Stopped here for an evening meal and certainly made a good choice from all the hotels on Moffat's High Street. The service was prompt and friendly and our waitress (think her name was Skye?) couldn't have been more polite or welcoming, she deserves a pay rise! The meal itself was well presented and everyone enjoyed their choices. I'd highly recommend The Stag, we'll certainly call back if we're passing again.

The fish and chip shop is joined on to this hotel, i don't know who owns it but it wants shutting down. The fish was ok the batter terrible, but the chips were utterly inedible, grey shrivel up cold excuse for chips. Went straight in the bin. The chips must have been cooked at dinner time if not earlier and reheated. These were not fit to feed to a dog never mind human beings. My advice is keep well away

Although we had visited Moffat many times, this was our first visit to the Annandale Arms restaurant My starter of Cullen Skink was excellent and the portion was just right. For our main course, my partner chose the fifth and chips and again, itâs was cooked and presented perfectly. I had the flat iron steak with chips, and two sides of peas and mushrooms. The taste was superb.Service was good and the girls who waited on our table were friendly and attentive.The prices are good as well and I have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant whatsoever.

We had a lovely sandwich lunch in the Rumblin Tum cafe in the main street of the lovely old town of Moffat. Had we stayed longer we would have returned for dinner. Serves breakfasts, hot meals & light lunches, also wines & beer. Great find - plenty of room, very clean & the staff were really friendly.

We were unsure where to eat when on an overnight stay in Moffat. Places we looked at seemed quiet then we stumbled across this hotel. It was busy which was encouraging and as we walked in it seemed cosy and inviting. Staff were very friendly which is important and we felt very welcome here. I had the macaroni cheese and it was fantastic. I never thought anything could eclipse the macaroni cheese served on Calmac Ferries but the Star Hotelâs did!! My partner had the beef burger and was also impressed with the quality of the meal. So, in summary, great food, old prices and friendly service. I would return if I was back in the area.

The soups here are always very tasty and homemade, the choice when we visited was Ham Hock and lentil and leek and potatoe, chose the first and it was very tasty with big pieces of ham in it. The filled rolls are very good as well and filled to bursting with lovely fresh ingredients, got cheese salad and it came with salad garnish as well, lots of cheese and salad was not just boring lettuce and tomatoe only. The cakes also are very good in this cafe but didn't have room for one unfortunately.

I have called in this cafe several times over the years going to and from Northern Scotland but sadly it has changed hands and has now become very popular with dogs and their owners. Unfortunately I prefer to eat a meal without the smell of wet dogs and their barking and yapping. I accept that dog lovers might love the place but sadly for me and my family there will be no repeat visit. The food and service were adequate.

If you are in Moffat I would recommend stopping off here for a cocktail. The bar itself has vintage touches and lovely comfortable armchairs. Great selection of gins and tonics. I was driving and was delighted that they had an alcohol free Gordon's 'gin and tonic' - the grapefruit one was excellent. Very large goblet glasses meant the drink lasted a while too and £10 for 2 drinks (one alcoholic) was fair (with a nice bowl of crisps on the side!). Staff were very nice and advised on the menu. I hope to return.

Locals are truly blest to have a restaurant of this quality on their doorstep. We were stopping one night in Moffat on the way north, and checked with Trip Advisor for the best place to eat. We phoned the Limetree and got a table. It's fairly small, not many tables, so I guess it's difficult to get a booking in high summer. Definitely not a place to turn up to on spec.The food is excellent - cannot be faulted in any respect. Not a huge number of choices, but everything cooked to order. The wine list is fine, and the service is friendly and very professional. If the residential side of the business is as good as the restaurant, then Hartfell house must be the place to stay on our next visit to Moffat. Highly recommended.
