We went to Symondsbury Kitchen for lunch to celebrate my husbands birthday. The weather wasn't great, so we had a table inside. Our waitress was very pleasant and attentive. All of our meals were beautifully presented and tasted great. My poached eggs came soft as requested (not always the case in other establishments) and the yolks, a deep orange colour. The ham looked freshly cut from the bone . The salads my daughter and husband had were so colourful and delicious. Well done to all staff concerned, another great experience, Thank you.Thank you for taking the time to leave us such a positive review, we are very lucky to have such a great team working at Symondsbury Kitchen and I will make sure I pass on your positive comments to them. The eggs come from our own chickens so the freshest you can get! We are glad you had a good time celebrating your husbands birthday and hopefully we can welcome you back soon.

Yesterday 19th September I visited the Hive Cafe in Burton Bradstock and had an amazing meal. Today 20th September I visited the “sister cafe” the The Watch House at West Bay and there was no comparison at all!I asked about the special pizza and was informed it had “everything on it” meats, anchovies, peppers, fish and many other items. When it arrived freshly made, it had hardly any tomatoes base paste, cheese, black mushrooms, olives, artichoke hearts, both of which I seriously dislike! Parma ham and rocket.Having dumped the olives and artichoke, the only thing I could then taste was the mushrooms! When I commented on how disappointed I was when payment time came, I got a weak apology but I felt they were not really interested.Others have really enjoyed there pizza, may be it was made by someone who cared! Because mine was not!

Enjoyed our visit to this nice cafe overall. The sandwiches with crisps and coleslaw were good value for money. I was disappointed that the macaroni cheese didn’t come with any accompaniments - this was the only vegetarian choice on the ‘hot meal’ section of the menu and all of the meat/fish choices came with chips. I felt a bit aggrieved on behalf of vegetarians that we had to purchase chips separately. Although the macaroni was nice, it wasn’t great value for money at nearly £9, with not even a salad to go with it. Pasta is one of the cheapest ingredients to buy, so it was a shame this dish didn’t include a small side accompaniment. It was also quite warm in the cafe, but we did visit on a hot day. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere of the cafe was pleasant. We would return if in Charmouth again.

We dropped in here for a cup of tea and although it is not the easiest place to find it’s worth persevering. Tucked away on a narrow lane there is no inside seating although some is under cover. We ordered a slice of cake each (Dorset apple cake and fruit cake) which were the most enormous hunks of cake I’ve ever seen! My fruit cake was the best fruit cake I’ve ever had! Friendly staff too and information on each table about how the cafe started and where their ingredients come from (mostly their own farm) which was nice to know. Highly recommended.

In an attempt to round out my list of cafes in the Bridport and west Bay Area I finally gave this place a try. It caters for the coach party audience quite well, which I suppose makes sense given it’s location. I’m pretty sure it was packed with the occupants of the Shearing’s coach outside when I visited - it was packed.Nothing wrong with the sandwich - but I could make similar myself. It’s a tea room that wouldn’t be out of place in the 80s and 90s as the menu would be the same. Nothing wrong with that either but I’m a bit of a snob these days.So - if you want something ‘home made’ on a wet day in West Bay, you could do worse. But you could also do better.

We both stopped in for a breakfast. I had a full English, which consisted of a fried egg, bacon, sausage mushrooms, tomatoes, beans, black pudding and toast. I also had a lovely cappuccino. The breakfast was £8.99 but well worth every penny as it was all cooked to perfection and using fresh local ingredients. Lavazza coffee is used in the cappuccino, delicious. Amazingly friendly people run this place and dogs are allowed with well behaved owners. Will definitely be back.
