We had lunch at Cafe Aroma and especially enjoyed the Fritadas, which we were told was a local specialty. However, there were also several American-style dishes on the menu and many coffee drinks to choose from. There was a large library of books that suggests that they encourage lingering, but I did not notice any books in English. The server was pleasant, friendly and spoke English.

Café El Jinete a British owned café offering the best Espresso coffee made from Arabica beans along with Club sandwiches guaranteed to fill and offers a Pub Gourmet type menu with only the best hand selected foods. The Sirloin Steak (bife de Chorizo) really is the ecuadorian equivalent of the Aberdeen steak due to the highland cattle. Our burgers are made from fresh ground selected pieces of pure beef made into the famous Hamburguesa Delux with cheeses, rocket, bacon mixed grilled veg and mushrooms and fresh cut chips. Fish and Chips made with fresh beer batter is also a winner in the menu. For the hardy traveller who needs a rest with a touch of home and kindness, Café El Jinete is a refuge for all.

I've lived in Ecuador for 10 months now and constantly find myself craving a hamburger, but most of the hamburgers here have an odd blend of spices added to them and I find myself disappointed with my meal. However, the hamburguesa deluxe at Cafe El Jinete breaks the mold. THIS IS THE BEST HAMBURGER IN Ecuador! The meat is juicy and flavorful, you won't want to let a single morsel miss your mouth. It's topped with fresh grilled peppers, mushrooms, spinach, cheese and a toasted cheese piece. My husband said each bite was an explosion of flavor into his mouth! And it really is! It comes with fresh cut fries as well. I can't believe I waited 10 months before trying this burger. I travel from Quito to Ibarra often and this will now be a MANDATORY stop for lunch or dinner. It's seriously that good. If you're passing through Cayambe this is a must stop!

The very nice owners of this small stall make tasty colombian street food at very cheap prices. There isn't much space to sit as this tiny place is always crowded, but it's what makes it charm...

We have lived in Ecuador for 3 years and finally discovered an upscale restaurant that offers tender rib eye steak. The service was fast and exceptional. We were a group of 10 and all of our food was served at the same time. The trick is knowing what to order the rib eye is called Bife de Chorizo sounds like sausage but it is not. They bring a sample of the steak to your table and then prepare the way you like it. I ordered the medium but it was more medium rare. The bloody dripping from the steak soaked in my French fries...yuck. Next time I will skip the French fries since the steak is so large enough to take home or share. Before the meal they serve a hot crusty garlic bread that is fantastic followed by a salad served family style. My friend ordered the salmon and said it was good but a little dry. Friends raved about the sangria but I did not care for it since it was mainly strawberry flavored. For dessert I ordered the tiramisu that was good but just not great. Yes, we will be going back!

We visited B2H on our way back to Quito from a weekend trip to Otavalo and surrounds. Coming from Australia I appreciate a well aged and well cooked steak and unfortunately it's very hard to find a really good steak in Ecuador. This shouldn't be the case! As Ecuador has some of the richest pasture in the world.
Finally, after eating at B2H I can say that I have eaten an amazing steak in Ecuador! Not only that but the whole meal ($12.50) was incredible and excellent value, for an entre, main course, desert and fresh juice.
Presentation of the food was +++.
I was really very impressed with the restaurant and the attention of the staff. When I'm craving a good steak I'll be happy to make a day trip from Quito!
