A great restaurant if you like middle-eastern food - everything we had was delicious especially the Humus Kavurma (hummus with lamb) which was the best I've had, and I always choose this whenever I see it on a menu! Although home-made bread is mentioned on the menu, the bread that arrived with the hummus was bought-in I'm pretty sure as it tasted the same as the very thin middle-eastern bread that you can buy sometimes (thinner than pita). Unfortunately our bread was stone cold and didn't taste particularly fresh - I had to ask for it to be warmed up. This was a disappointment but otherwise the food was lovely and staff were friendly.

An award winning dining destination in the centre of beautiful old Amersham, the Artichoke restaurant has been tipped for the top by critics, chefs (including Raymond Blanc) and, rather impressively, the Michelin Guide 2011. The traditional setting of Art

This was our fourteenth visit in the last three years to the Artichoke and in that time have become good friends with owners Laurie , Jackie and head chef Ben. So therefore when the announcement came on Monday 7th October that they they had finally earned the distinctive honour of holding a Michelin Star ⭐️ I couldn't have been more pleased. The food here has been so consistent and we've even noticed that on our last three or four visits this has definitely risen to the next level. The imagination and creativity using excellent local produce in order to put these fabulous dishes in front of their customers is amazing. Their front of house team has also been very good over the years which is now under the leadership of manager Jerek. Once we heard the exciting news we really couldn't wait to pay another visit and luckily that happened to be yesterday. So on a nice bright saturday we headed from east to west and enjoy another nice afternoon in the lovely little town of Amersham. As soon as we entered the restaurant you could still clearly see that everyone was still on a high from receiving the fantastic news. So after our nice friendly welcome we was escorted to our table in front of the fabulous wine rack which obviously used to be a fireplace. While we were given the menus to look through they poured us a glass of complimentary champagne as part of them celebrating the achievement with their customers. There are five menus to choose from the Lunch , A la Carte , Lunch Tasting Menu and a short six course and long eight course Tasting Menus. We decided to choose the eight course tasting menu as since it had been a few months since our last visit all the dishes were new.
We started with the fabulous Chiltern Black Ale Bread which this time came with a Bee Pollen Butter. This was followed by a delightful little Amuse Bouche of Taramasalata , Cucumber & Kohlrabi to cleanse the palate before we moved onto our first course a Seafood Ravioli with Pumpkin Veloute & Sea Herbs. The next course was definitely one of the highlights a Truffle Choux Bun with Lincolnshire Poacher , Cep Ketchup & Salsify and with the mixture of hot and cold this dish was stunning. We then moved on to our next course of Pan Fried Duck Liver which together with Poached Quince & Spiced Bread was a little taste sensation. This was followed by the Atlantic Halibut with Squid , Mussels , Seaweed and a beautiful Shellfish Miso Now it was time for the main course to which their is a choice of two a Venison Saddle smoked with Douglas Fir and served alongside Venison Salami , Beef Dripping Potato , Red Cabbage & Beetroot and the other a Chalgrove Estate Partridge with a Black Pudding Tartlet , Morteau Sausage & Golden Raisins. Both dishes were amazing but I have to say my choice of the Partridge was without doubt the highlight of the day. During our little rest before we moved onto the next course it was nice of Laurie & Ben to come over for a quick chat and therefore gave us the opportunity to personally congratulate them on their prestigious award. Now we moved onto the cheese course a delightful little combination a Panna Cotta of Blue Murder with Roasted Walnuts , Black Figs , Apple & Celery. This led us onto a delicious palate cleanser of Poire William Sorbet with Poached & Pressed Pear a mixed seed Tuille & Vanilla Cream Cheese. Now it was time for dessert which was a very good Blackberry Baba with Somerset Apple , Brandy Ice Cream & Sorrel. This was paired with a Familia Castano Dulce Monastrell sweet wine with flavours of Plum Jam & Dried Figs which was nice & light and therefore a perfect match. We then finished with a coffee & Petit Fours to end a fantastic lunch. So another fabulous lunch at the Artichoke is brought to and one in which I'm looking forward to repeating again in the near future. It really is worth making the the trip to this great little town of Amersham and enjoy for yourself a fantastic dining experience at this amazing restaurant. Even if you can't make it for lunch you could stay overnight in one of the hotels on the opposite side of the road.
Congratulations once again to all the team at the Artichoke on receiving a Michelin Star

The one thing you don’t expect Spanish food to be is dull, especially when you’ve had a number of positive recommendations about a restaurant. This is a big place with lots of inside seating and a big garden area for warm weather. The decor is light and airy, the service is good but what have they done to make typical Spanish dishes so tasteless? My starter was mushrooms in white wine, which had been cooked ok but had no discernible flavours. Even odder, my paella main was just the right texture but equally bland. My friends were unimpressed with their calamari starter. The only redeeming feature was an entirely unnecessary but very yummy (and big) helping of Tiramisu at the end. Can’t fault the reasonable prices, but I’d rather pay more and have my taste buds challenged not bored. We will probably try this again on the assumption that we just caught it on an off day. But it was notable that for a place renowned for often being packed was almost empty on a Thursday lunchtime.

This retaurant has an extensive menu to cater for all tastes, attentive and efficient staff and a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. My family eat here regularly and the food is of a consistently high standard. There are a range of menus - bar food, plus an extensive range of options for a more formal meal. Everything arrives quickly, pipng hot and well presented. The food is tasty and interesting. Love the steak, the confit duck and the mussels. The pistachio souffle is wonderful. The restaurant is sufficiently large to usually guarantee a seat, although it is worth booking at weekends. There is also a good seating area outside for when the sun shines. The restaurant is attached to an equally pleasant pub area, spacious and well decorated. I thoroughly recommend this place for a great evening out or a light lunch - for couples and families.Dear Rhian,Thank you very much for your kind words about your experiences at The Jolly Farmer. To add to what you say, we have new, seasonal Autumn menus rolling-out this week which has even more choices going into the colder months. You will be glad to hear that the duck, steak and mussels carry over into the new menu, but you must come try the new pheasant dish too!Our service and kitchen teams are delighted to hear that their considerable efforts are appreciated, and we look forward to welcoming you back soon.Regards,Gary WiseAssistant Manager

There was no special occasion or reason for a visit other than wanting to have a good meal. That was exactly what I got, but this time I did challenge Allan to make that pudding he had promised - a thick chocolate ganache without alcohol. More of that in a second. So they apparently keep to the same menu to avoid disappointment to people who have heard that x or y is good and then find it is not on the menu anymore. Well they mentioned a couple of specials and one was the chilli squid dish I had last time - so that was an easy choice for me and it was a) absolutely gorgeous and b) I still don't like the Iranian inspired mayonnaise it comes with as a side accompaniment - at least I am consistent! My wife went for the prawns and melon which she was very pleased with (even more when we were given some to take away at the end of the meal).I had a hard time choosing a main, but after checking the beef lasagne didn't have pork, that is what I decided to have. Nice indeed with a great salad and dressing, but almost too much as I had the anticipation for the pudding and wanted to leave room. I had worried that having lasagne was a bit of a dull choice but the layering of the sheets and ingredients was perfectly level and flat and the pasta sheets had this ort of fluffiness to them that made it different to just being homemade. My wife went for the crab linguini which she raved about while eating, and then raved about all the way home. And so to pudding, where we were taken to the small kitchen and shown the chocolate pudding and given the choice of a red berry compote or sliced oranges. I went for the orange and by heaven, the chocolate was to die for - smooth, thick, and SO much chocolate. The orange cut through it and contrasted really nicely. It was no wonder I bought all the rest of the pudding - after all he had made it just for me (I will let my wife have some, but the rest is mine, all mine). So yet another winning evening of (literally) personal service from a talented chef without the trouble of having to go to London. This really is a place that astonishes the palate and is very recommended by me - just don't be booking when I want to go because it sometimes takes a bit of patience to actually get in.(It is a BYOB for those of you that drink alcohol)
