Massa [ˈmassa] listen (help·info) (Emilian: Masa) is a town and comune in Tuscany, central Italy, the administrative centre of the province of Massa and Carrara. It is located in the Frigido River Valley, near the Alpi Apuane, 5 km (3 mi) from the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Il Trillo was a surprised and one that I would like to experience over and over again. Somewhat hidden in a non-descript residential area in what felt like the outskirts of Massa it first surprises you with its wonderful Terrace. Dominated by its lemon trees (and avocado-sized lemons) it is simple and warm yet elegant and tasteful.
The food is supreme and everything is made on the spot. I asked for a modification to the recipe as I am vegetarian and no-one had even to check with the chef. It's clear that when you cook meals from scratch from fresh ingredients on site the flexibility is only limited by the cuisine's willingness to accommodate (which in il Trillo's case is great).
Pumpkin soup is worth a detour and even the vegetable tempura had something special; such a light batter.
Service is spotless yet personal and the wine list while not at par in terms of choice with other Michelin - starred restaurants it has good names and you will find something that you like.
There were six of us for dinner, 2 Italians and 4 foreigners and we have all been raving about our visit for the past 10 days.

We came in a large group on a busy evening. The place looks a bit like a flea market mixed with a house boat.
While the food was very good and creative, the service came to its limits. Although they offer also pizza (which comes from the restaurant opposite the street) it was a certain problem to order them for the kids, but after a while the service agreed to bring it over. Having mediocre service is always reflecting on the general impression, so all in all the evening was ok, not more.

Finalmente(incuriositi dalle tante recensioni positive)dopo aver Gia provato la pizza,ci siamo fermati in questo locale per cena e per provare il pesce.Specifico subito che la locanda è un luogo basico e va contestualizzato.Non aspettatevi un ristorante di livello altrimenti rimarrete subito delusi.Altro consiglio è quello di andare durante la settimana perché il sabato facilmente si incappa in tavolate numerose e l'acustica non è ottimale.
Detto questo,il personale è squisito e gentilissimo.Offrono una focaccia calda fatta al momento veramente invitante.I piatti.. Primi discreti (penne all'astice e gnocchi al granchio)ottima la grigliata di pesce.bene il sorbetto.
Abbiamo accompagnato il tutto con un candia locale(valido).Magari consiglio al personale una qualche scelta in più sui vini.
Conto onestissimo!!!60euro in due...
Torneremo e proveremo altro pesce (abbiamo visto passare delle catalane invitanti).

Super friendly young waiter. Explained every dish properly. All dishes from area, very tasty and well combined! Famous antipasta. Veggies with cheese. Small pig with mushroom potatomix... Fast service and always checking if everything were ok. Perfect italien atmosphere sitting on the pavement/street...

This is a typical Greek Tavern with delicious food, especially fresh meat, good variety of appetizers and very good Uzo. The restaurant is family managed and the service is excellent. Location is perfect, few km from the city center. I would suggest you better make a reservation before jumping there, because you might risk to find the restaurant fully booked.

It was an absoulutley fantastic atmosphere with fantastic people and an absolutley delicios meal!!!
The hosters are so kind and they will explain you every meal from the starter to the dessert.
The atmosphere is very homely. Du to the fntastic details which they bought from their trips around the world you can also imvagine for your self how it can be there!
Tipp: Try as a starter the mix from diffrent countries were you can eat the original food from those countries (Peru, Madagaskar, India and many more...) and your waiter will also introduce you this starter in a very lovely way! As main course we hade a typical and traditional meal from Fiorentina made by a reciepe from the 16 th century. The best meat which you can get in the Toskana - for sure! Only one thing to say: Many thanks for hospitility, the food, wine and the very kind hosters!!!

We went to this restaurant to try panigacci. We have eaten tordelli, really good and traditional! After that we have had panigacci with local ham and we have closed the dinner with grandmother cake. Lovely! Next time we will try the t-bone steak.

We were here for a lunch with friends and children in April 2015 on a saturday.
We let the host more or less propose a menu and we started with some antipasta, followed by a steamed mix of the sea, delicious. After that came a pasta vongole and a risotto di mare. Cooked to perfection.
As a main dish we took a huge local fish in salt crust.
We finished with some dessert and coffee. A wonderfull lunch!

This restaurant is very Nice with high quality level food and courteous waitre. Very good wine anche fulfilling dish with a total price not so high. This place is good for business, couple and friends dinner. Only Sunday are open for lunch. Reservetion is better.

We came across Circolo Il Ghignante late one evening and even though it was almost 10pm were brought inside by welcoming and attentive staff. The food was fantastic and portions were huge. We enjoyed it so much we came back a second time in the same week. The food was even more incredible. Everything came from the kitchen fresh and piping hot and delicious.
Highly recommend Circolo Il Ghignante if you're in the Marina di Massa area.. and make sure you try the Culurgiones al Tartufo, simply the best dish I've ever eaten!
