Southern Eatery

We've always cooked big. We cooked for twenty people when our family consisted of four. Cooking has been a passion for us since we were nothing but your everyday family. We began catering in 2008 and by 2010 we were officially Stewart's Catering. We delivered meals to local businesses and friends from our commercial kitchen at our house. Over the past few years our business has expanded and my husband joined the chaos that is now known as Southern Eatery. We purchased our building in April of 2013 and opened in April of 2014. After a year of hard work and dedication from our family and employees, we made our dreams into reality. We ask that you celebrate with us as we continue to progress, enjoy homemade food, and share with family and friends. After all, that's what has made Southern Eatery a success!

Needed lunch stop and as always, we try to find a local favorite. This time chose Southern Eatery based on TA ratings.
It was noon on a Thursday. We sat ourselves. Place was about half full. We were greeted and drink orders placed. We had the option of ordering lunch buffet or off limited menu. We waited for at lease 10 minutes before waitress came back to take order. We both ordered off limited menu, two burgers.
It was literally 30 minutes before we got our burgers. They were very good with home cut fries, but come on, it doesn’t take 30 minutes!
The buffet was as expected, Southern cooking with fried chicken and all the home cooked sides and desserts. But we were not that hungry so opted for the burgers.
Place is located right off the square downtown. Funky parking.

Annie's Restaurant

Reviewed By travelwriter52 - Conyers, GA

We got there ten minutes before closing, so I was not upset that there was very little choice. It is basically a buffet line (drinks and desserts additional cost). What food was left, was fresh. With this restaurant, you don't go there for the food, you go there for Annie, who is the owner and a bigger than life personality. We were told the fried chicken was the best, but I had to settle for the baked chicken which was fine. The desserts were store bought. I would have skipped the desert if I had known I was paying extra. I would come here again.

Phillips Grocery

Reviewed By SnowGlobeKing - Roanoke, Texas

This is certainly an eating establishment where the food outweighs the charm. Not a great number of tables inside, but there is outdoor seating available. We visited on a rather cold day, so the interior quickly filled with smoke from the grilling. Cannot complain. We enjoyed some of the best burgers and patty melts in our lives. Off the beaten path above Holly Springs, but definitely worth a visit.

Victor's Pizza

If you are in the Holly Springs area it is a must that you stop by Victors and have a big fat pizza and a nice cold beer! The pizza is stuffed with toppings and the dough has a delicious yeast type flavor which is complemented perfectly the glass of your favorite beer. This pizza can be a little bit pricey but I assure you that it is worth every penny.

Went twice and the service and food were great. They have vegetarian options in the menu ( If eating from the buffet, be aware that the beans there are made with Manteca: pork fat.)

Marshall Steakhouse

Reviewed By robbiejuneomalley - Gold Coast, Australia

Marshall's is a real country place that starts with the owner Randall. Randall is southern pride - southern gentleman - good ole boy - hunter - fisherman and this place has all of those characteristic rolled into an amazing place fitted out with ancient timbers, massive indian and bear carvings, deer heads, a giant blue marlin and yes great steaks. You can relax and let your hair down at Marshall's. There is no uppity pretense here, just down home service and good food. The creamy spinach is amazing and the salmon is also recommended if you don't eat meat. For large groups and special functions this place is perfect. Long tables and areas that can be closed for privacy. If you are in the area it is definitely worth a look.

JB's on the Square

Reviewed By TonyFromMemphis - Arlington, Tennessee

You go in and the decor is very cool.
The very old building with the brick walls and old original wooden floor with this awesome brick archway into the kitchen......and then the waiter comes over.
This particular gentleman could have cared less if the King of England sat down. Inattentive, didn't know the menu and just not personable at all. None of the staff was, as a matter of fact.
The menu has only a couple of southern dishes, which is what I would have expected. I ordered the ettoufee. So in about 25 minutes, the waiter comes back and says we're out of ettoufee. No kidding, 25 minutes.
So I go with the smoked sausage
"po'boy". In another 20 minutes, it arrives. Plain white, stale hotdog bun with a smoked sausage and lettuce, tomato, and onion. My side? Ore Ida krinkle cut fries; soggy.
My wife's red beans and rice, mostly rice and some gelatinous gravy with a few beans and a piece of sausage here and there.
The other two couples were less than happy also.
None of us finished our food.
My advice is; if you go to Holly Springs, which has several delightful restaurants, don't waste your time or money on this one.

Annie’s Home Cooking

Reviewed By TEXASconnie - San Antonio

Just know Miss Annie's Home Cooking is an iconic place to visit in this small Mississippi town. Right off the hwy -- and just come around the side!! Don't be shy as these folks just love to have you. You tell Miss Annie I sent you!! hahaha!
It's just home cooking ~ southern style. When you are here you're getting a true part of the south, the community of eastern Mississippi.
Everyday is a different meal set up, about $10 per plate, plus tax or so.

If you are heading east to Tupelo, or Birmingham.. stop
If you are heading west to Memphis, stop...

Think you'll enjoy the comfort, casual southern home cooking!!!

Pulled in at lunchtime, pretty good crowd. Just went for a drink which arrived quickly. Be careful when leaving if you're turning left.
