20 years ago Il Capanno was a simple, country trattoria offering typical Umbrian dishes - good value but nothing exceptional. A change of generations brought a change of direction - to move up-market and offer something more ambitious on the menu. It has to be said that for several years ambition outstripped execution but Il Capanno has now found its feet and offers something different in Umbrian cucina - light, imaginative dishes, beautifully cooked - one of the best restaurants in central Umbria and still good value. Ten minutes south of Spoleto just off the Via Flaminia.

We came upon the Grottino del Nera in Arrone, near the Cascate delle Marmore (sp?), after driving the beautiful Valnerina route from Spoleto. All four people in our party loved our lunch there: we had great lentil soup made from the tiny Castelluccio lentils (the chef gave us the recipe, when we asked, in our far-from-perfect Italian), and very good insalatoni (big salads; try the one called Pixie). The walls in the main dining room were filled with lovely paintings by local artists, as well as historical black-and-white photos of the location in the past 100 years. So I have to wonder if the other review ("tasteless interior design") was referring to the same restaurant--maybe it has two locations? During our 12 days in Italy, this trattoria ended up ranking among the top three we encountered for an authentic, local experience. It's not formal or fancy, but the food was awesome and we were treated in a most friendly way.

Wonderful lunch. Very friendly staff, especially with our very limited Italian! Food absolutely wonderful. They did pasta with tomato sauce for the kids, no problem. Grilled trout was brilliant and tagliata ( grilled steak with rocket salad) was exceptional. Very reasonable with lovely wine. We have had many great meals in Italy but this has to be one of the best - if not THE best. Oh .... And the views are stunning too!!! My 9 year old son said this is the best restaurant he has ever been to and he has travelled a lot( praise indeed!)

Very large restaurant. Mostly seems to cater to local families and larger groups. Most tables seemed to eat pizza or relatively low priced stuff, and jug wine. Even though there is excellent local wine, from Montefalco, which we recommend.While service is nice, with tablecloth etc., this is actually a relatively inexpensive place, not really fine food. Still, good value for the money, but reading some reviews here, one might end up with unreasonable expectations...We had a fiorentino steak. Which was quite impressive when it arrived at our table, and we mananged to finish the whole thing. Not bad, but we have had better. We ordered rare, but it came a bit more cooked than I had expected. Still, if in the area, this is a very acceptable option for dinner, especialyl at the price.

This place was recommended by the desk clerk at the Garden hotel in Terni. Her directions were somewhat incorrect as she said it was right by the waterfalls; however, it was actually about 8 km past the water falls...so keep going when you see the waterfalls. The owner greeted us at the door and seated us promptly. There are about 15 tables total and just about everyone was filled. Very nice atmosphere and service. Menus are available in English as well as Italian. Excellent antipasti, first and second plates and dolce. Definitely a first-class dining experience at a reasonable price!

we arrived quite early, so the restaurant was not open yet: kitchen was not ready. But we could have a proseco on the terrace, with so chips, olives and brushetta. that was really nice. we had the pasta vongole (fresh pasta) and our girl had a nice pizza. Price is really good! it was nice to see the kids fishing in the little lake. staff is very friendly

There are too many words to say about here. But also the is just one word. "Perfect!" . Excellent atmosphere. Excellent menu ( try ravioli mozzarella with black truffles) ( also dessert) . Excellent dishes. Excellent staff ( smile faces, very fast service ) . Excellent bill ( they also make some discount without ask, and really good prices ) . I will go again and again as soon as possible . Enjoy

Enjoyed this restaurant. Very accommodating. Went with family members that live in Ferentillo (a nearby town) and returned twice on our own. Very reasonably priced and great food. Service was excellent even though my Italian is not quite good yet.

I have been in Piermarini few times with my family, and guests from abroad. The restaurant is set in a great scenery, hidden in the peaceful Valle Teverina, it has a lovely garden and swimming pool. The best moment to visit restaurant is spring/summer when you can dining alfresco and enjoy the meal whilst still soaking up the surrounding atmosphere of the valley. The food is absolutely michelin star standard, ordering has never been an issue as everything I tasted at Piermarini has always been so delicious. The specialties of the restaurant are all truffles based, which is found in the local area, famous for truffles. Highly recommended for experiencing local products with a refined touch.

The Restaurant is very conveniently located near town center. Gem of a building, interior decor and excellent service. We were with a group of 15 with fixed menu.
