We came for a lunch out for Father’s Day and we were amazed by how nice the food is. We tried the ham hock( large with amazing amounts of flavour) as well as lamb and beef roast. Booked a table for four including one child. Having never been before we had no idea what the set up was with tables but had heard food was good. Upon arrival we were given a table for four in the bar area. Baring in mind we had booked for 5 o'clock they were not busy in the other parts of the pub. We asked twice if we cld move but were told "No, because other people were coming." Was told you have to request where to sit when you book. How could you possibly know if you have never been before. Why don't they ask when you book? The reason we wanted to move was because the small bar area was taken up with lots of men having a drink, which we weren't expecting to eat amongst, and we felt uncomfortable espescially with our young son because of the language he was hearing. By the time we left, which was just after 7pm, only one table had been occupied in the 'restuarant' area so we cld have been moved. Food was nothing to shout about either. Seafood paella was stodgy with hardly any seafood. Steak calzone was lacking steak, chicken burger, apparently marinated in their special sauce, was non existent. Lighting could be just a bit brighter to see what you're eating. Definately not a child friendly place. There are a couple of much better eateries nearby to cater for famalies with much better food.Thank you for your review. We're very sorry to hear you had a negative experience and your comments are being considered by management. We do not have a policy that requires customers to choose where they will sit at the time of booking; apologies you should have been offered another table in these circumstances. We have taken your comments about your meals on board and have made some recent improvements. Our food is made freshly on the premises and we have received some wonderful feedback over the years on our menu. We'd like to invite you and your guests back to visit us again to have a real Elcurioso experience, with a meal on us.

Venue was quiet, clean and had a subtle character. The venue had music but it was not overbearing which allowed conversation.Staff were polite, friendly and attentive but importantly did not rush us.Visited Waltham Abbey as it was where my father was brought up.Me and my father both had the 3 cheese lasagne which was very hot and of a generous proportion. Both portions came with a large portion of salad and 2 slices of Italian bread. The lasagne was obviously freshly made.Price was very reasonable at £9 a plate. Also price for all the other dishes on the menu were reasonable too.Did not have dessert as our meal was more than filling enough. The only downside is that unless there was a separate dessert menu I could see no option except under the children's' menu but this could also mean I did not look hard enough.Thank you very much for your lovely comments, all of our food is homemade and freshly prepared daily so thank you for noticing. We do have a dessert menu which is available on request, I am sorry that this was not offered. Once again thank you for your lovely review and look forward to welcoming you back soon :)

We were a party of five and when we arrived, we were shown to table 13/1 which is a round table located in the corner of the front dining area and is very comfortable for parties of 5/6 adults. Our server, Carmela was very prompt in taking our drinks and food orders and also in serving them up shortly after. Most of us ordered the sirloin steaks for our mains which were very tasty and cooked to order. We all had a great evening as we normally do in this place as we find this restaurant very relaxing and comfortable and will certainly return again in the near future.Another fab review from you Alan :) such great news to hear that we was able to provide outstanding service again :) see you again soon :)

We were greeted at the door on Weds evening by a very smiley waitress who suggested a table by the fire as it was such a chilly night! Lovely personal service and a good selection of flavoured ciders. Had a tasty, hot meal (fish & chips and steak & kidney pudding) and decided to share a dessert. Our waitress (didn't catch her name, was unusual, sorry) was really good fun and was happy to suggest a couple of her favourite desserts. We took her advice and had the profiteroles which were delicious. We do like McMullens pubs, and this one was no exception. We look forward to coming back on a warmer day.Thank you Jon. Glad you had a great experience here at the Plough. Your feedback will be passed on to the team. Hope to see you again soon.Regards Charlotte

We arrived on a very busy night and was greeted by a friendly, efficient young lady who seated us straight away. As it was our first visit we first noticed the unique decor which created a lovely non intrusive atmosphere. Our waitress was clearly busy but she was still very attentive and our meals and drinks arrived quickly. We really enjoyed the whole experience and will definitely visit again when we’re in the area. Thank you Marvellousmarie2016 for your 5 star review and such kind words. We are very happy to hear you enjoyed your visit with us and hope to see you again soon.Kind regardsChrissy

Came here with my friend for lunch. We both had the ploughman’s platter which was excellent value for money- very generous portions - all for £12.00. The food was fresh and delicious and there was an extensive menu. The staff were friendly , efficient and helpful. The pub is set in a beautiful location and the pub itself is gorgeous. We took the dog and was able to sit comfortably in the front garden with the other dog owners. Not sure if the pub wants to attract dog walkers but my only slight complaint- it would have been nice to have some bowls of water for the dogs but this was not really a problem. I do hope to go back to try one of the other dishes - everything I saw coming out looked delicious.Hi thanks for your lovely review. Really glad you enjoyed it! Sorry you didn’t see any dog bowls, we do normally have a couple scattered around but they may have been taken to the back garden! Don’t be afraid to ask, we will always go and look for one for you!! Hope to see you again!

This is a nice, warm and friendly traditional pub that still offers a reasonably priced lunch and evening meal menu where the various dishes are cooked to order and always served up hot and fresh. We visit this place whenever we are in the area and can highly recommend it to everybody. You will not be disappointed.

We had a table at 3:30 pm for 5 adults on a Sunday and found this to be a non crowded relaxed time before the early evening bustle began. The service was not rushed and this gave us plenty of time to review the menu and chat. Starters are quite large so if you fancy a desert you may want to share. I had a dressed crab which would easily have been enough for 2 people and I only just about managed to squeeze in half a delicious homemade cheesecake ( I didn't ask who's home). My main of Chicken Milanese was crispy, tasty and light. Excluding service we paid about £25 per person. For that all 5 had mains, only one person had a glass of alcohol with the rest having soft drinks, 2 did not have starters and there was just one pudding.
