Where to Eat in La Ventana: The Best Restaurants and Bars

January 31, 2018 Leonarda Pillsbury

La Ventana is a small fishing village on the shore of the Bay of La Ventana south of La Paz on the eastern side of the Baja California peninsula in the Mexican state of Baja California Sur. The village was founded in the early 1940s by the La Paz pearl diver Salome Leon. When pearl diving became unprofitable, Salome brought his large family by burro over the mountains from La Paz to the Bay of La Ventana to found the village. Many of Salome's descendants continue to live, fish, and work in the village.

You may not be coming to La Ventana for the FOOD, but you are going to be WOWed by Chef Alfonso. This is not just a place to eat but it is a place to enjoy food as an art, the way a artist-real chef can make you say wow at every course. Below we demonstrate some of the past art to be repeated on a daily occasion. Let chef Alfonso captivate your plate and taste buds with a real artistic experience. Always ask what the special of the day is before you look at the menu. This 4 course experience is generally USD $14.00-$18.00 plus tax. We may not be the most expensive but we are the best... Average single entrée for dinner is USD$8.00. Breakfast starting at $3.00. Got kids; we have grilled cheese, kids size and kids price hamburger and fries $4.00, don't leave home without them.

Chef Alfonso is a great chef. I have eaten his food at other resorts and it is always good.
However, at Kite Paradise they don't have a set menu with pricing. Management charges you top dollar especially for the area. If you eat here make sure you get the prices up front.

The owners are delightful. The food is delicious. The menus are on two wine bottles. The have yummy thin crust pizza, pasta and specialties. A vegetarian would be happy here too. You get popcorn to start that tastes like garlic bread. We had two pizzas and the vegetarian pasta . All were perfect. A local makes the desserts. We shared the chocolate cake. Service was amazing. We'll be back.

Staying with locals (vegetarians) who recommended that I try this place that their friends enjoyed. I was warned that the food might take a while particularly in the evening. Wasnt too concerned since it was only a few kilometres by bike from my trailer.
There are a couple of tables in three areas that seat about forty in total. I ordered when there was only a table of six seate but there were probably about two dozen sitting when I left two hours later.
There is a large picture sign board of the dishes available beside the order window that adjoins the kitchen (no table service but they do a brisk phone in/takeaway business). I ordered at the window and then set down at a small table where I could watch the kitchen. Each order appeared to be cooked from scratch so no surprise that it was nearly an hour before my order was up.
The cover photo that I provided Tripadvisor doesnt do it justice but the red sauce was amazing, the chicken filling didnt have any hint of that stewy stringy texture you get in faster service restaurants and the garnish was cut fresh for each order so no brown or dried bits.
I only wish I ha found this place earlier in my month long stay so I could have tried some more options
There is no beer or alcohol service but there is a nearby beer store about 100 paces away

A nice change from the taco scene! The menu is versitle, from smoothie bowls to Spicy Thai. Everything is prepared fresh, but didn't wait long for our meal. We ordered the spicy Thai, (popular entree). It's a small, but charming place. Get there early for dinner, no later than 630pm, otherwise you risk being turned away. They offer take out. It's a refreshing addition to the community.

It is a type of spa setting with a beautiful view. My husband and I went there for breakfast. It is a set menu, coffee, juice, fruit and the main dish, ours was a frittata and salad, although it was good, we felt it was over priced for what we got.
