La casa de la abuela

I had breakfast at this restaurant, which seems to be the most traditional and authentic in town. Although it wasn't on the menu, I asked for huevos rancheros with mole on top instead of red sauce. It is a delicious combination and the owner --a lovely older woman (la abuela)-- came out to see how I lked it and to tell me about the prizes her mole has received. I recommend this place quite a bit for price, atmosphere and quality. There isn't much to choose from in Zacatlán, so I'd stop here for sure.

Try Zacatlán's traditional food (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and enjoy the best view of "los jilgueros" valley.

Fantastic view and the food is quite nice as well ...
You can see the whole "Barranca" or canyon below with the Mountains surrounding Zacatlan from almost any table in the restaurant.
The "sidra" or hard apple cider was quite nice and is a local specialty ... the tostadas I ordered were also quite nice and fresh.

This restaurant is popular in town for having a fresh trout. Is was good, we liked it!. But it took almost an hour for they to get ready the fish. It was a busy day and they only have two waitresses, It was Xmas though!. Price was fair, 100 mexican pesos a dish of trout. Location of the restaurant is nice, in front of a small lake or pond.

Wine and beer, mexican and imported, and excelent traditional cuisine. Mrs. Vicky is well known in the region serving original, well prepared and healthy dishes from the Puebla food palette. Tierra 44 is also recognised for the extended wine selection, from all over Mexico, and also spanish, italian, chilenean, german, french and portuguese wines. Small place one block from the "floral clock". Great service. Mom cooks - and she knows her business. Amazing food. Great service (it is worth repeating). Inexpensive. Good selection of decent wines (nothing really fancy, but well chosen) and local drinks, including a real local...MoreIt was a pleasure having you. We´ll be happy to see you soon! Thank you.

They have an excellent and very cheap daily menu plus plenty of traditional Mexican food from the menu. We arrived close to closing time and they only had a few items from the daily menu left but were willing to prepare us delicious vegetarian chilaquiles since a they had left was meat. Excellent service and good food.

At the entrance there is a genuine coffee roaster in which the restaurant roasts its own beans then grinds them for the coffee they serve. It's interesting coffee -- light and flavorful. You can purchase coffee (beans or ground) on your way out.
The restaurant serves up a buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Reasonable and the food -- all mexican regional -- is tasty. Can also order from the menu if you are not adventuresome.
