The Botanical Garden was established in 1966 to conserve and enhance the flora of the Apuan Alps. It belongs to Massa Municipality and it’s actually managed with “Aquilegia” Natura e Paesaggio Apuano (non-profit organization) and University of Pisa. It’s located in the heart of the Regional Parlk of the Apuan Alps, in a panoramic place between the Mountains and the sea, and inside it’s possible to admire many endemic species like “Apuan Alps’ little Widow” (Globularia incanescens Viv.), symbol of the Botanical Garden. The Botanical Garden is open every days from mid-May to mid-Septemper. Opening hours: 9.00 – 13.00 and 15.00-19.00. In other periods: opening for the spring’s festivities and on request for organized groups and aschools

Friendly guides, breath-taking views, best to go in June when all of the flowers are in bloom. All the same, we could only go in September and enjoyed it all the same. Open summer only. Requires medium-level agility to complete path.

The first time you see the Mountains above Carrara, it takes your breath away. The white "wounds" where the marble has been cut away, are bigger than life. The courage of the workers, driving their big trucks up nearly vertical slopes, the landslides of marble chips thrown down the mountain. It's all too exciting. To think that Michelangelo took his marble from these quarries with ox-drawn carts, and even had to have a bridge built over a gorge, in order to get his marble down to sea level, just amazes everybody. Take your camera.

Sono stata in questo ristorante a mangiare pesce e mi sono trovata molto bene, come ho scritto nella precedente recensione. Il proprietario ci ha consigliato di provare anche le loro focaccine, così, rimasti contenti dalla cena di pesce, abbiamo deciso di tornare. Questa volta però non è stata una buona idea, le focaccine non avevano niente di speciale, abbiamo speso 20€ a testa per 2 focaccine e una bibita e la cameriera ha continuato a scusarsi per tutta la cena dicendo che la cucina era in modalità "compleanno" (???). Se decidete di provare questo ristorante, venite per mangiare pesce, non focaccine.

Si accede a quest’area protetta liberamente e tutto l’anno; il percorso consente di fare un giro ad anello di circa 4 km attraverso gli ambienti presenti, come i canneti, i boschi e i prati umidi, la cui presenza è garantita dagli apporti idrici forniti dalle numerose colline circostanti. Molto accessibile, il percorso pianeggiante si svolge in parte sugli argini del Lago, del torrente Montignoso e del fiume Versilia e in aggiunta alle bellezze naturali, fornisce dettagliate e copiose informazioni al visitatore attraverso pannelli illustrativi frequenti lungo la tratta. Questo itinerario, effettuato a piedi o in bicicletta lungo percorsi tracciati, ci riconcilia pienamente con la natura.

Very nice rustic and elegant cantine. Professional staff speaking several languages and very helpful. Bosoni produces the best vermentino in Italy and sells it to a good price too. If you buy boxes, 6 or 12 bottles, you get a big discount. You can also fill your own bottle at a price of approx. €2 per litre. Also the red wines are perfect, try Nicolo V Riserva.

Il Castello Malaspina di Carrara, con l’attiguo rinascimentale Palazzo del Principe dei Cybo, rappresentano dal medioevo il potere signorile a Carrara.
Bella la struttura della rocca con il Torrione merlato del XII secolo a cui si accede da due grandi portali esterni.
Belli i fue cortili interni, con gli stemmi marmorei delle antiche casate con affreschi del ‘400 con le eleganti logge e portali bugnati.
Un elegante transetto cinquecentesco a colonne e bifore unisce il castello al rinascimentale Palazzo del Principe dei Cybo, un palazzo fortificato con vari ambienti e dove, al piano nobile, si trovano gli appartamenti privati del Principe.
Ambienti ricchi di arredi ed affreschi.
Ho assistito all'interno del bellissimo complesso alla rappresentazione del presepe vivente multimediale, affascinante ed interessante, coinvolgente.

The sun shone, the sea glistened, and the air was fresh and clear as I strolled out this morning. Elderly couples making their way arm-in-ark along the Promenade. I stood and watched a young couple wandering hand-in-hand along the seashore, and a few excited pooches splashing amongst the waves as their owners chatted. Some birds flew overhead their wingtips catching the light - like a thin, silver arrow slicing through the sky. February seemed to me to be a perfect time to explore without all the noise and crowds of summertime.

Poco lontano dalla città di Massa(circa tre km) si erge, sopra il paese di Montignoso, il Castello Aghinolfi; in origine, tenuto conto degli atti che ne certificano la presenza a partire dal 753, costituiva un possente baluardo che dominava tutta la valle e che controllava il non lontano litorale. Nei secoli successivi, questo Castello che risulta non essere mai stato espugnato, per la mancanza di lavori di mantenimento e per l'abbandono, si ridusse in pessimo stato,ma finalmente, all’inizio degli anni 2000, è stato sottoposta a importanti lavori di recupero e di restauro che hanno consentito nel 2008 di rendere fruibile la struttura e il Parco Archeologico all’ interno della cinta muraria esterna del Castello .La vista e il Panorama che dall’alto della torre si apre agli occhi del visitatore è stupenda, spaziando dalle isole del Golfo della Spezia, alla costa di Livorno e alle isole all’orizzonte come La Gorgona e la Capraia.
