Pide is similar to pizza, however, most would prefer it over pizza after you get the taste of it, especially in good bakeries, like this one. this restaurant have been at the same spot for many years. It may be overcrowded sometimes. The pides are usually very good, but the quality may decrease if the place is overcrowded. Traditionally pides with ground beef and small pieces of meat can be ordered with cheese over it. Ground beef and cheese only pides can be ordered with extra egg.
Ayran, a traditional Turkish drink, classically made with mixing yogurt with water can be consumed as a good choice. Pop and cola also goes well.
I am not very sure, but the pide in the picture should be about 350 - 450 Calories, and it is 1 portion. 1.5 portions can be ordered. (half portions may not be welcomed)
While 1 portion is good enough, if you are not living in Ereğli, and not planning to be here again for a while, go for 1.5 portions.. Who knows, may be you would not have a chance to come back again? :)
I hope this restaurant keeps its quality along with its reasonable prices.

Çok temiz ve güzel bir yerde fakat klima olmayışı insanı bunaltmaya yetiyor. İskenderi çok lezzetli ama fiyatlar yüksek bir çok yere göre.

Engin Balik is one of the few well known fish restaurants in Eregli. Very fresh and well prepared. We have had one of the best turbot fish. Salad and fish is good enough to get a full stomach. Price is acceptable. Better to have a reservation. It is full almost every night in the high season.

Another visit to Hasan Kuru, and still very pleasant experience. In order to get the best experience in this restaurant, speak to the waitor about your choice. Get a menü, and you will see there, there are many custom touches to your specific pide order available. Pide can be open, or closed, but closed type is the specialty here. the ingredients are plenty and they can be combined. If you like ground beef, you can have it with plenty of onions, little amount of onions, no onions, with eggs added or not, so it is not simply ordering a "ground beef kuru pide".
About onions, they definitely give a distinct flavour to ground beef pide, however, some may not like too much onions. I have previously ordered ground beef pide without specifiying the onions amount, and while it was delicious, it kind of give me a bit bloating and heartburn. When I ordered ground beef without onions however, everyting was very fine. My preference therefore is ground beef kuru pide with egg, and without onions. There are other specialties with kashar cheese - similar to mozzarella, with egg, browned and unbrowned ground beef, pastırma, sucuk etc. Pide is consumed with ayran traditionally, however carbonated beverages also go fine. The price is very acceptable to what you get. So it is a cost effective restaurant experience.
the entry of the restaurant is on a main Street, hard to see actually, but very easy to find. there is a traditional wood oven where pides are cooked. You walk to the right of the oven, and you will find a closed restaurant, and there are stairs on the right going downstairs.
Open or closed Seating places are available according to the season and the climate. Group sittings can be arranged at no extra cost. Staff is very friendly, and would help for your selections.
They may be shy to speak to the foreigners, and language might be a problem, but it will be solved eventually.
In june 2016 4 people had very filling lunch with beverages and paid 85 liras, about 27 Euros.

Arabama bakim icin gittim öğle. Yemeyi icin kavurmali pide siparis ettim mekan sakindi on dakika zaman icinde geldi pide asiri yagli biraz tabakta kaldi mekan sahibi ilgilendi sag olsun pide icin sikinti mi var. Diye sordu bende asiri yagli oldugunu yiyemedigimi ilettim oda bana kavurmali pide boyle yagli olur dedi ne diyim pide. Yemek istedigim zaman hep kavurmali tercih ederim ben hic kavurmali pide yememisim demekki mekan sahibinin ilgilenip sormasi isine onem verdigini gösterir. Baska cesitler deneyebilirsiniz. ( bu arada tum gun midem mafoldu yagdan :( )
