The food in Ecuador is outstanding! This was a surprise to me, as I had planned to lose weight on this trip. The bread, butter and desserts are to die for, and this restaurant is very good. Know that service is slower in Latin America than in the USA, but that is a good thing--time to enjoy!

I've gone there several times for dessert, coffee, and drinks. The chocolate silk pie is amazing, as is the coffee. Their cheesecake, other pies and ice cream are all delicious as well. I haven't had a full meal there but am told that the food - homestyle menu items - are very good. They have a fun Seating area upstairs which is partly outdoors, though still covered, with lights which is a great atmosphere for couples of larger groups. Each table is covered in brown paper with crayons for coloring; entertainment for kids and grownups alike.

We had an enjoyable visit to Chef Tiff chocolate shop. We were treated to a presentation of how some chocolate goodies (chocolate with fruits and nuts) were made and were given information on the entire chocolate making process from the beans to the byproducts. We initially decided to skip this shop in order to save time for other places but were glad that we did not. We eventually ended up buying chocolate bars and cocoa butter as presents. To be noted is that they sell chocolate bars with 100% cacao content (no sugar, for the more health conscious) and 80% bars mixed with ingredients such as quinoa and nuts. Great visit if you can spare 30 minutes to an hour.

A beautiful Italian trattoria outside of Quito and very close to the new international airport. Perfect place for families, the pony rides are available for kids, and it was great to see our children enjoy so much riding the locanda's pony "Caramella", the staff is very helpful and nice, excellent food! I highly recommend burrata con prosciuto and ravioli! For the kids pizza is a great option!
I would recommend to reserve because it's usually fully booked.

The restaurant has a nice atmosphere. The menu is extensive & had a wide variety of foods. The prices are reasonable. I had the bife de chorizo, which was an Argentine steak. It was a nice large steak cooked to perfection. The steak was a little tough but it was tasty. My friend had the pasta mar, whick looked & tasted great. The salads looked great. The meat lasagna was excellent. Worth a visit.

We were disappointed. Service is no longer great. A confused team of waiters couldn't get the orders right. I NEVER saw someone responsible for the service. It took a long time, orders were confused with the table next to ours, two of us had to wait too long, and even the check had mistakes. Is there an owner or manager? We didn't see anything even close to one.
Food itself wasn't what it used to be.
Price went up while quality in food/service went down.
It is still a fun place for kids.

This place has an amazing ceviche. We tried the 3 mix ceviche, crab, shrimp, and fish. It was absolutely delicious. As our entrees we had fried fish which did not come out fried and was extremely dry and disappointing. Also had the shrimp aijollo another disappointment just no flavor even though the sauce that accompanies it was tasty both dishes were served with tostones. I was a bit disappointed it was about a 20 minute 15 dollar cab ride from our hotel. And our expectations where high after how amazing the ceviche was.

Paramo Brauhaus

Reviewed By James M - Pensacola, Florida

I was introduced Paramo Brauhaus as a result of trying their weissbier; the weissbier was comparable to and even better than some of the Munich Breweries. Also, I had just come to Ecuador after two months in Germany and Paramo Brauhaus might as well have been plucked from Bavaria and gently laid down in Ecuador.
The atmosphere is very laid back and friendly as is the staff while still remaining professional. The Brauhaus could easily play host to a group of friends celebrating, a large family, or anyone who loves good beer or Bavarian cuisine.
I enjoyed a jägerschnitzel that was excellently prepared and has been one of my favorite jägerschnitzels thus far. The fries had a nice Latin spice which resulted in a deliciously interesting fusion of Bavarian and Ecuadorian flavors.
The beer was simply wonderful; the pale ale was the best pale ale I have ever tried and I am no stranger to beer. The other offerings were thoroughly enjoyable as well; the bock is definitely worth a try. During my visit, they had a doppelbock which was very good; it is highly advisable to ask about the seasonal or temporary offerings.
Also, the owner Ooli(sp?) is very amiable and friendly. It was very nice to here his story and to discuss the finer points of craft beer with him.
I highly recommend visiting the Paramo Brauhaus for a nice Bavarian meal and some delicious beer. It is well worth the trip from Quito.

Al Mercato

Reviewed By SARAGUEV - Japan

This is a small restaurant with capacity for nearly 45 people, well located in Orellana street in Cumbaya. Although booking is not required it is better to call specially during weekends (Friday night, Sat and Sun).
The place is clean and decoration simple. Has a very small patio with some basic tables. Restroom consists in one all gender.
One of the problems I found [that's the reason for 3 stars] is that they don't provide a written menu so the client must choose from a list the waiter explains very fast without knowing the price of the dishes. Food was good.
Tip: If you are the kind of client who prefers to know how much to pay, this is not the best place. It would be very uncomfortable to interrupt the waiter after he explains every entree, dish, dessert or drinks to ask for the price. You may not have the time to think carefully about the dish you would really like and you will end up asking for any choice.
I don't know what they do in case of non Spanish speakers... I wonder if they can explain the menu as fast as they do it.
Our bill was USD50.82 (1 salad medium size + 2 frutti di mare pasta (medium size) + 1 soda drink + tax and service.
