Where to eat Czech food in Prague: The Best Restaurants and Bars

April 1, 2020 Giuseppe Pratt

Find out what Czech restaurants to try in Prague. The word Prague means “uphill” and yes, the city Prague stands to its name. The amazing views from Prague Castle and the parks in Letná, Petřín and Vinohrady prove this. The hills surround a beautiful medieval center divided by a river in the picturesque Little Quarter and the cobblestone heart of Old Town in the Jewish Quarter. A stone’s throw from Old Town, you can find buzzing shopping in the cultural neighborhood of New Town. Everyone finds what they seek in Prague, and surely falls in love with this city.

The salmon tartare is really interesting because it comes with parmesan cheese on top, a bit of salad on the side (the dressing tasted like mango puree) and slices of bread with pesto. The small salad is equally delicious and the tomato was bursting with flavor and was sweet. The tuna steak was seared and a little raw in the middle, which is the way I like it. Served with ratatouille. Overall, excellent. They've given me some ideas for my next cooking.

After having several very heavy meals of “authentic” Czech food, we were so happy to eat at Sova. The atmosphere is light and bright. The duck liver pate with onion jam, pumpkin soup, duck salad with figs, trout with carrot puree, goulash soup were not only beautifully/artfully presented, but delicious and light as well. The “pear” dessert with mousse was especially lovely. Thanks fellow travelers for recommending Sova to us. I would like to mention that the staff was so accommodating and nice after we arrived on the wrong date. They were able to seat us without making us feel badly in a nice alcove. A+ for service as well as dinner.Dear Arlene,Hello!Thank you for your visit and review! We're glad that you had an enjoyable time with us!Hope to see you again!

This was the most boring multi-course fine dining restaurant we visited throughout our trip in Europe. The veal tartare lacked acidity, salt, and flavor in general while a vegetable side/purée on the meat dish was too acidic and sour. Nothing impressed us throughout the courses and the wine pairings. The experience at this restaurant was not at all worth the price.Dear TLf26,thank you for your review. I´m very sorry to ready your feedback. I can only apologize and promise, that we will do steps with my colleges in kitchen to make sure, that every single dish served has the highest possible quality. 3.5 stars. This is an upscale restaurant. The kitchen is an open concept where the customers can see the chefs cooking. The appetizers were good. God the snails, carp ceviche and the mushroom.Got the tripe dish. It wasn't for me. Definitely get the duck breast. It was about 20 minutes wait from our appetizers to our main course. Price wasn't too bad.

I cannot put into words how fabulous this little restaurant is. I came for my birthday and could not have asked for better. The service was superb, staff had explained where ingredients had been local sourced, had offered great suggestions and knew there product. Friendly & attentive. Restaurant is small but the evening we had been there a great atmosphere. Food was delicious, great size portions and incredible value. Sadly we went on our last evening, if we had found on our first I would not have eaten anywhere else!! Dear Karen, thank you very much for your kind words, we are very proud and pleased that we could contribute to your birthday celebration in any way! Great that you enjoyed our offers and the way we treat our guests. We would be very pleased to welcome you back to our family restaurant again!

Our hotel was around the corner from this place. We walked by at different times of day and there were rarely any people sitting outside and only a few inside. There are 2 parts to this restaurant [fine dining and a pizza takeaway] and if you count the hotel part, three. We decided to give the fine dining part a go and sit outside. The waiter was full of smart remarks and attitude plus he couldn't really care if it was busy or not - his words. I ordered a prawn salad and my friend some pasta [and fries which she never got, as he didn't write it down]. My prawns were so over cooked they were mush, then there were the heads on top, 2 tomatoes and rocket were all there was to this tasteless, overpriced meal with a lemonade. I paid 550Kr and a tip was expected too. My friend's pastas was also tasteless and of a very basic standard, not what is expected of fine dining. Interesting side note - while we sat there a storm came. One table had a group of 4 on it, they were asked to go inside, we were not and all around they cleared the tables. I really felt treated like a tourist. I wouldn't recommend this place at all.Dear guest,We are very sorry to see you had an unpleasant experience in our restaurant. We always try to exceed the expectation of our guests and we wish to create memorable experiences for each and every one of them. Unfortunately, set backs might occur, which can lead to guest satisfaction. We would like to make it up to you, and to change your impression of Smetana Restaurant as soon as possible.
