This restaurant may not offer a gourmet extravaganza but it delivers great authentic tapas at amazing prices and with terrific service. If you like the Spanish eating experience, it is ideal, especially for families with a wide range of likes and dislikes. In a very seafood town, it provides a wider range of options than most other restaurants tried.

Rota is growing given the ships that will be stationed and arriving. This is huge news and of significance to the area given the influx of money and positive contribution. The Spanish economy is going through very hard times, but will flourish in these hard economic times because Americans love living on the economy and cannot wait to experience local cuisine and establishments. Most Spanish are grateful and totally customer service oriented, notwithstanding nationality. However, this restaurant is totally dedicated to Spaniards and blatantly disturbed by foreign patronage.
When we arrived, we explained we had already eaten, but were delighted to be at his restaurant for dessert and a glass of wine. He took the order while we were standing and then seated us at a table that was cleared, but had the plastic covering (all other tables had linen and linen napkins). Our glass of wine was literally a splash and we were not offered napkins nor cutlery. When we asked for both, Paco - the manager???? - stated that our arriving and what we were asking for was "a first for him". He did pour more wine, but stated that he could not offer more. He gave us paper napkins.
He was not thinking outside the box that foreigners came to his restaurant and it was a possible money making opportunity. Note: Spaniards do not tip - foreigners tip the greater percentages -- I stated that he was not giving us any reason to give accolades by "word of mouth" for our friends and colleagues to come experience his restaurant. His response was "I don't need them." So, there you go. He is not worthy of our patronage.
Note: I love eating and traveling. I usually find great and good every where I go, so if I am negative on this venue, you have to know it is not recommended. See my other reviews and you will know.

Chipiona is wonderful and there are so many other places to dine.

Popped in here last night 16-9-2016 for a bite to eat, nice small and very busy tapas restaurant. Get here just as it open on the night time around 20.30, gets busy very quickly. Menu is only in Spanish, but it all €2-3 tapas, so if you order wrong it's not costing you an arm and a leg.
Good idea to maybe have a translation app on your phone if you stuck on a few Spanish words.
Nice atmosphere and the owner I think is a great guy.

I hesitate to encourage more non-Spaniards to visit Chipina, which is a gem of a holiday location with few foreigners and less concessions to theose who do venture there. There are loads of excellent eateries mostly serving pretty much simlar fare so service is an important differentiator. Los Corrales is wonderfully positioned virtually on one fo the town's Beaches and features a charcoal grill and attractive menu. It also offers higher prices than most others so one expects more so it was a big disappointment to receive less - waiting an hour for mains which required little kitchen time. In fact the waiter was slow to greet, slow to offer drinks, menu... you get the picture. Try alternatives behind Playa de la Regla and Camaron Beaches.

On a sunny Sunday afternoon we visited for tapas. The Seating was lovely with little private areas and it looked good, they have obviously put a lot of effort and thought into the decor. The service was ramshackle, the tapas were poor and not good value for money. There are other tapas bars near by. A great place to watch the sun set, there are tables out the front virtually on the beach as well as inside.

We have eaten here a total of three times in March and April. This hotel has a large ground floor exterior Terrace (sun shades available) over looking the sea/beach. It was good for the friends we went with who had young children and they could run around safely as the Terrace is enclosed and away from the passing traffic on the sea front but still has sea and beach views.
For the first two visits the service was pretty dire - but we still came back for more the following lunchtime for the second visit because the food was so good! However, they did try to redeem themselves by giving us a free bottle of cava because service was so slow.
During our more recent April visit there was new waiting staff and the service was much improved and finally complimented the high standards of food from the kitchen.
Food is modern "tapas" style with dishes costing between 4-7 Euros. Often the starter dishes were good value and larger portion size with the main courses being smaller but still less than 8 Euros, so for 15 Euros per head a reasonable quantity meal with drinks can be enjoyed.
Some of the starters we enjoyed were tuna tarter, home made pate, salmon Carpaccio, salt cod revuelto, wild mushroom risotto and grilled goats cheese and aubergine. All were excellent and well presented with home made breads and various side sauces and decorations.
For the main courses we preferred the meat dishes to the fish which included very good pork fillet in roquefort sauce, presa iberica, beef fillet wrapped in bacon and good home made (pork) hamburgers.
The home made desserts which included an almond tart and various chocolate concoctions sadly looked better than they tasted but did not lessen the overall good eating experience.
Prices for wine are very reasonable, for example Beronia Rioja Crianza for 10.50 Euros.

Normally we go to Paco’s next door but on this occasion we tried here because it was in the sun. We sat on the Terrace which overlooks the carpark (rather than the more scenic marina views) as the carpark view benefits from the winter sun and was busy as a result.
Service was prompt and the menu was tapas, half and full portions. Also other diners were having things from the main restaurant menu, such as salt baked fish, so staff were flexible.
We tried corvina croquetas, breaded corvina, pig cheek stew, paella and achova in spicy adobo batter. All were fine; I have had better fried fish but it was reasonable.
So lunch of five tapas and two glasses of wine and two beers was 22.50 Euros.

We found a brochure of this restaurant in the lobby of our hotel and decided to give it a try.
The location isn't perfect, but who cares when the food is this great?!
The restaurant is situated just outside the center, and next to a busy road. But we made Reservations for the next day and asked to sit at the porch.
The food is served as tapa or racion (slightly bigger than tapa) and is to die for! Try the white wine Tierra Blanca (regional)! If you like dry white wine, you'll love this one!
We recommend the gambas al ajillo and the fried cheese with honey.
We have travelled through Andalucia for two weeks and were fed up with the fried fish and greasy food. Non of that at restaurante El Faro!
If we ever go back to Chipiona, we'll be sure to make Reservations at this restaurant. Enjoy, I'm sure you will!
