I visited this attractive looking restaurant on a whim at lunchtime recently. The place was positively buzzing and I was very lucky to get seat for one. The food (I had the steak and chips) was simple and unpretentious and the service was efficient and cheerful. My steak was perfectly cooked and tender and came with a delicate sauce. The bill came to around €16 which included a bottle of sparkling water and which I felt was very good value.

When my family and I first started coming to Cognac about 10 years ago, there was little choice of good eating places and on occasion there were none. On this last visit I am most impressed by the number and quality of good eating places. This is just one of the dozen or so such places doing a great trade. The place was positively buzzing (and noisy) at lunchtime but we were fitted in very efficiently and without fuss. Our waitress spoke excellent idiomatic English (without the aid of SIRI) and was most courteous and helpful. We all had the salmon darnes all cooked to perfection and washed down with some local white wine. And it did not cost the earth……We’ll be heading back there again before we leave……In the meantime my curiosity got the better of me and I just had to look up the origin of the name which came from a French military leader Bertrand Du Guesclin who drove the English from France. Now you know!!!!

Although not in a lovely area of Cognac this restaurant has a nice ambience inside, obviously themed around Cognac-making.
We had a set three course meal which was nice and well priced at 22 euros each. The "a la carte" menu was varied and pretty well priced as well.
The staff were friendly, polite and helpful.
The extensive wine list has bottles fro 18 euros up to 1000euros (yes 1000!). There are wines by the glass at a reasonable price too.
A good experience.

La Table de l'Yeuse

This lovely 19th-century residence, featuring a more recent wing, welcomes its guests in the verdant showcase of its Respectful Garden, designed to preserve biodiversity. The setting is superb and during the high season, it can be enjoyed from the Terrace, facing the horizon. Here you will taste creative cuisine that highlights the work of local producers, garnished with wild herbs and crops from the garden. Winter is enjoyed by the fireplace in the drawing room, where one samples Cognac and cigars. The Wellness Centre can provide a diversion for relaxation and cocooning. The indoors is plush, with a successful blend of colours. Some of the guest rooms offer a spellbinding Panorama over the Charente Valley and its vineyards and villages.

Enjoyable lunch prior to Remy Martin visit.
Excellent starter and service- main course beef bourguignon wasn't what we expected with tough beef and huge lumps of gristle - but accompaniments very nice. Very good pudding and overall good value. Just a disappointment with the beef but worth a try.

If you are within 100 miles of Cognac, you should take some time to visit this charming Town. We explored the old town which is very pedestrian friendly. We worked up an appetite and ducked into a small restaurant run by a wonderful couple. What attracted us to the restaurant were all the locals who were sitting there eating. We quickly learned why. The food was prepared there by the husband, and served by the young wife They clearly enjoyed what they did and they emphasized quality of food and quality of service.
We had a wonderful lunch, accompanied by a glass of wine. Give yourself a treat, and visit this town, and this small restaurant.

Since my last visit to this very popular Cognac dining spot during April last I had a longing to return. This time I brought some reinforcements. The place was positively buzzing on a Wed night in late September which is a very good sign for a restaurant in rural France. I will not go into any great detail here as I did so on a previous occasion. Everything we had was better than average and did not cost the earth. And the service was courteous if a little slow. But then with this quality of cuisine who would want to be in a hurry. The gourmet meal for five came to €200 including a gratuity. We’ll be back again before leaving this brandy and wine-making heaven. One word of advice…do book before you go!
