We called in for a drink and a bite to eat...unfortunately our food was just awful...considering it wasn't busy I don't think the chefs were under pressure, mine was so bad I left it..bacon and brie salad full of leaves , no dressing , undercooked fatty bacon, weird small cubes of brie about six pieces...no flavour at all, ......my partners sandwich was so poor , dry, without mayo or other sauce , a bit of 'salad on plate no dressing either , he ate it as he doesn't like complaining! Disgrace!

Hara

Set in the lovely village of Hillsborough, in rural county Down and named after the hare, hara is a reflection of the countryside around it. Working closely with local farmers and growers, chef owners Andy Turner and Roz Allen have an impressive pedigree

Was trying to find somewhere nice for lunch and remembered reading about here in local paper and wasn't disappointed. Only wanted something small but that didn't matter as service was excellent and nice atmosphere. The corn fed chicken dish was to die for, roasted individually and worth the wait. Will definitely be back for more. Very reasonable for the quality.

Ashvale Farm Shop

The first waitress, long dark hair and swarthy skin, came over and took the order which arrived promptly.I requested skimmed milk but semi skimmed arrived as apparently they don’t do skimmed milk! Pity the waitress didn’t know! My scrambled eggs were swimming in water and were so close to white they looked like porridge. The second waitress was so helpful and pleasant and took them away to remove the water. They returned just the same so the waitress offered to drain them herself. She obviously did her best but they still had water in them. Completely tasteless! However the other three meals were very good with no complaints.I watched the first waitress look at our empty plates and didn’t bother to clear the table, leaving it for the next available waitress. This same waitress sat and chatted with a customer while my friend stood waiting to order afternoon tea. She ignored my friend, let her stand about and only acknowledged her when I approached. Not much work in this woman and personality minus! Lucky the rest of the staff were lovely.Thank you for your feedback. We pride ourselves on the quality of our coffee. In order that the natural fats in milk are not burned during the process of heating/ frothing milk, it is imperative that only semi and full fat milk are used to ensure quality. We do this under the advise from the roastary from which our coffee beans are harvested and supplied. E.g. Skinny Latte (semi skimmed milk)Latte (Full fat) We apologise for the misunderstanding, but hope we have provided more clarity for you surrounding this issue. We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your scrambled eggs. The next time you visit please make yourself known and we will aim to provide you with breakfast on the house. As for our waitresses, in order to ensure the smooth running of the tea room, each one, whilst perhaps unbeknownst to our customers is playing a different role. For example one will be responsible for orders, another for drinks and cutlery, another for clearing tables and so forth. Each one will endeavour to see to your needs within their role as quickly as possible. With regards to your final comments, as well as being a Tea Room, our business has a great number of patrons who become more than simply an order to us. it is not uncommon for our staff to briefly chat to such patrons, as a matter of fact, we feel it is an important part of their job. We trust that it is evident that we are a small family business who value a personable approach. Finally should you wish to book an Afternoon Tea this must be booked in advance by telephoning 02892638099 or by booking at the till area located near the entrance. Regards,Team Ashvale

Offered a discount off dinner as part of our stay at the Larchfield Estate - 10%.We were a group of 7 birding friends, 3 visiting from Preston, England. The craic was great, the food tremendous, catering well for a gluten-free member, & the service superb. The wine menu was good, with plenty of options; we had a wonderful Portuguese red.Overall everyone was thrilled with the venue, the food & the service. Taken to the Gilmore restaurant for dinner on my birthday, we had a secluded table in a friendly atmosphere. The service was efficient and extremely attentive. We had an excellent meal. I can recommend the prawn cocktail starter; actually I can recommend everything about the meal! The outside lighting is very attractive too, best appreciated at night.

Primrose

I recently had dinner in The Primrose with my family. From start to finish the staff were helpful, attentive and just a pleasure to deal with. The food was incredible. The prawn salad is a must try! Along with the desserts which were to die for! I’m just gutted I didn’t order a starter! my two daughters, who are super fussy eaters, thoroughly enjoyed their meals and the snowman ice cream desserts were a big hit. I can’t wait to go back and I have been telling everyone who will listen that this is an all round fantastic establishment. Prices were the cherry on the cake! Reflected the food nicely. Fantastic all, keep up the amazing all round great work! hopefully see you again soon.
