, however this restaurant is very good. Deserves higher rating in town. It is important that you can park there as places difficult in town. Follow signs or ask a local. Generous portions of delicious food, cheerful service, small place with just a few tables, obviously favored by locals. So much better than high rated bistro galli, has varied menu and terrific, cheerful service. Dei galli pretty and well placed, but food bland. This is quite good.

We booked ahead as quite a busy restaurant. It is situated on quite a high hill past the village of Orgia.As stated parking about 100m below the restaurant.The views are fantastic. Lemon chicken was very nice, the pork fillet was good.However service could have been better, probably due to how busy it was. Greeted very abruptly, took plates whilst others were still eating, asked for the bill 3 times over a 25 minute period.We paid the cover charge and the service charge, but in hindsight wish I hadnât. However we are English - ingrained not to cause a fuss!!!

want something good & with a little more variation to the traditional tuscan menu...well this is the place to go. Have been visiting and working near here over the last 10 years and found this treasure when searching the area. The lovely maitre d is Dominic and her swiss born mother cooks...do try the drunken chicken and the mushroom & chickpea soup..sounds better in Italian, funghi e ceci..oh and the chocolate dessert. ! its a delightful place to find good fare and wine with great hosts..we named it 'dont touch the baby' and as a precurser as them how that came about. have fun.. Thirteen of us had lunch at La Grotta and it was a delightful experience. Excellent house wine and bottled water were on our tables as soon as we arrived.We had a set menu because of the size of our group starting with fresh garden salad, followed by the best fried vegetables. Next came malfatti or gnudi, little round balls that would normally be wrapped in a ravioli pasta.Dessert was a delicious mascarpone slightly sweetened.Service was very good and the price was very reasonable.Highly recommended

You might need to be a dedicated traveller if you were to set out specifically to find this little treat, but if you are in Tuscany and visiting the old Abbey at San Galgano, then make the effort to look in and have a meal or a snack. It is accessible immediately off the road, but more interestingly accessed via the hill climb from the Abbey up to the church and then down a small track to the bar. It is signed and not too difficult to locate or get to. There is a terrific shop attached selling all sorts of local produce and some very good local wines. Also the range of available meats and cheeses are well worth a try.The menu is quite reasonable, the proprietor very helpful and the food well made and presented. This was a delightful find and I would recommend it to any traveller in the region.

This restaurant is a trattoria bonded to an agro-tourisic farm.They have some rooms to rent and they cook simple home food using their own vegetables and cereals to make fresh pasta and they sell their own wines.The quality is good but nothing really special.The service is very slow and you have to ask twice for what you need but, after having visited the nearby wonderful abbey, you can be more patient.

Had a nice antipasti and secundari both with wild boar. It was pretty quiet when we had dinner (late in the season on a thursday), but the food was all worth it. My girlfriends pasta was pretty 'dente', but that seems to be the Italian standard, that we still need to get used to ;-). Mind you; Pizza's are only available on Saturdays and Sundays!Thank you for the good judgment, but just for the tranquility that you have found, you need to understand that the pizza needs so many not two or three requests.In fact, in pizzerias there is always a lot of confusion.Best regards

We were staying in a villa (La Pergola) at the top of this hamlet about 300 metres away and it was wonderful to have this restaurant in walking distance. We ate here three times in the week we were here. The service is friendly, attentive and as fast as you want it to be. The food is excellent, freshly prepared and copious, with excellent pizzas (availabilable evenings only). The menu is broad enough for a small place with plenty of options for two vegetarians among us. The terrace is a pleasant arbour with sunshades and the interior a typical old tuscan stone building with a covered veranda. The service is excellent (the restaurant was not crowded at the times we were there). We had two/three courses, house wine and bottled water and the bill never came to more than 25 Euros per head.
