This picturesque Umbrian city has a history that spans many eras. The city wall and arch are Etruscan; the sixth-century Sant'Angelo church was built atop a Roman temple; the town's cathedral is both Gothic and Renaissance. If you have a sweet tooth, visit the famous Perugina chocolate factory; if you have a full set of sweet teeth, visit during the Eurochocolate festival, held in October, when the entire town reportedly smells of chocolate.

The project of this trattoria was born with the intent to showcase the beautiful and the good of Umbria valorizing the territory in its complexity: with the support of the Municipality of Perugia, of the Academy of Fine Arts “Pietro Vannucci”, of the University of Flavors, of the Associazione Italiana Sommelier and the Academy of Umbria countryside herbs, as well as dozens of private Companies that have embraced the project. From the hand-sewn linen placemats to furnishing details with ceramics from the four areas of excellence, from the great extra virgin olive oils from 5 sub-zones of the PDO to the plants of the garden ... everything has been designed to offer an experience connected with traditions and the quality of life that Umbria offers. Among the peculiarities is the creation of an application that allows you to know the history of typical products, the Panorama of the production companies, things to do and see in cities and Umbria. Excellence in food and wine, in artisan, artistic and cultural heritage while staying in an affordable price range.
We discovered this restaurant whilst exploring Perugia during yesterday so returned for a meal last night. We shared a platter of cold meats and bread, could have done with olive oil and vinegar though. Then I had lamb chops delicious just the right sixe portion, my husband had aubergine bake. We had a super bottle of wine shared a chocolate dessert and for nished with coffee....well worth the visit.

We had a wonderful lunch starting with a beautiful antipasto. Primo was a fantastic pasta with guanciale and zuccini and secondo was Chianina and ciccoria. Our waiter served us a wonderful local Sangiovese which was perfect. We will be back...!

Our Restaurant proposes a rich menu and abundant dishes influenced by traditional Umbrian cuisine. Fresh homemade pasta, meat bought from farmers in the area or raised directly by us, vegetables grown on our land and numerous sweets. Our Chefs never get tired to propose traditional recipes passed down to them from their grandmothers, in a modern presentation, where tradition meets passion. For this reason, our dishes are rich with love and are meant to intensify the flavors so that you will surely have a unique culinary experience! You will be able to choose from the à la carte menu or a tasting one- in either case, you could accompany your meal with a good Umbrian or national wine chosen from our wine cellar, or try a good Umbrian beer. In the warmer seasons, you will be able to eat outdoors, under the stars, and take in the magnificent landscape that nature offers. Our aim is not only offering you a special tasting experience, but also to make you feel at home. For this reason, if you have any food intolerance or special requests, we are ready and willing to satisfy your needs, as will the kitchen be available to you for the preparation of meals for your little ones.
My husband and I decided to give this place a go as it had such good reviews. We booked a table and good job too as it was packed with locals.
On arrival we were given a small dish in a jam jar which was very nice as we looked at the menu. We completely forgot about the advice to only have one course and promptly ordered pasta and then the piglet cooked in rosemary. We were amazed when a very large plate each arrived of antipasto full of meats, salami, melon, chicken livers in a basket, potato cakes etc. by the time we had eaten that we were stuffed and a little confused until the waiter explained it was on the house.
Our pasta came and we ate our way through that but by the time the main course arrived we were so full we sat there picking at it.
We also had 2 litres of water and a bottle of white wine. The total meal came to 54 euros. A complete bargain.
If you get chance, make the trip and eat here but please only order one course.

We booked lunch for nine of us; online booking was easy and very efficient. Finding the Relais wasn't so easy (ignore Google maps and follow the brown road signs to the Relais instead) but once discovered, the situation is pleasant with some good views, despite being near Perugia Airport. We had a drink overlooking a pretty swimming pool and garden and ate inside where the waiter was attentive and helpful. Food was a little slow in coming but good and beautifully served. It was quite expensive - the bill came as a total without any breakdown of different courses, wine etc. That should be changed.

"Il Caldaro" is a charming restaurant. The chefs create original, as well as centuries old local Umbrian recipes, using the finest fresh ingredients. This also includes handmade pizza cooked in wood pizza oven.
This restaurant was off the beaten track--great for lunch after a wine-tasting at Vineria del Carmine--only a few minutes away and worth the visit! We had excellent tasty first courses--not your everyday Italian recipes...very refreshing to find an unusual treatment of pasta! My husband also had a second course and enjoyed the pork. The decor was very elegant and the service was friendly and efficient...I'll definitely return if I'm ever in the area!

This place was right around the corner from my hotel. Whenever I passed by, there was always a line-up. I decided to grab lunch here on my last day in Perugia. You see the owners freshly cut your meat and cheese right before your eyes. One of the best sandwiches I ate during my travels in Italy.

This small restaurant is not particularly inviting, set on the main road from Ponte Pattoli to the motorway and not much has been done to make it confortable inside or in the drafty conservatory.
Food also is just OK as the tagliere of ham and cheese is just decent with no special quality slices and the main course (fish with olives) was a complete shamble (too salty and served as a soup).
Sixty euros for this was certainly too much and only cash was accepted.

Borgomela Restaurant is THE PROJECT OF A FAMILY is the place where the pleasure of good traditional eating meets the warm and friendly atmosphere of home. The dishes are characterized by the use of simple high quality ingredients, following seasonal pattern to better meet the criteria of freshness and genuineness'. Particular attention should be paid on pasta, bread and desserts, all homemade. The "pasta first dishes" reminiscent of the forgotten flavors that so characterize the regional cuisine, poor but very rich and tasty in its flavors. In main dishes alternate roasts, grilled meat selected from the territory. The Borgomela menu also includes a selection of cheeses and sliced meats "affettati" served on special boards that favor the tasting. The wine list mainly includes wine labels wineries in Umbria. And 'Reservations are preferable, like true landlord, we want to our guests to have the best experience ever.
Loved this little place. A little off the beaten track but worth the trip out. Staff were welcoming, service attentive and food delicious. My chocolate fondant for dessert was just divine. Would certainly return if in the area again and definitely recommend to others.Dear Hufflepuff33, thanks for your review, we are happy you loved our chocolate fondant and thanks for recommended us to others.
