We were driving across country, and stopped in Holly Springs. We found a restaurant where the staff was very helpful in recommending things to see and do. We took a chance driving out to Strawberry Plains Audubon Center. We were the only 2 people out there on a Sunday, and we met Linda a volunteer who was so pleasant to answer all our questions. She kindly gave us a private tour of the Davis house that normally requires a reservation. Strawberry Plains is a large old plantation donated to the Audubon society by 2 sisters, it is one of their largest properties in the US. It offers many short walking trails, slave cemetery, a mansion with history, and lots of birds. We enjoyed our visit very much, and spent a good 3 1/2 hours walking trails, and seeing the mansion. It is an interesting stop in rural Tennessee, and if you like to support non profit organizations like we do....please stop in for a visit. The fee to see the property For two of us was less than $10, The mansion tour adds a few dollars, but they also take donations to help keep this large property going for everyone to enjoy.

A wealth of local history in an unassuming place! The staff was welcoming and knowledgable. Martha was very kind to walk us through the first level. The second and third level were self guided and even more impressive. Even the building itself has historical significance. Great way to spend an afternoon and well worth the $5 admission fee.

If you enjoy older cemeteries, this is not to be missed. The grounds are beautiful, the stones interesting and the history immense.

I have been working in the Holly Springs area, so I thought I'd give Kirkwood National a try. I was not disappointed. The course layout is fun and challenging. Be sure to select the correct Tee Box for your game. If you play from too far back, you may have a very long day. The Clubhouse and non-course areas are beginning to show their age, but the course itself is aging quite gracefully. I hope you get out to enjoy it......from the proper tee box.

My girlfriend and I camped for 3 nights in our pop-up camper right near the bathhouse/laundry room at site 14 over the Thanksgiving weekend. Our experience was a very enjoyable one. The heavily wooded camping area was beautiful and peaceful. We thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful nature trail that circles the lake with great views of the water. There are many elevation changes along the way with steps built into the hills at the most steep areas. The water in the spring-fed lake is so clear, you can see the bottom. There are negative points about this park such as the abandoned and fenced off swimming area that allows you to see how much more attractive the park was in years past. Also, the hot water in the showers was hit and miss. On the whole, though, we would recommend this park to others!

An excellent place for a short hike in a beautiful spot that is close to Oxford MS. The lake is in a serene pine forested area in Holly Springs National Forest and can be reached via an unpaved road from Hwy 30 (east of Oxford). The lake itself is beautiful, and picnic tables are available. There also is a short loop of a nature trail (about 1 mile in length). Enjoy a remote feeling but not too far from the city.

I went here with my 7 year old son last weekend. We hiked down to the pond from the trailhead parking area and camped out that night. We did some fishing that evening before the sun went down and caught some small bass. It had rained a lot so it was pretty marshy near the lake, but nothing unbearable if you're expecting to get a little wet and muddy. Overall we had a great time.
As a note, there was some tornado damage from a few years ago that blocked some of the path at the highest point of the trail, but it's easily avoided.

I visited the Ida B Wells when I was 69 and has been retired for one year. The video I was shown here was so inspirational that I gave up retirement to campaign for equality in UK broadcasting. Ida Be Wells is almost unknown in Britain, Hers is the most inspiring story I have ever seen. TripAvisor does not give me the option of saying that this was in November 2013.
