Historically in Westmorland, it is situated about 8 miles (13 km) south-east of Windermere, 19 miles (31 km) north of Lancaster, 23 miles (37 km) north-east of Barrow-in-Furness and 38 miles (61 km) north-west of Skipton. The town lies in the valley or "dale" of the River Kent, from which it derives its name, and has a total resident population of 28,586, making it the third largest settlement in Cumbria behind Carlisle and Barrow-in-Furness.

Have visited a couple of times - great food. Especially like the fish pakora, samosa chaat (unusual) and chicken xacutti. Not rating for the building/atmosphere/service just the lovely food.

Really great food and superb service. The staff could not do enough to accommodate. The food was extremely tasty. The staff even took requests for music which made the experience even better. First visit to Mumbai and probably the last. I can forgive tired, unimaginative decor. I can forgive the chaotic atmosphere in the front part of the restaurant as the premises is small and there's no room for people to wait to be seated/to collect takeaway when the restaurant is full. What I can't forgive is unfriendly staff. I felt like a hindrance rather than a guest.This place is far too expensive for the quality of the dishes it serves. The best thing was the poppadoms and pickle tray, although this was over a fiver which is just ridiculous. The lamb was chewy and gristly, not slow cooked and soft as you'd expect. The rice hadn't been seasoned and was overcooked. Everything was laden with coriander, which I like very much but was too much even for me. The tarka daal was a lovely texture but again under seasoned and under spiced, and the huge lump of lemon in the dish made it too acidic and masked any other flavour.The restaurant was really busy on the saturday night I visited and takeaway orders being sent out all the time, so it's obviously a popular place but I must admit that after our experience I can't understand why.

I personally LOVE any Indian takeaway/restaurant but I must say other Indians in Kendal have disappointed me in the past, this place however never has! Their dishes are so tasty and huge portions for not a lot of money! Staff are so helpful and friendly and I especially like the fact that at Christmas time they give out Christmas cards to all their customers, lovely little touch! Couldn't recommend this place enough :)
