The restaurant of Chateau de Marcay is phenomenal. The staff take amazing cares to make sure everything is perfect. We did one of the set menus, and it was phenomenal! Plus an unusual amuse bouche to start off the meal. We loved it!

This is an exceptional restaurant in the middle of the old town of Chinon. In a lovely building making for a warm atmosphere the staff were efficient, friendly, and helpful. We had dinner there and each of the three courses was cooked to perfection and presented very well. The dinner plus aperitifs, a bottle of wine, and coffee came to €113 for two which we felt was very good value for such a top class offering.

We were trying to find a place to have dinner and we came across this pizzeria with great selection of pizzas and other delicious dishes at a very affordable value.
It was a warm day in August, so we sat outside. For three of us, we ordered three different large pizzas and a cassolette. We were so hungry and we didn’t know how big the pizzas were, that is why we ordered this much food .
When the plates arrived we were pleasantly surprized of the size and the yummy look and smell of our meals. The pizzas were thin crust, crispy and tasty, and the cassolette was wonderful!
The restaurant seems to be a family business as we saw the husband making the pizzas and the wife taking the orders. The atmosphere was very family friendly.
We highly recommend this lovely little restaurant in Chinon!

Looked to be one of the larger restaurants in town, made reservation on the day, some of the other restaurants fully booked so was prepared to be disappointed. Needn't have worried excellent food and good service. The owners were very much in attendance which I always take as a good sign. Extensive wine list, ordered wine which wasn't in stock so was given a more expensive bottle for the same price. Lovely aperitif as well. Can definitely recommend

Everything about our meal was first class. All the food was excellent - oysters, pike-perch, a marvellous cheeseboard, dessert - and it was beautifully presented and served. The service was friendly and professional and we warmed to the initially minimalist decor as the evening went on. This was food of metropolitan standard in a small provincial town - a treat.

We've eaten at several of the other TripAdvisor recommended restaurants in Chinon, but L'Ardoise comes top for quality of food, service and value-for-money.
Menu of the day for €16 was super value - we enjoyed starters of (a) salmon tartare with mango & pineapple, and (b) a luxurious mushroom soup, followed by (a) generous faux-filet steak and (b) cod, with each of us choosing the cafe gourmand to finish - all very tasty indeed.
It is very popular, and gets fully booked with locals - but on-line booking is very easy and straightforward.

We chose this restaurant in part because it is in an old half timbered building. It is equally charming inside. Service was pleasant and prompt. We ordered from the formule menu. I had a wonderful scallop starter while my husband the tomato carpaccio. We had a beef main dish. We also had a good bottle of local wine. All very good.

Charming warm room that provided comfort for a group of ten. Presentation from the little amuse bouche to the cheese plate and dessert was outstanding. Appreciated having a sommelier who knew the regional wines well. The chef made himself visible and obviously took pride in his carefully prepared dishes. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates fine food and is not in a rush.

On our week-long hike through the Loire Valley, we were looking for a change from the 3-course meal. In summary, it was enjoyable pizza for a fair price, but ridiculously poor service. As an example, our food arrived before our drinks. I would suggest trying a take-away pizza and sitting on the square.

This is a very nice little place to sit and sample local wines and cheeses. Tables outside which makes for very pleasant relaxing athmosphere. Wine by the glass or bottle and a cheese plate of local cheeses....not expensive but could sit there for a long time....
