Old fashioned values, but I hasten to add not an old fashioned store. The assistants always go that little bit further. The gift wrapping service in the toiletries department is wonderful. There are good franchises such as Hobbs,Seasalt and Phase Eight within the store, and roomy comfortable changing rooms. Help and advice is never far away.

Called in to see the vintage train station with our three grandchildren who live nearby in Essex.Really nice and friendly staff all topped off with a cup of tea and juice was a little treat! We just happened to see the last train from Maiden Newton to Bridport train which is where we are from in Dorset. I was on that train on its last trip back in 1974 ! WowGreat place to take a trip to ongar and you get a vintage double decker bus ride back.Brilliant!

Visited here for lunch on Saturday, been several times before and always had a nice lunch. They took our order just fine but then we waited 50 mins for a jacket potato and a bowl of soup. No explanation was given for the delay and they just didn't seem to care. There was a party of about 8-10 adults and children so I guess they were doing theirs first but there only appeared to be one cook in the kitchen. If they had only said that there would be a wait when we ordered it would have been fine as at least we could have made a decision. As it was we were meeting friends at 3pm and so we ended up rushing the food (when it eventually arrived) and were still late. Was just such a shame as previously its been enjoyable and even someone bothering to come and say sorry, or offer an explanation, or a complimentary cup of tea would have made all the difference. Their utter indifference is whats really put us off going backSo sorry, I’ll remind our staff that they should have told you if there is any wait over 20 minutes. As you rightly remark you can make an informed choice. We have only ever had one cook and an assistant, it generally as you would know, a lot quicker and speedier but we do have moments of delay, 50 minutes seems a very long time so I will look into it. Thanks for your custom and for letting us know, sorry for the delay and I hope you feel able to come and see us again another time. September early October is a vulnerable time for mistakes!! We employ A level students at the front of house which is great for their personal development and for us, but each year at this time we have a change as the experienced older students leave to go to university and we start again with younger less experienced staff and it takes a little time for all the questions, protocols, etc to be embedded. Thanks

Paws for Thought Cat Cafe

I came across Paws for thought after trying to book in London for my son's 21st. Could not find anything easy enough to get to, or that had the date free. Add the price and train fares on top I gave up on London.I then googled Hampshire and up popped Romsey. I rang and booked for two of us, an excellent price at £5.00 per person for an hour. The poor reviews on here, say it is expensive. It most certainly is not. We met on arrival by Emma who made us feel welcome, sat us by the window and wished my son a Happy birthday. She discussed the facilities and we had a wander around a beautifully decorated premises. Everything is cat related, cushions, quotes on the wall and some merchandise for sale. The cats were adorable, two were asleep, but were watching us and rolled over, when we passed. They were friendly and did come and visit us. There were mums with a baby, friends catching up, but all clearly cat mad.The pemises are immaculate and toilets very clean. I paid £7.50 for a tea, apple juice and red velvet cake. Quite reasonable compared to nearby chains.I had a chat with various members of staff and found them very helpful.I have visited one other cat cafe and although the cats were well looked after, the premises smelt awful. This was odour free.Come and have a Purrfect hour.

We ordered a pre wedding brunch on Saturday for our wedding party. Mike gave us menu suggestions for finger food and a deli board. The food was imaginative and delicious- salmon with caviar, goats cheese and roasted peppers, avocado and micro cress, watercress and cheese scones, and much more. They even gave us full size pots of cucumber pickle and chilli jam.Everything was ready when we arrived early Saturday morning and was greatly enjoyed. High quality ingredients were used throughout and the portion sizes were generous. I can definitely recommend them.Thank you for sharing this lovely review - we are so pleased our food was enjoyed by your party on such a special day! Thank you again ....
