Went for Sunday lunch and even though we had booked a table near the ladies toilets as my mother has problems walking, when we got there the waitress said our table was the opposite end of the pub. She then said there was a table near the ladies which was much better for us. They took our drinks order and we waited ages for them to arrive, in fact I went to the bar to ask where they were then I saw the waitress carrying them. Food arrived and 3 of us had beef and 1 chicken, plenty of meat but the yorkshire pud was hard and hollow, roast potatoes not crispy, veg (cauli, carrots, broccoli, cabbage) totally tasteless and tasted as if it had all been cooked without salted water, gravy was thin and tasted like Bisto and none of the meals were hot, they weren't cold by any means but they could of been hotter. And at £10.95 for just the main course, not good value at all. In fact on their website the price for chicken, pork and beef is £9.95 and £10.95 for lamb but when you are there the price for chicken, pork and beef is £10.95 and lamb £12.95 - so rather misleading!Desserts were £4.95 and 2 of my party had one, could be served with cream, ice cream or custard, they opted for the cream which was the yucky squirty one.The waitresses were friendly but the food was a big disappoitment and we would not go back again.

The food was spot, there was an amazing selection of great sandwiches and different dishes. Which was freshly served and elegantly arranged. I Would highly recommend the buffet food with no hesitations. This most definitely contributed to a wonderful day.

We were not sure what to expect but Sunday roast beef was delicious and plentiful. Veg was fresh, roasties were crisp and yorkies homemade. Gravy was also tasty and lots of it. We’d arrived without booking and staff accommodated us easily. A nice mix of locals and visitors and a few friendly dogs. It was a lovely way to spend an autumn Sunday afternoon.Very pleased you enjoyed your visit, thank you for the fab comments, hope you'll visit again soon.

We visited the fox and hounds with friends on a Saturday evening after reading the positive reviews on this site, albeit the majority of reviews were for Sunday lunch. The dining area is very small and although some may call it intimate it felt like we were eating in our front room and lacked any atmosphere. We had to wait a long time to order and our starters didn’t come for half an hour even though there were only two other tables being served. The soup was tasty and our friends’ salmon was good. We again had a long wait for our main courses. I had rib eye steak which was average at best. Our friends had the Fried Hake which was very small. At no stage either at our table or when paying our bill at the bar were we asked how our meals were or whether we wanted another drink. Either the bed and breakfast at the fox and hounds is the priority for the management or the couple in charge, neither of whom were smartly dressed, need to improve their customer service.Dear ltj-1964We choose not to reply to any of our reviews (good or bad) as we appreciate that this a platform for diners to express their personal options. However I am compelled to reply to you as you have chosen to comment about my husband and I on a personal level. On the night that you dined, my husband, who is the head chef, was tucked away in the kitchen (wearing his chef whites) and I was unfortunately at home, tucked up in bed due to illness. I'm afraid to say that you did not meet either of us.The front of house staff who you refer to in your review are 2 of our supervisors. I'm sorry if you think our chosen uniform of jeans and trainers are not smart enough. We believe that what our team wear is in keeping with our establishment; we are, after all, a family friendly village pub.

We were very pleasantly surprised...the pub looks not a lot from outside..even a bit run down...We found this place in "BritStop" book & were planning to take motor home but changed mind at last minute.Inside its newly refurbed and very nice. I had a starter of Fishcakes hubby had calamari... he asked a Q about his starter & immediately it was replaced ... Calamari like the fish cake was very nice. The main courses Lamb Rump & Ribeye were better than I've had in Cardiff restaurants & the portions were huge.. CHIPS TO DIE FOR !! sauces with both meats exceptionally tasty ....We had plans for desserts & chessboard but "eyes bigger than bellies" we shared a cheesecake which again was a large good quality portion of food.Very reasonably priced wine list & menu ..Highly recommend... we will be back with our Motor home...no taxis or need to drive ... We wish you well in your business...Thank you x

They are friendly and professional but not pretentious in any way. That’s exactly how it should be Food was amazing. We went for the taster menu. First visit under the new management. I ordered chicken breast with mozzarella and jalapeños which was served with chips and salad garnish. When the meal arrived it was actually a chicken burger with “plastic” type chicken in a very dry bread roll. So disappointing as nowhere on the menu does it say it is a burger. Had I known this I would not have ordered it. The chips and salad garnish were ok, the cheesecake dessert was delicious. I would go again but please Carne Arms get the menu right. Also online menu states 2 for £12 but again did not see this on the menu in the pub. Hopefully these are teething problems.
