Lovely food. The tea room is part of a garden centre which also has a small shop mainly selling fresh fruit and vegetables.

Very very dismissive, rude staff..lacking in simple customer service skills. New to didcot and was highly recommended the cafe. I can see alot of regulars go there, maybe you need to be well known to be welcomed into the cafe. We ordered three lunches, big breakfast, tuna panini (with filling only in one part) and a lamb wrap, did not get offered any sauces.. and were made to feel very uncomfortable by the tall waiter who stood staring at us for half the lunch.

Lily's Tea Room

We visited Lily's Tea Room on busy Bank Holiday weekend and loved it. Friendly, helpful service even when busy, delicious sandwiches and scones, and quirky decor with many books and household items from the '50s or thereabouts. Would definitely return if in the area again.

My partner and I have been here several times, over the past few years, as this cafe was once a pleasant place to be. Service has always been a little slow and disorganised, but the good food made up for that. The food and drinks have since decreased in quality and value for money, but the interior is still very nice and so we have been popping in, in the hope that the food had returned to the quality we first experienced. Sadly, it hasn't. We have had several disappointing and inconsistent lunches. One week a strawberry milkshake was lovely and very nicely presented with thick ice cream and syrup on the inside of the glass. The next week it was a lazy Nesquick style milk with a slight strawberry flavour. But was the same price. During our latest visit I ordered a crepe and it was very tough and chewy and tasted unpleasant. I asked my partner to try it, as he used to be a chef. He said it tasted like it has been stored and reheated or simply overcooked. I took the crepe to the counter where the two staff members stared at me with no apology being offered. I returned to my partner and we went to leave. As we approached the door (at the other side of the cafe from where we were sitting) I noticed the manager/owner? abruptly asking another table if they had returned the crepe. I interjected that it was me. My partner had left the cafe at this time, unaware of the events unfolding. The manager positioned himself within my personal space in a way that was quite threatening and curtly asked what the problem was with the crepe. Upon explanation, he snapped that they were definitely made fresh. I said maybe it was overcooked and he replied "maybe it was overcooked for your liking". I'm fairly sure crepes are not comparable to steaks and don't come with a choice of medium-rare or well done. At this point I still haven't had any kind of apology or an offer to remedy the situation. When he finally did, he offered to replace it in a condescending way that made it clear he did not want to, as he believed I was in the wrong. I explained that my partner had left and I would also like to leave and would not be returning. This latest experience was extremely unpleasant and was mishandled in such an aggressive manner, by the manager, that even if we wanted to return to the café, we would never feel comfortable or welcome. Very disappointing end to what was once an enjoyable lunchtime spot.I am really sorry you did not enjoy your recent visit to the shop and as I tried to explain at the time we would have been very happy to remake your ice cream milkshake and crepe to your personal liking. However, you were evidently intent on leaving the shop before we could put things right for you.It is important that readers of this review and response understand the following points. We make all our milkshakes using the finest Roskilly's Cornish ice cream every time. We make every milkshake fresh to order. We have always made our milkshakes this way since the shop opened in May 2016 and receive lots of positive feedback and repeat custom. If the consistency is not to a customer's liking (too thick or too thin) we will always remake the milkshake if the matter is raised with us - the key point being we want our customers to enjoy every visit they make to the shop. Our crepes are made fresh to order as are the rolls, panini, salads etc. Again, if a customer is not satisfied with the result, we will always seek to remake the order to their liking or provide an alternative solution. We really do want our customers to enjoy our menu and every visit they make to the shop.I think the comments you make about our shop & staff are hurtful, and your comments about my personal behaviour are not truthful and probably libellous. I've raised the matter with Trip Advisor but apparently your review is within guidelines. I'm deeply saddened to see social media being used to attack people and a local, well regarded family business in this way.Rob @ R&R
