Stirniu Malunas

Stirnių malūnas is a cozy restaurant outside Vilnius. A bit tricky to arrive, especially if you are not local, but worth doing that. Settled in a former water mill of Stirniai. The building has authentical architectural elements. The whole complex includes restaurant, hotel and the surroundings. Despite of lithuanian architectual herritage, the cuisine is georgian. The menu is quite big and you can make a choice from a big variety of dishes. If you are not acquainted with the cuisine and the names pf dishes, ask a waiter for an advise, they are more than willing to help you with a choice. A must to try after a meal - their carrot cake. It's best I've ever tried! The food preparation takes time, so if you are in a hurry it's not the best place to eat. While waiting for food, you can enjoy the calming nature view, can walk arroind and see the building itself, or simply chill out with relaxing music. Summertime a must to have your meal on the water and enjoy long and warm summer evenings.

The "Pilialaukis" restaurant is situated right beside of the A16 highway from Vilnius to Trakai. The restaurant has a large parking for visitors, easily accessible from highway. It is quite a large restaurant, there are many different rooms and halls that can be reserved for private party, celebration or a meal. Depending on your choice you can take a sit either or the terrace or inside. The staff is polite, informative and helpful and advised on the choice of food. The interior is classic, i would say even kind of "Medieval", but it suits the restaurant and makes it special. i have ordered pork steak with fries and vegetables, and i was very impressed by how tasty was the dish prepared. How well presented it was. I have ordered a bread drink with the food, and it was also very tasty as it was not as sweet as it used to be in other restaurants. It felt like it was a homemade bread drink. I would advise to visit this place even if you wll have to drive from Vilnius. It definitely worth visiting. You can pay by card or cash. Enjoy!Hi Denis,Thank you very much for your kind words. We are working tirelessly to turn Pilialaukis into a great place to come back to and we hope to see you again very soon!- Staff of Pilialaukis

This place offers very affordable Lithuanian cuisine. The place is very nice, looks more like an old Lithuanian house than a tourist place, and the consumers were mostly locals.Nice service, menus translated in English, and they do their possible to communicate in English.I recommend this place instead of the expensive tourist restaurants with a view on the castle.

This restaurant is in a fabulous location right by the Lake and comes complete with its own resident extremely fat and contented cat! The menu is pretty extensive and comes in both English and Lithuanian with good options for both vegetarians and those who like me need gluten free food. I was surprised given the fact that it was mid July how quiet the restaurant was - apart from a large tour group I was the only other person there. I chose the Lithuanian fish stew, which came with small pieces of salmon and something called silver dollar fish which I was not familiar with. It was cooked in a delicious cream sauce with a large serving of rice and came with a large and refreshing local beer, which was just the job. Service was good, the view was wonderful and the bill was reasonable, which is really all you can ask for.

Very traditional and old school restaurant. I goes well with the whole atmosphere of the town. Had a quick lunch before exploring the castle. Servers were very accommodating. Easily conversed in Lithuanian and English. Didn't need to help translate anything to my English speaking partner. Lunch was nice and quick. Simple and traditional.

This was one of the first meals we had in Lithuania. Our guide brought us here because it was out of the way of the "touristy" area (which we wanted) and the restaurant featured classic meals prepared with Karaim recipes that were centuries old. We had a clear dumpling soup with dill and the meat pies. The soup was very light and nice; the meat pies were very filling and I could have just ordered one instead of two because they were packed with meat (one with beef and one with venison). That having been said, I found the meat pies to be rather bland. That's not meant as an insult because I appreciate the classic Karaim recipe that has not changed since before my country was discovered. But for my own personal tastes, I needed a little more flavor (salt, paprika, something!) in my meat pies. If you like foods that are very mild, then this is the place for you. I can't say that I would go back there BUT I am glad that I went because it gave me an appreciation for the traditional Karaim food.

Horrible. I never meet a restaurant which only have one customer and insist that all the tables are reserved and guide you to a table under the sun at the temperature of almost 30 degree. If the staff do not want to work at 1pm. Then just close the shop.

The food is nice here. We tried kibinai, of course (with various stuffings: mutton, pork, chicken, venison, vegetables...), "royal" cabbage soup which is served in a small loaf of home-made bread (which is delicious, by the way) and home-made gira (kvass). This restaurant is quite large and accommodates many people but what I dislike is the fact that it is very crowded and it feels like you are sitting in a barn. The servers do quite a good job though and the service time is decent although we decided not to order the stew because we were informed that it would take an hour to prepare it.
